This makes me so angry I felt the need to respond.
Women were not born with the right to vote while white, male property owners were. We fought for the right and got it in 1920, in case you forgot that history lesson. Also, because of Voter ID laws and restrictions in the US, it’s become harder for women and minorities to vote in recent years.
Women can wear what they want in theory, a lot of women do not for fear of slut shaming and body shaming. Oh and the fact that when a woman is assaulted, one of the first questions they are asked is, ‘Oh, well what were you wearing?’.
White women get paid 77 cents to the white mens dollar. Hispanic women 55 cents, black women 67 cents, Asian women 87 cents. Here is an article about it. There is even a law about it called the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Also, have you heard of that thing called the glass ceiling? Where it is hard for women and minorities to advance in the workplace due to an invisible barrier? PS: Title VII.
¼ women on college campuses are sexually assaulted. 1/6 women are in their lifetime. In theory women can go out alone but most women do not for fear of being followed, harassed, assaulted, cat-called, etc. AKA we don’t want to take those chances.
Female circumcision is not a huge issue in this country, but it is in many others such as Africa, FYI. Here are the facts provided by the World Health Organization
Yes we have the right to own property, but we had to be married (among other things) and the last state to ratify the law was in the 1870’s. Please refer to the top of this page. Today, we run the risk of having tenants and neighbors who may make us feel uncomfortable depending on if either party makes inappropriate comments towards us.
A majority of rapes are not reported to the authorities, for fear of not being believe or feeling at fault for the assault, so the person who was perpetrated against feels ashamed of themselves when there was absolutely nothing they could do about it.. According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network), 97% percent of rapists will spend 0 days in jail. That is 3 out of 100 perpetrators. It should also be noted that restraining orders are not taken seriously a majority of the time, that some perpetrators find loopholes, and the police do not enforce them as much as they should.
There are some women in the USA and may in other countries who are forced into arranged marriages because of their culture, geographic religion, belief system, etc. or a combination of these factors. Please read the first paragraph and follow the cited links.
Did you know that laws needed to be made by the federal government to ensure that colleges and universities offer the same resources and opportunities that men have to women????? Yeah, it’s called Title IX. And many times, they still don’t comply, as with the recent federal investigations of over 55 universities across the country who may be in violation of it.
Did you know that women in Saudi Arabia cannot drive? Here is an article that discusses the brave, strong women who are rebelling against this archaic law (that still exists, BTW).
