There’s only one more week of class - it’s surreal. Where has the time gone?
This semester has been fine. I haven’t exactly done my absolute best, but it’s much, much better than before. I haven’t felt completely overwhelmed, and I haven’t gotten caught up in any miserable thoughts. I’m thinking I’ll be getting B’s all around this semester.
Looking for internships has been tough. I’ve made it through several stages of the hiring process for a company in Houston, but they haven’t reached out to schedule the third interview yet. But now I have a couple of phone interviews lined up for internships in Austin, and I hope those go well, since I’d much rather stay in Austin.
It’s been a couple of months since I’ve smoked. I figured I’d wait until August before I start again (if I get hired at the Houston company, anyway). It hasn’t been terrible or anything, but having dreams again is starting to annoy me. I’d rather just fall asleep and wake up with nothing in between.
I hung out with Uriel’s work friend group without him today, and I had a good time! I was kind of nervous at first since that group feels so established already, and I was going without my main connect to the group.. But it was fun; we got ramen and watched Your Name, which was so good (srsly check it out if you haven’t already, the animation is amazing). I originally planned to just get dinner with a couple of the girls, but I’m glad the night went the way it did.
Making friends is so nerve-wracking and honestly, difficult. It feels like dating, almost.
1. I got an A on one of my tests. It's been a while since that's happened. :') Oh, I'm back in school now, by the way. This is my first semester back after nearly 1.5 years, and I'm happy to say that I feel like I'm moving in the right direction now. One step at a time.
2. I greatly underestimated how difficult it would be for me to find a part-time job that isn't in the food industry again. My class schedule is a little hard to work with for the positions I want. (Plus, my interview skills have completely gone down the drain.) I'm probably going to have to be less picky about the positions I apply for if I don't get a job soon. 🙃
Who’s the real you? The person who did something awful, or the one who’s horrified by the awful thing you did? Is one part of you allowed to forgive the other?
I haven’t posted anything in such a long time, but I suppose a new year warrants a new post.
It’s a week into 2017, and it hasn’t started out all that great for me. On the 1st, I locked my wallet and keys in the car. Thankfully, one of my roommates happened to be in town so she was able to open the apartment door for me, and thankfully, I had left one of my spare keys at Uriel’s apartment so he was able to come save me after work. Then, Uriel got the flu, which led to me getting sick. And I’m still sick. So, not great.
2016 hasn’t been awful for me; on the contrary, it’s actually been pretty good to me. I withdrew from school, which was my main source of misery. I got a new job I actually really like with people I get along with well enough. My parents have stopped nagging at me so much, so I don’t feel so much dread whenever I have to talk to them or see them. Being financially independent hasn’t been too hard on me at all. My boyfriend and I are still doing well. I got 2 kittens whom Boots quickly accepted and get along with for the most part. Overall, quite a few good things.
But! New year, new me, right??
Last year I made a post with a list of my resolutions, and I don’t think I stuck with a single one of them. Hopefully this year will be different, ha^ha^^ha…..
1. Save. More. Money. Up that monthly deposit into my savings account, buy more groceries and eat out less, try to make some type of budget. Anything!
2. Become more flexible. Stretch every damn day. I want to start doing yoga and whatnot, dammit.
3. Work out on a fairly regular basis. Even if it's just a jog around the apartment complex 2-3 times a week or starting with a small amount of push-ups and sit-ups and increasing the amount every few days. Just do /something/. (I would love to become flexible and strong enough to try out aerial arts, so that is my real goal here.)
4. Control my emotions better and communicate effectively when I do argue with Uriel. At work, I'm praised for my self-regulation when training dogs, but when I argue with my boyfriend, all of my self-regulation goes straight out the window. Basically stop becoming such a goddamn psycho and chill the fuck out when I fight with Uriel, ahahah.
5. Find another hobby! I've realized that I don't really have any hobbies I enjoy a lot. And Netflix doesn't count. Gaming? Meh. Reading? I've half-heartedly tried, but I should try to get back into that again. (Maybe I should make it a goal to read a book a month!)
6. Find another volunteer opportunity to try out. This last year, I volunteered at APA!’s nursery, where I bottle/syringe-fed kittens for 3 hours every week from May to November. It was a rewarding experience, though frustrating at times. There were honestly times when I would be trying to feed an especially stubborn kitten and would want to quit and say, “If you don’t want to eat, then fine! Don’t!” But of course I couldn’t do that, and I just had to keep going until the kitten gained enough weight. It helped me practice patience, and I got two of the sweetest, most adorable kittens out of it. :’) I already have an idea for my next volunteering venture; I’m going to try out volunteering on a local farm! I found one that will give you a share of vegetables after your 5-hour shift, and I figure it would be a test to see whether or not I could actually participate in WWOOF someday.
7. Figure out what it is I want out of life. Figure out when I’m going to finish my degree, what I want to do as a career. Recently, I’ve been thinking about learning more about training dogs; perhaps I want to become a training consultant at Taurus and then move on to working under a private trainer. Maybe I would like to start my own training business. It’s a thought in process. Basically, think about the tough stuff I’ve been putting off.
Aaaand that’s it for now. There’s so many other things I could put as goals, but I already know it’ll be hard enough for me to keep up with these 7. I hope this year brings lots of good things for everyone!
