Oh man, I went on the second night...that show played with expectations and reality so well. All I can say is that it was dramatic, funny and fantastically dark! Shame there aren’t any photos from the second half...though I guess they’d be full of spoilers.

Also I never could have imagined that meeting my actual hero would involve him handcuffing me to a box. It actually ended up taking him three tries to close that cuff tight enough round my wrist - every time he thought he had it, I’d apologetically show him I could still slip out and hilarity ensued. Best night ever!

Fictional mission / Space That Never Was / Alternate timeline

Ambition 2 / Mars-Phobos

In the mid 80s, international cooperation between USSR, USA, Japan and a few European countries resulted in a follow-up to successful Ambition 1 mission from a few years earlier. This time the goal was to visit and explore one of Mars moons, Phobos, in hope to find a suitable place for a permanent base on its surface, which would be built by the crew of Ambition 3, mission that would launch in late 1980s.

Mass Effect au where instead of the Starchild, Shepard finally gets indoctrinated by the Reapers at the very end and you have to play as the squadmate with highest relationship points or their LI to stop them. 

If your ems is high enough, you can break through the indoctrination and bring Shepard back to stop the cycle.

If your ems is too low, you have to stop Shepard. 

Permanently. 

And it falls to you to activate the Crucible.

The inherent comedic potential of the Nihlus lives AU in ME2

Picking him to come along for Samara's recruitment mission and him going, "Shepard, I have to get off this planet right now" once he realises it's that justicar

Shepard waking up in the middle of the night to find Nihlus camping on her couch armed to the teeth and being like, "Nihlus, what the hell are you doing?"

And him going, "This is the only place she wouldn't dare enter without permission"

I love both of these ideas because I didn’t even consider Nihlus being taken on Samara’s recruitment mission because surely it can’t be THAT justicar (it is). The dawning realization for Nihlus that it absolutely is THAT justicar and he needs off this planet NOW is priceless.

Once she is Oathbound to Shepard, Samara won’t hunt him on the Normandy but I could easily see Nihlus “I move faster on my own” Kyrik deciding he’s not taking any chances and camping out in Shepard’s room. Shepard probably would get tired of him avoiding Samara though because they’re building a team damn it and start taking them on missions together as a form of “this is our get along shirt” which has its own potential comedy of awkward teammate dynamics of Samara and Nihlus calling out things the other did to hunt each other on that planet as tactics for the other person to do.

I love this idea because with photomode in MELE I’m pretty damn sure they just wholesale reused Nihilus’ entire head model for an NPC sitting across from Samara while she meditates. Like for a long time I was convinced it was just a reuse of his colony marking and color scheme like Councilor Sparatus, but nah he’s got the green eyes and mandible shape and everything:

So I wanna believe that Nihilus is alive and well in the grand tradition of unlikely head trauma survival in Mass Effect, and he’s trying very very hard not to talk too loudly or look directly at that crazy justicar they just wheeled in, play it cool man play it cool
