Being a senior in high school, I was able to choose a quote to put next to my picture in the year book. I remember looking through all the quotes on the computer searching for one that really stood out. Once I saw this one I knew it was perfect, it defined me.
I’ve always been myself. I never changed for anyone. Whether that’s a good thing or not, it’s who I am. I’ve lost many friends for being myself, but at the same time I’ve made some very good friends who understand me, some I hope to remain friends with for the rest of my life.
People need to be themselves and it pains me to have to say this. Insecurity, lack of confidence, the fear of being rejected . . . . those feelings need to pushed aside. You have a right to be yourself and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. If someone hurts you, says something mean to you, or expects you to be someone you’re not, you’re too good for them. Don’t change, be yourself and move one. Believe me, there are better people out there waiting to get to know you.
I’m not the most confident person, I have insecurities just like everyone else, but I never let them get in the way of being myself.
Don’t change for anyone, they’re not worth it.
When I look back in my year book in the future, I want to remember myself not anyone else. My own ideas, thoughts, emotions, actions, I want to see me.
