Yuzu Kato: Borrowing from the Tiger's Majesty (2022)
rest in peace to all the ideas i didn't write down because "it's not like im going to forget it"
i do not “delete sentences” when they start “hindering the plot” i COPY PASTE THEM into a SEPARATE DOC made just for keeping all my USELESS LINES that i will also NEVER USE so therefore i should JUST DELETE THEM but i DONT because id FEEL BAD if i did
The bigger the issue, the smaller you write.
You don't write about the horrors of war. You write about a kid's burnt socks lying in a pile of rubble.
You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.
Side characters show depth by disagreeing with your main character.
Allies can want the same goal for different reasons.
Friends can be supportive while still refusing to go along with the MCs bad ideas.
Lovers can beg the MC to stay home where it's safe instead of doing the heroic thing.
Don't surround your MC with yes-men. Agreements and arguments mixed together will make your side characters feel more real.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
If you're stuck on the first sentence of your story or on how to start a new scene/chapter, give yourself permission to write a "bad sentence".
You just need something on the page so it's no longer blank and intimidating. The first sentence should not block you from reaching the rest of the story. You can write, 'She walked into the room.' Or 'He woke up on the first day on school.'
Too plain? Basic? Cliche? Who cares! Leave a comment to your future editing self to rework it.
On a first draft, all the first sentence needs to do it propel you as the author into writing the next one, and the next one after that.
poets will write like "he was the light and i was the moth" and i’ll be clapping. cheering. crying. giving them a little medal. what do you MEAN it’s just one line??????
writing tip #4043:
yknow you should really start that second book project. yeah i know you haven’t finished even a quarter of the first one but you’re strong and you can manage
Chat how do I get used to a character's name after I've change it. I keep calling them by their old name because I've used it for so long and I feel a bit disconnected from them bc of that
Kill me once, shame on you. Kill me twice, how did you did that.
Jus wondering
What colors do u think describe ur series???
this is a great question thank you!!
(also i might be slightly dumb but i’m assuming by series you mean my three books?)
i always see the twelve blessings (1) as a sort of soft hazy pink, like the sky when the sun just starts to set over the horizon. mixed with a little blue and a warm orange as well
the twelve curses (2) is purple, when the sky has sunk deeper into twilight, with a silver sheen where the stars have just started to shine.
the thirteenth star (3) is blue, as if you’re looking up at a dark sky through heavy mist. it’s a cold and foreboding colour, the kind that makes you think the sun will never rise again.
^^ i don’t know how much sense these make, but the point is blessings is sunset colours, curses is twilight when it starts to get darker, and star finishes the descent into night. it mirrors parker’s journey of starting out bright and hopeful before sinking and succumbing to a darkness it doesn’t feel possible to escape from
hopefully i interpreted this question correctly but if i didn’t let me know. i’d also love to hear your answer for your writing? :)
westley in the princess bride was so funny for being like ‘talk about this dead guy you loved lol’ and getting the tea about himself
oh he was ur true love? you thought he was hot n strong? rate him 1-10 and why
When Rumi said 'Why couldn't you love me?!'
And Celine said 'I do'
And Rumi said 'ALL OF ME'
I felt that, you felt that, your neighbor felt that
And this is part of why K-pop Demon Hunters is so healing: it is recognizing that someone saying 'I tried' or 'I made a promise' isn't enough if they don't accept you fully and it doesn't matter who they are in your life. You deserve love that is freely given and accepts all of your complexities
honey, if I wasn't the type of person who likes to keep things as memories, you would find me in the backyard burying that first draft with a shovel.
behold! it's Isi! friend of dragons, overthrower of kings, and thrower of swords 💙
art is by the wonderful @codenameyan !!
also a poem from the new, unreleased collection. very possibly my own all-time favourite.
I hope you know if I ever say “ah!” or any variation thereof, I’m saying it like Preminger from Barbie Princess and the Pauper
