The Contract

Ariadne was told by her superior that she would have to work with a member of the Thieve’s Guild for her next contract. She was not happy about being paired up. She knew she worked better on her own.

She was told to meet the thief at the Windpeak Inn and wait for instructions from the guild member. 

She arrived early, ignoring the eyes that were on her and her red and black armor. She ordered a piece of bread and cheese and waited.

Ariadne finished her meal and there was still no sign of the guild member. She was about to leave when the door opened and the patron made her way over to Ariadne. Is this seat taken? Ariadne shook her head, offering the seat to the Bosmer.

Luth silently slid into the seat, nodding to the woman. She waited for the barmaid to approach, before she said a word. “I’ll have an ale, thanks.”

As soon as they were alone again she looked the Breton in the eyes, and gave her a slight smile. “Hello. I believe we’re going to be working together for a little while, yes? You may call me Luth. I hope you know how to move silently.”

Ariadne tried to hole the womer's gaze, but found herself looking away. Eye contact made her uncomfortable, especially with someone she didn't know. "Ariadne." she replied quietly. "I wouldn't be good at my job if I couldn't." she added, answering Luth's question.

Ariadne could feel someone watching her in the dead of night. She placed readied a conjuration spell in case she had to use it. “Whose there.” she called out.

A mistress of the night she was silent and stealthy it was an art that only thieves and assassins made great use of. Serana’s eyes glowed softly from the shadows before slowly stepping out revealing the rest of herself. Parts of her features, highlighted and darken by the dim flickering light. “Hello child… I am Serana Volkihar,” she says simply with a small nod.

Ariadne eyed the stranger, examining every detail of her appearance and physical characteristics. “What do you want…vampire?” she questioned. 

Ariadne figured out she was a vampire with relative ease. After spending so much time with Babette, she was good at spotting a vampire.

Serana stood there eying the assassin. She took another step forward. “Nothing just curious and no don’t worry about me spilling secrets…our kind are quite good at keeping secrets,” she added. She stared at her some more. “You kill tell me… do you kill for an order or for yourself?”

"I kill for my family." she responded without hesitation. "Why do you want to know?" she tilted her head.

The third man ran away, realising he was now outnumbered and disppeared in the dark. Minerva knew she had no chance of hitting him so she let him go. “Thank you.” She said to the other woman, as she approached the first man to finish him. Minerva stared quietly at the body, thinking. The woman’s moves were silent and quick. It reminded her of someone else. “Are you… from the Brotherhood?”

Ariadne pulled her dagger from the man’s neck, ignoring the woman as she walked back into the camp, her breathing was surprisingly heavy for having killed only one person. As she sat down, there was a sharp pain in her side. She put her hand there and felt a warm, sticky, liquid. The Dawnguard member must have stabbed her as she was killing him and she didn’t feel it because of adrenaline. 

She looked up at the stranger. “Your fault.” she said, showing her her bloodied hand. “And to answer your question, yes I am.” she said proudly.

"I have some potions, if you are in need." Minerva realised she was in debt with the stranger, so what where a couple of potions in exchange for her life? "You are a dark sister. You must know then, a boy named Ares."

Ariadne was never one to take charity, but she was out of potions and needed something to help. "Yes, I need a potion." she grunted as she tried to lift her armor to get a better look at the wound.

She looked up at the stranger after she asked her question. "Yes, I know of him. We are rarely around each other, though." she answered with a sigh of relief as she removed her upper armor, wearing nothing but a blood covered small shirt underneath.

The banging at the door had Aeliths head shooting up from her book. Who in oblivion was knocking at this hour? Grabbing the shawl her mother had sent the week before, she padded to the main door of Vilindral hall, opening it a crack, not wishing to get a face full of rain.“Oh sweet Kynareth? I don’t know you, but I’m not leaving you out in this.” She told the young woman almost passed out against her door.Bending and hooking her arms under the hurt woman’s, she hauled her into the house, calling for Argis to bring her healing chest, warm water and bandages.

Ariadne grunted as the woman carried her into the room. She could barely speak and the fever was making her delusional. “No..no, where are you, sister?” she cried, the fever taking her toll.

For the first time in an age the bright flare of restoration filled both Aeliths hands without asking permission. The young woman was in a bad way. "The things you requested Aelith. Do you need anything else?" Came Argis’s quiet voice. "Please, get the guest bed ready, and bank the fire, then come give me a hand getting her into it. Staying on the floor won’t help her condition." The mage panted, her magika beginning to drain. Aelith pulled back a little as the bleeding slowed and a little colour returned to her patients cheeks. Footsteps made her look up, Argis had returned. Scooping up the injured woman he carried her to the guest room, placing her gently on the wooden bed.

The healing spells did nothing to halt the fever that was burning Ariadne from the inside out. Her eyes were open and active, but she had no idea what was going on around her, she was still stuck in her delusion. "Daddy, help. Katrina went under the water and hasn't come up!" she cried out as they laid her on the bed.

"People that don't like me." Or others like me... the thing about vampirism was that darkness wasn't a mystery for you anymore. Sure, it was still dark, but the silhouettes shaped clear like in the gloom. "They're three. I'll shoot the one with the crossbow in the left. I leave you the one that's in your direction. In three... two... one." She shot.

Ariadne could barely make out a shadow before the stranger was calling out orders. "Damn it." she said as she saw her release her arrow. 

Ariadne scramble through the brush and stuck her dagger into the Dawnguard's soldiers neck, twisting as she did so. The man didn't have time to even take his last breath before he chocked on his own blood.

Ariadne managed to smile. She could already tell that she liked this Khajiit. “Good thing, indeed.” she replied. “Where are you heading?” she asked, starting to become more comfortable.

She nods cheerily, then shrugs a little, “Wherever her feet take her, as usual. Skyrim is not her home, so she just wanders.” Tsa’biira tilts her head, lacing her fingers and stretching her arms out, “Though this morning she is not feeling particularly adventurous.”

Ariadne thought for a moment before she smiled nervously. "You could come with me." she suggested. "Maybe you can find your adventure." her eyes lighting up at the idea of an adventure.

Ariadne put a hand on her shoulder, pulling it away and looking at a large amount of blood. “Do you have a potion?” she asked, a cold sweat forming on her forehead.

Drusilla got her knapsack off and searched for a potion in it. “Aye”, she mumbled and walked over to Ariadne, opening the bottle and taking it in her free hand. “I’m sorry… we should treat it before it gets worse.”

Ariadne snatched the bottle from Drusilla's hand and poured some on her wound, holding back a scream as she did so. She downed the rest and tried to move her armor away from her shoulder. "..It was a good shot." she admitted.

In the middle of the night, right before dawn, Minerva heard a branch breaking. The noise reached that part of her brain that cotrolled the fear and she inmediatly woke up and silently grabbed her bow and arrows. She crept next to where the other woman was sleeping. "We have visitors." She whispered. The Dawnguard for sure.

Ariadne awoke immediately when the stranger whispered to her, not fully being asleep anyway. She grabbed the dagger she kept above her head. "Who is coming?" she snapped.

"I was minding my own business." Ariadne groaned. "You are the one who tried to kill me." she said, coming closer to the archer.

"Aye because a couple of people following me, wanting to kill me. I thought you were one of them. Can’t be too careful."

Ariadne put a hand on her shoulder, pulling it away and looking at a large amount of blood. "Do you have a potion?" she asked, a cold sweat forming on her forehead.

  Ariadne was swearing under her breath, upset that someone would lose her child. Parents are supposed to love you, and take care of you, not lose you. she thought to herself, looking for any sign a small child.

The Breton knelt down as she noticed some small tracks. What she saw next made her heart stop beating. There were large animal tracks near the small tracks. “Sabercat.” Ariadne said outloud as she took off in the directions of the tracks.

Ariadne ran as fast as she could through the trees, trying to follow the tracks without running into the trees. A high pitched scream cause her to run even faster.

She came to an opening where she saw a small child in a green dress huddling against a tree as a large sabercat was eyeing her down, ready to strike. Ariadne didn’t have time to think, she just drew her daggers and ran for the beast, stabbing its sides as hard as she could. The beast roared in pain as it swung around and slashed Ariadne’s stomach, cutting her badly. 

Ariadne gripped her stomach as she picked the crying child up with her other arm. She moved her free hand and cast a conjuration spell. A portal was opened and a flame atronach emerged between them and the beast. “Attack!” Ariadne yelled as she ran into the trees with the child. 

The child was gripping her tight as the Breton ran into the forest, not looking back. They must have made it a mile or two before Ariadne slowed down, the bleeding on her stomach finally getting to her. She set the child down and collapsed to her knees.

Liara couldn’t stop crying. She had gotten distracted by a pretty butterfly when her mother was stalking a deer and lost her way. She was so scared. And then she saw the big scary cat. She wanted to scream but she couldn’t find her voice. When the woman came to save her, she couldn’t decide if she was relieved or more scared. The stranger was hurt badly, very badly. Then, she was swept off the ground and carried away while a weird fire lady fought the big cat.

When they finally stopped, Liara’s dress was covered with her rescuer’s blood. She knew they needed help, so she did what she had been meaning to do for a while now: scream.

Ariadne could tell that she was severely injured, the slashes on her stomach wouldn't stop bleeding. She had no healing magic and no potions on her. 

Her version was growling blurry as she forced herself against a tree. In her mind she had to stay alive long enough for the child to be safe, but her consciousness was slipping away. "I'm sorry." she said to the child before she passed out.

  Ariadne rolled her eyes as she looked at the stranger. “Resting.” she said, opening her book and began writing, hoping he would go away.

The mer’s grin stretched wider. He raised one eyebrow cockily. “Been travelin’ long, then?”

"Murder contracts do that." she groaned, sitting up enough that he can see that she is well armed.

Minerva pushed her away. "I'm fine. I just need some sleep. I'll leave within dawn and I won't bother you anymore." She managed to say, avoiding the sranger's eyes.

Ariadne bit her tongue as she was shoved. There was obviously something wrong, but the stranger clearly was not going to tell her. "Then sleep." she snapped as she stood up to finish gathering wood.

Today Ariadne thought, realizing this could be applied to herself as well. 

"Not jumpy, just not used to…this." she said, moving her hand back and fourth between them, showing how awkward to was.

She doesn’t seem to be aware of her little slip-up, and continues as if nothing is wrong. Tsa’biira makes a little ‘oh’ of understanding, then smiles warmly in the hopes of easing the woman’s nervousness, “Don’t be worried. Khajiit is good conversationalist, or so she has been told. Perfectly amiable. Not threatening unless she wants to be- which is always a good thing.”

Ariadne managed to smile. She could already tell that she liked this Khajiit. "Good thing, indeed." she replied. "Where are you heading?" she asked, starting to become more comfortable.
