“It is, knock in a window or something. I get your attempt was to recreate the doom and gloom of your Underworld, but not everything has to be so dreary. Maybe people would enjoy coming to visit you, and pay your money back faster, if you introduced some pinks or reds into the colour scheme.” She waited until they’d reached the door to speak, the chill of the night hitting her skin as a welcome change from the overcrowded space they’d just left. He earned himself a polite smile for holding the door open for her, chivalry always went a long way with Aphrodite.
“No, I think I’m pretty perfect just the way I am. Don’t you?” She returned his question with a smug look. They both knew she wasn’t, they both knew there was plenty to should promise to change or better about herself. “How about yourself? Resolving to have more fun? That sounds like a good one for you.”
“Pinks and reds.” Hades parroted back, slipping his hands into his coat pockets to keep them warm. He found it ironic, her giving him advice on his own business. “Well I guess I know who to come to if I ever decide to make any renovations.”
Hades giggled at her comment. Joking or not, there was obviously a right and wrong answer to that question, and a trap he wasn’t going to get himself into. “Well since you’ve got it all figured out, maybe you should resolve to grace us all with your presence more this year. Why deny perfection to us underlings?” He bowed his head, not wanting to answer her question. Being in the thick of his divorce made having fun seem like a long shot, but he wasn’t going to bring that up in her company. Then again, that made it as valid of a resolution as any... “I agree.”
As they continued their walk, Hades noticed them closing in on a closed rink. Clearly since everyone had been celebrating in the streets so late at night, there wouldn’t have been much need to keep it open... then the idea hit him. “I can start now if you’d like to help.”
