finally reading lord of souls after finishing and enjoying the infernal city several years ago. tf is with this book and its female characters it feels like a cheap sequel full of straight men's teenage fantasies
this book has an awkward (or sometimes just straight up non-consensual) het meet cute every other page what is going on!!

something in either zenimax or bethesda's (or microsoft's i guess) internal terminology guidelines changed a year or two ago where now new groups in eso and fo76 keep being referred to in-game as "factions" "the factions" "new factions" etc and it's driving me nuts. it sounds like the characters are reading from a wiki or a design document and takes me out of whatever's happening immediately
i know it's early here on the east coast of the US but i imagine not finding a single soul in the new content area on a weekend is maybe not the best sign of game health
ugh i wish the group finder for the night market functioned like the dungeon one, where you're automatically slotted into fitting groups -_- every time ive tried to join one manually it's ended up being 10 dps and a healer and then the group disbands and everyone leaves
if tamriel is the present and goblins were already there when the people of the metaphysical past and future (aldmeris, atmora) arrived perhaps their original societal stature collapsed bc the present is such a mutable, brief and unstable thing compared to the past and future which extend outward from either side in perpetuity
(more rambling) i dont rly like the idea of the goblin gate being a literal parallel universe, esp when nirn-adjacent (non-oblivion) "universes" in tes history tend to be "timelines" more than they are totally different worlds with different inhabitants (not impossible, just not rly what we've seen in the series thus far outside of major shifts like kalpas) and the eso lore minute or w/e quip abt goblins being "of a different time" furthers my thought that the giant goblins from the gate were purposeful visitors from a variant timeline where men and elves didnt eradicate or metaphysically affect goblins-- or at least hadn't yet if the whole time thing holds up
it's a small difference but essentially i think the giant goblins were strategically affecting a future series of wars via time magic, instead of being interdimensional refugees or invaders

LOVED seeing a goblin in the night market in general btw, ogres too, like fuuuuck yes more canon examples of goblin-ken being more than capable of things like interplanar travel and trade
new goblin name in the eso night market!!
he drums :)
this is also the first instance of goblin orthography using ph to represent f\ɸ ! tho it uses other digraphs for other fricatives as well so not surprising. orcish uses it a lot, so it's cool to see a possible example of divergence where the frequency of it died out over time in one language, but not the other

no one in skyrim but the stronghold orcs can tell buruk is from orsinium or of any importance at all so every time a jarl gives him a bounty to complete he's like "oh my goodness.. they must've heard of my plight and are testing my abilities. i must complete this task with all the fortitude and grace afforded one of my upbringing" but the jarl's rly just like hey that guy looks buff. send him after it i guess.
buruk's pov: I thank you, your eminence, for the opportunity and trust bestowed upon me by thine office to prove myself in spite of my earlier follies. the city of orsinium thrives upon the back of your grace
jarl's pov: (seeing an oddly loquacious orc walk out of the woods) can someone get this guy out of here. send him to the murder cave ive been meaning to get rid of

bc my brain moves on from things after mere nanoseconds i started Another new skyrim playthrough as a young dignitary from orsinium whose party was falsely arrested when entering skyrim. it's Buruk's (his name) first time being allowed to lead an actual diplomatic mission and as such he's appropriately green and out of his depth. i dont have a full name yet but it's gonna be long and formal. he's definitely the type to tell bandits "hey you can't kill people that's illegal" like not quite so innocent as to go against traditional orcish high society rules and training (he's well trained in p much all martial weapons) but he's a bit naïve
dumbasssss got himself arrested and has to build his entire inventory up from scratch. and on his first mission too. kind of an epic fail
another fun challenge ive given myself this go around is that im not allowed to do anything Buruk-- a formally trained and educated Orcish dignitary-- would consider dishonorable. so no looting urns or corpses he didn't make himself through combat, no magic or potions when 'assissting' the old orc soldier, that type of thing. also gives me a roleplay reason to go out of my way to clear out bandit camps.
(contextless but im just rambling anyway) i imagine that given orcish's general plural form using the -im suffix, 'norgim' (death) evolved from the old orcish 'nor' (death) to mean 'death in general' as opposed to a single or specific death, with the infixed -g- perhaps being a sign of nominalization, or specificalization, and 'norgimin' literally translating to something like "of/about death" instead of being the standard perfect present participle 'dying'
inspo for Buruk's armor when i finally get around to drawing him... you see my vision
