Just finished watching Star Wars Rogue One and OH MY GOD IT WAS SO COOL!
First off, HOW DARE this movie make me fall in love with these characters only to kill them all! Like, I knew it was gonna happen, the tragedy of Rogue One was literally the ONLY thing I knew about it, but I wasn't expecting to FEEEL.
K-2 was the sassiest droid and his sacrifice will forever haunt me. We saw so little of him, but he was the cutest murder droid ever.
Bodhi was such an MVP. They would have gotten got SOO many times without him. He got the redemption he craved the moment he delivered that title drop.
The bromance (romance? Platonic bond so deep there's no word that could truly describe it?) between Baze and Chirrut was a welcome brevity to the tension and trepidation throughout the film. Chirrut following the Force so wholly, and it all lead him to that ONE moment. And I KNEW what was gonna happen next, and I'm pretty sure he knew too, but without that, the whole operation would have ended right there. And the way Baze went down in a blaze of glory but his only focus was on Chirrut 😭
(You may think I'm over exaggerating, but I'm am LITERALLY CRYING just thinking about it. That emoji was but a small FRACTION of the feelings I'm feeling right now.)
I wanna rant about Cassian so bad but we'd be here ALL DAY. He had a whole two season she dedicated to his growth and character arc (and MAN does Andor provide so much context to his actions and a better understanding on the viewers part about what he may be thinking about when he does everything that he does) but WOW. That force healer was right. He was a messanger, and Rogue One was the most important message he'd ever delivered.
I wish we could have gotten more of Jyn, but she was such a good character. She was a woman on a mission and I love how her entire family took the time outta their deaths to deliver this ominous prophecy of failure and doom to Krennic. For her mom, then Galen, and finally Jyn herself. But it was the truth. From the moment Lyra uttered those words, the Empire had already lost. Galen made the bomb, Jyn handed off the match, and the Rebellion lit the fuse.
All the small references to other series and characters who WOULD have been running around at this time in the lore. Don't think I missed that call for my girl Hera on Yavin! Bail telling Mon that he's gonna send Leia to go get Obi Wan, and that being the reason why she wasn't on Alderaan AND in position to receive the plans. And the fact that Bail was only on Alderaan to warn his people, so he literally died because he actually cared for his constituents.
Cassian's throw away line of "rebellions are built on hope" unironically becoming the emotional core of the whole flipppin' movie AND the throughline INTO A New Hope.
And the only reason why Cassin can even say such a cheesy line in the first place is because he's SEEN IT. He knows exactly how much power a single spark of hope can have. We saw him encounter so many different flickers of hope throughout Andor, and then he passes that small spark to Jyn, who then gives it to the faltering rebels, who THEN give their lives to ensure that the HOPE that is the Death Star plans make it to Leia, and ALL OF THIS paving the way to the rebellion's new hope in A New Hope in the form of one Luke Skywalker.
The way that they were able to tie the beginning directly into the end of Andor Season 2 and the end of Rouge One lead RIGHT into the beginning of a New Hope! 😖 I wanna screech like a banshee, it was SO COOL!!!!
I HAVE ASCENDED!!!! I'M NEVER COMING DOWN!!!
