upbringing
she was born on a stormy night on 18 march to murad i + haseki sultan hurrem of poland. she was small but she was healthy and very cherished.
growing up she was, and is, very close to her mother. she’s always amazed by her beauty and grace on how she handles her brother’s condition and always tried to cheer her up with bringing her food or things she made for her. it was instilled by her mom that they can should only be as happy as their poorest peasant and she didn’t understand until she started sitting on her balconies at the palaces they would stay at and look out, studying what she could, and then she understood. she would send out her old dresses, shoes, gloves anything she thought might help her people. and when she wasn’t trying to save the people she could she was in the library with her many tutors, learning everything from art to math to languages. this is when she started to realize she was in a gilded cage, a servant to the crown, her people and her father.
he terrified her as he did others but she was able study him like she did with others around her, but she knew what to say and do to make him happy she that was what she did. with the apple of her father’s eye, many think she is a small and delicate flower as she acts like that within the eyes of the court, she bows and bends when asked, she speaks to everyone she should and has read every book put in front of her. but little does everyone know how much she loathes it and has them fooled. how much of a puppet she feels, she loves her family but wishes to speak of things that interested her the arts and philosophy and not politics. she doesn’t wish to marry a prince, she wishes to marry for love. and that is what she will get, even if its the last thing she does.
the love that changed her life
one day being inside a palace was too much for her. she somehow convinced her lady to loan her an outfit and out they went. it was a wonderful day for arzu, meeting people, shopping, experiencing life as if she were a commander. she learned more in one day that she had in a year of sessions with her tutors. it saddened her heart to have to go back. they were blocks from the palace when arzu got hit and ended up twisting her ankle. it added hours to the journey, but it added years onto her life. it was a commoner boy about her age. it was as if arzu had never lived before meeting him. it was near dusk when arzu came back to the palace. she hadn’t seen anyone and she knew they would ask in the morning. her father asked why she was limping and she rolled it off as a dancing injury on learning the new dances of europe.
and a whirlwind romance started, she wasn’t able to leave the palace again but her lady was able to get letters back and forth between them. but it only lasted about a month.
she had just gotten the courage to tell her father she would be marrying him but that was the day she was told they were going to england and never again did she see him.
england
england was terrifying to arzu, being in the “western” world, so much was different the culture was different than to her own. she converted from islam to the church of england
at first she didn’t try to get to know the prince, too heartbroken and one day she cracked and told her husband what had happened, and he only kissed her on the forehead and allowed their love to blossom and soon arzu fell badly and deeply in love with her husband and her new home forgetting about her first “love”
personality
arzu’s name translated is wish, hope + love. something she follows as she travels through life. she is a bit of a dreamer, wears her heart on her sleeve but can also be cunning went crossed, her anger flares but she can quickly, sometimes, control it and her tongue.
