Recent reports have raised concerns among the citizens of Gotham City about the potential relationship between the mayor, Oswald Cobblepot, and his chief of staff, Edward Nygma. According to an article published in The Daily Gotham, the two individuals have been observed being “close” both in and out of the office. While some may dismiss these concerns as mere gossip, others are curious about the nature of their alleged closeness. Could it be a simple friendship between colleagues or something more? The article published in The Daily Gotham has only added fuel to the fire. Speculations about the two individuals’ relationship have been circulating for some time, and the article has provided some evidence to support them. However, without concrete proof or a statement from the mayor’s office, it is difficult to know the truth. Nevertheless, the reports have piqued the interest of many citizens, and they are eager to learn more about what’s really going on behind the scenes at City Hall and Van Dahl Mansion.

hopping on this stupid meme
Oswald Cobblepot is so funny because he’s really like “Ed I forgive you for trying to murder me 14 times and using my dead father against me and ruining my dream career and publicly humiliating me ♥️” but if anyone else, like, accidentally ate his sandwich they’d be dead within 24 hours
As Chuck Tingle would say... Love is real.
i want a gotham spin-off about what ed and oswald did during their time in prison 💔

Every so often we get a new batch of fans coming into the fandom confused about this ship name. It's hard to say, spell, and sounds ridiculous. Who would ever come up with it and why not just use riddlebird instead?
So the answer to the first question is Cory Michael Smith. That's right, the actor who plays Edward from Gotham came up with the ship name. Love it or hate it, that's where it came from and likely why it gained popularity.
As for the second question, the ship name's origin is part of it but not the full story. At the height of Gotham's popularity, there were many fans who would tag using both ship names. This basically flooded the Riddlebird tag with Gotham content. For fans of older iterations of Oswald and Edward, it became a source of frustration and a nuisance trying to find Riddlebird content not from Gotham. Many of us fans at that time ceased using the Riddlebird tag as a courtesy. It doesn't matter as much these days with Gotham content much slowed down but back then it was a big deal.
Anyway, that's it. The reasons behind the weird, clunky ship name. Take it or leave it, it's up to you.
