Valencia College professor Neal Phillips pulls from a wide repertoire of songs to play on his electric violin. But what makes his music unique is his instrument. Sad news to report. After a hard-fought battle with breast cancer, longtime Orlando Police officer Karen Long died Saturday with her family by her side. She worked for OPD since 2000. During her tenure, she was a patrol officer, worked on the Special Victims Unit and was a school resource officer. She last worked as a Master Police Officer in OPD's Community Involvement Division. Teachers Nathan Smith & Danita Jones took their students on a field trip. They attended the grand opening of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown #Orlando. Upon their arrival they were greeted by a man who exclaimed "oh those kids are from the ghetto!" He believed that they wouldn't be on "this side of town" unless their parents brought them to a basketball game. That encounter inspired their street performance for this year's @creativecityproject Nathan/Danita want to empower their students to have a voice. Their street performance will focus on issues of division & how to create unity in the city beautiful. This is their rehearsal of a song titled "R.I.P" that will be part of their performance. Alfonso Ribeiro is having a busy week. Between hosting Dancing With the Stars, starting the second season of his Food Network show Unwrapped 2.0 and hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos, he found time to make it to Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando. Traffic streaks past The Barn in Sanford. Drive into Sanford on U.S. Highway 17-92 and one of the first things you'll notice is The Barn's iconic neon sign with a pair of girls dancing on the top corners. Now Sanford is moving forward with designating the sign as a historic landmark. The Barn has long been a working man's country bar. It's a place where Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton have played. Another good video and story from @sa_roar of the #OrlandoSentinel. "@hogeathog is an #Orlando based #woodworking shop. Blair Sligar was a student at the University of Central Florida where he studied art. Yet Sligar struggled to maintain the shop, family life, & school. "I quit school," He said. "I jumped fully into woodworking & for the past 7 years that's what I've done." Nowadays Sligar is the founder & lead designer of Hog Eat Hog (HEH). HEH is a woodworking shop specializing in furniture & art installations. "I don't know, I call it rascalling it.
