Guests are talked through the vodka range and history and offered a one to one guided masterclass. They'll have the chance to make their own cocktail in Opium's Academy from our limited edition on the night menu ably guided by one of our esteemed bar team but there’s a catch; they must sing a karaoke song first. The Chinese love affair with karaoke is well known, however it’s the first time Opium’s Bartender’s Table has been used for a wild night of karaoke and cocktails! An debauched evening of singing for your supper – or rather for your cocktail – in Opium’s infamous Academy. Guests will be sent a CD of their song after the event!

A Stoli Indulgence Tasting Session with Matt Dakers. The Stoli Indulgence range, newly launched in the UK, is a luxuriously decadent vodka range with flavours like Salted Karamel and Chocolat Razberi. Like some kind of sweet toothed – Willy Wonka’s chocolate-factory-set-in-a-bar fantasy, this event talks you through the history of the vodka and flavours followed by a made – in-heaven taste matching session. Taste all kinds of tempting treats; chocolate fountains, fruits and fondue foods alongside the vodkas. The session will be held at the Bartender’s Table, in the Academy.  A beautifully sweet night out!

New Years Eve

NEW YEARS EVE  Our New Years Eve celebration will be an intimate affair, cocktails with friends and loved ones in our relaxed, speakeasy - style surroundings. Be social at the Bartender's Table, or hire our private room (with own music system) and party the night away in seclusion! At Opium we're hosting a proper, grown up night out; fabulous cocktails, shared dim sum dining and good conversation combined with the warm, inviting atmosphere you've come to expect from Opium. A selection of bespoke cocktails will be available for the occasion. As midnight approaches, music will be played, Chinese drinking rituals and toast will be made.         Christmas, we love you. Areas for hire at Opium:                    

The Den

A private room that holds sit down banquets for 25 or stand up affairs for up to 35 people. The Den comes with a Narnia-esque wardrobe for guest’s coats and bags and has its own music system.

The Apothecary Bar & Lounge

Liquids served in the Apothecary Bar are dispensed from Chinese Medicine bottles. The area has a mix of lounge seating and a small dining area. The Apothecary Bar works beautifully for stand up parties for up to 60 guests and has an area for a DJ.

The Attic

A chic parlour – style room reminiscent of a bygone era, The Attic includes a table for 10 that can be made into a private space by drawing the heavy velvet curtains. Holds up to 40 standing. 

The Academy

High in The Attic sits the Academy, a open-plan kitchen where a huge table acts as the bar and drinks are served from cabinets. The Attic has the relaxed, sociable feel of a very good house party, albeit one with an amazing bar! Holds up to 35 standing.

The Second Floor, Third Floor or whole venue

Take over a floor or the whole venue for a party for a really special night out and enjoy the unique space, different rooms and chic design that Opium has to offer. A Chinatown hideaway that will delight and surprise even the most hard - to please crowd!

Christmas at Opium Chinatown

         Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour is a speakeasy-style bar set behind a Jade Door in the heart of Chinatown. At Opium we are passionate about our drinks and creating an amazing experience for everyone who visits us. Opium was recently shortlisted for the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars 2013.

Sprawling over two floors of a historical Chinatown townhouse, with nine distinct rooms, Opium is a cornucopia of drinking and dining spaces: lounge seating, intimate, boudoir-drinking-dens and open-plan bars.

     We hold events and parties from 10 to 150 guests, from small private room to whole venue hire.

      Hire by the area, the room or the floor.

      We don’t set hire or booking fees.

      Our minimum spends vary depending on the day of the week and the time of year.

Halloween Menu all at £10

That Halloween Menu in full...

         Corpse reviver

An enlivening mixture of Plymouth Gin, Lillet Blanc, Blue Curacao, Lemon Juice and Pernod Absinthe sure to reawaken the dead. Warning, 2 of these taken in quick succession will quickly unrevive the corpse.

Release the hellhounds

One for Cerberus himself, this long and devilish drink combines Bols Genever, Pink grapefruit juice, 5 spice syrup and a salt and peppered rim.

Blade of the blood and samurai

Feel the steel of the Chinese terracotta warriors of ancient times with Chivas Regal 12 year old whisky, Cherry Heering, Martini Rosso vermouth and Blood Orange juice, shaken and topped with Schizandra bitters.

Bloody Chinatown massacre

One of these and you’ll certainly feel your lifeblood slipping through your veins. Absolut vodka, blood orange juice, tomato juice, lemon juice, Pedro Ximenez sherry and enough hot chilli sauce to slay beezlebub himself. Caution: served spicy!

Zombie apocalypse

If there’s one drink that could keep your senses happily dull and merry during the impending zombie apocalypse it would be this one. A mix of 6 different rums from all over the Caribbean, together with grapefruit juice, blood orange puree, cinnamon syrup and lime juice, shaken and served green. One of these and you might be needing a corpse reviver after.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Inspired by the voodoo isles comes this enchanting potion of Remy Martin VSOP cognac, Trois Rivieres Rhum Agricole, Amer picon and creole style bitters. Sure to give you the power to cast a hex on all of your wrongdoers.

On Wednesday The Rising Sun Club and Bols Genever present an evening of Kopstootje, an age old Dutch traditional drinking ritual involving Dutch Ale and Bols Genever.  A photographer will be on hand taking old school photobooth style photos. 

Bols, the earliest of Gins and pre dating Gin for its use of botanicals, is served in a tulip shaped glass and must be sipped by moving your head towards the glass and drinking - to lift the glass is not the done thing. Interspersing slurps of Bols with Dutch Ale is the correct way to drink. Kopstootje means 'little headbut' in Dutch.

This is The Apothecary Bar, The Tea Parlour and The Den which make up Opium's Second Floor. This floor can be hired for Christmas Parties and Events. Halloween Night at Opium

Halloween is shortly upon us. Opium is creating a devilishly bespoke cocktail (shocktail) menu that will be available throughout the week of Halloween, inspired by Chinese Ghost Stories and things that go bump in the night. We're also throwing a frighteningly good party on Halloween night Thursday 31st. More details will follow. Be afraid.

Talk & Tasting: Bols Genever

        This month, our unique series of drinks events continues with two evenings hosted by one of the world's oldest spirits, Bols Genever. On Thursday the 17th October, a talk and tasting session which looks into the heritage of Genever, and offers a tasting of the spirit matched with Dutch cheeses and ale. Join the club to attend by emailing [email protected]. It's free and you'll have access to unique drinks events and classes. Places are limited and priority will be given to existing club members.

On the 30th October, Bols Genever hosts a traditional Dutch evening of Kopstootje with a mobile Photobooth, Genever and dutch beers. This event is open to all.

London Cocktail Week Competition

        Over the next couple of days, Rémy Martin are offering delicious cocktails, masterclasses and talks at Opium as part of London Cocktail Week. As well as this, Rémy Martin have arranged for rickshaws to drive customers from Bolangaro in Covent Garden to Opium. This we're very excited about. If you're out and about and see a rickshaw, take a snap and tweet with the hashtag #RemyLCW to win dinner and drinks at Opium this Saturday.
