i got the urge to draw oola because recently i ✨finessed✨ a star wars character encyclopedia from my work and oola’s page was particularly upsetting. it’s just… tragic. like, she’s stolen from her home on ryloth by bib fortuna, forced to dance for jabba and evade his advancements, which (as we all know) ultimately leads to her untimely death to the rancor. her life is compounded by grief and fear. 

i wish her character had more. oola deserves more. i wonder what her dreams were, what aspirations she had, her favorite color. i want to ask her if dancing was an escape or if it exacerbated the wound. i’d like to grab her hand, tell her “it’s okay now. it’s okay”, and then lead her to a place where she can run free, with wildflowers and buffalo grass beneath her feet. she’ll never have to see sand again.
