A note on America.
Hey, shapeshifters. We interrupt your Queue & A today to bring you an important message:
We are still here.
And so are you.
And so will you be, and so will we be, in three weeks, when this election is over.
That’s what this is about, by the way. Our fuckaninny government is trying to turn the American midterm election into a referendum on trans people, because they want that sweet, sweet transphobic centrist vote. They will always try to separate out and break us. This particular parliament of assholes has been making us a flashpoint since 2015 and they are not gonna stop.
And when some trans folks have to hide, have to go stealth or re-closet: we will still be here. And when things are better, and we come out again: we will. Still. Be here.
To be queer means, sometimes, to endure. Shapeshifters got its start in a very different climate, when proclaiming yourself loudly and with glitter scales and bright colors felt awesome.
Right now, to more and more people, it just feels risky.
We’re here. We will still make you binders that fit, in every skin tone and every color of the rainbow; we will keep on making sports bras that feel good and dresses that break boundaries. We will make leggings and skirts and swim tops and god knows what else; we will work our damn asses off to stay afloat in a country that wants us to drown.
Fight when you can, duck when you have to. We’re doing the same.
