Donna made her slow way across the mall, patches of water all over the floor. These were all lawsuits waiting to happen. She winced as she sidestepped another slippery spot, but a person behind her wasn’t so lucky. Donna turned around when she heard the big thump of someone falling. Hearing the girl mumble to herself, looking at her spilled bag, Donna couldn’t just walk away. 

“Hey, are you ok? I can help.”

She felt so stupid, how could she have been so caught up in her own world that she didn’t see the stupid puddle on the floor. Now her stuff was all over and she looked like an idiot. Oswald began to move forward, grabbing things as she went along trying not to cry. The Japanese born-Latina muttered in her home language not noticing someone was talking to her. 

It wasn’t until she had to pick up her compact by Donna’s foot that she acknowledged the other. Jumping slightly, the Latina rubs at her eyes. “I’m sorry, it’s been a rough day.” A rough life more like it.
