(12/20/24 Edit) Just wanting to clarify that I got no fucking idea whether I'd be considered "in the process of converting" or not, but that'd be difficult to fit into a url. I've been running around in circles trying to find a community and intro course, but it's been pretty hard, so I'm stuck. I promise I'm doing as much as I can I'm just in a tough place right now.

I've been curious about everything jewish going back YEARS, but it wasn't until November after attending my first erev shabbat service that I decided to plunge into the unknown and pursue conversion. I've created this side blog because I want a safe space away from my other blogs to be nosy as hell, make embarrassing pronunciation errors, etc. etc.

So quick question: I know one of the "rules" of Judaism is to believe in one god, not multiple gods, but are we using the word believe in its original meaning (agreeing with something or thinking it is real) or is believe being used to mean worship?

For example let's say I have a friend who's pagan and worships multiple gods. I'm definitely not worshipping my friends gods per say, but I'm not sure if I have the confidence to fully come out and declare that my friends gods are made up because there's only one which is the guy I'm vibing with. I'm not an authority on that, so I can't say for sure how many gods there are or if there even are gods at all.

Basically to make a long story short my view on the matter is "you have your god(s), I have mine". Would that go against jewish teachings or no? Is this one of the topics that the community is split on?

Why is it your business to comment on it in the first place? Why be concerned with other people's practices and faiths? Why does it matter if their gods exist or not so long as no one is being hurt?

we're not Christians. we have no interest in converting others. Jewish law is for Jews.

there are a handful of rules that apply to all mankind eg. no murder -- mostly, it's not our business.

we are, however, supposed to have positive relationships with our neighbours. you should show respect to your pagan friend. simply keep a clear boundary: I will not show any honor to your gods and I would prefer not to be in your place of worship. but that's it.

I must've worded my question poorly because both of you are misunderstanding me by a long shot.

Just to get it out of the way: the pagan friend does not exist, I made them up as an example so that people might get a better idea of what exactly I was asking about (it's why I used "let's say")

"Rule" was probably not the right word to use on my part but I'm not suggesting in any way that I would like to convert others who believe differently, the point of my question is that I'd really rather NOT have any thoughts on who/what other people worship, but I was worried that it might be seen as blasphemous or something because lots of other religions are infamous for having a "my way or the highway" attitude.

This is all just one big misunderstanding but the point is that no, I do not have any strong opinions on other religions, if anything I believe in the possibility of multiple religions being "right" about things. I just wanted to know if that was an unpopular opinion or not before I went and blabbed about it and potentially pissed some people off.

Now it's looking like conversion may be impossible for me because taking the intro class, which is the only way to get my foot in the door, requires bringing a Jewish person to attend it with you, like a friend or family member. I do not have any Jewish friends or family members. There is no way I'm gonna be able to acquire a Jewish friend or family member in time to start the class (Or at all really).

Is there anything else I can do or am I just fucked?

So bad news, the conservative synagogue I was gonna check out appears to have been abandoned for a while now, so I got over my crippling fear of new people for nothing.

Good news, the reform synagogue I was attending in the beginning has an intro class starting around now and I had the confidence to send over an email asking about it so I'm one step closer to beginning my conversion!

My ITJ classes are set up so that each week, a different rabbi speaks and lectures.

One of the rabbis talked about how they don't gender g-d with He/Him like everyone else does. They just say g-d, or even g-dself when referring to g-d. And they encouraged us to explore our relationship with g-d, and to not thoughtlessly He/Him g-d just because it's a convention

Anyway, I still He/Him g-d, but I've realized that to me, it's more like g-d is a He/Him woman or feminine than a He/Him man. Ariana Grande was right, I think

Watching the anti-zionist crowd be more and more insane is so weird to me because I'm sitting at the side going "What the fuck are they thinking" when I literally know what they're thinking because I used to be One Of Them until I got my braincells back. I'm still upset that I'm being so quiet about my intentions to convert irl because I'm worried about what would happen if I failed to keep my mouth shut. What if my friends call me a genocidal zio and end up hating me because they think I wanna kill babies? What if the people already harassing me on a weekly basis find out and start being antisemitic towards me too? I shouldn't have to be afraid of this shit I hate the world sometimes.

I doubt that anyone is staying up at night wondering if I'm good because I seem to be a bit off my rocker sometimes, but if there is then I'm just dropping in real quick to let yall know that you're right and I am off my rocker, specifically with a cluster c personality disorder (the anxious/fearful disorders), and now that I'm aware of it the symptoms are becoming easier to manage and now it's not blocking my path to conversion like it originally was. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm alright 👍

So the video was part of multiple chains of the person video replying to people about palestine and the comment on the soecific videk was someone bringing up the hostages and they responded "where did you get your information from? The Israeli controlled media? Oct 7th was fabricated. No hostages were taken, it was Israel who took Palestinian hostage" and in later videos called the war a second holocaust.
