Smell is the strongest trigger for memories and feelings because the olfactory bulb (smelling center) is so close to the amygdala (the base emotional part of the brain) and then we associate that smell with a person, event, place, or memory. When we smell it again, the brain already has that tie there and then triggers a feeling or memory. It’s pretty cool.
