...The Amazing Digital Circus was made with a six figure grant by Epic (of Epic Game Store and Fortnite). Iron Lung was made by a multimillionaire who was already well established with connections. They were certainly indie projects, but they were also far better funded and equipped than what we traditionally mean when we use that term, closer to Hades 2 or Silksong.

Also, did you watch Toy Story 5? It's an in depth and thoughtful examination of the many problems faced by iPad kids and why that's a problem that resists the urge to just do 'tech bad, grass stains and drinking from the hose'. And that is coupled with giving Jessie a character arc in which she has to learn to let go and accept loss and drifting apart, addressing it in a way that is made stronger by the fact that it is Toy Story 5, that this is Jessie Toy Story learning this lesson, that the specter of When Somebody Loved Me is looming over the character like the reaper. Like it or don't, but it wasn't slop.

Hexed is a teaser trailer. All we have is the bare bones premise and some eye catch shots. Maybe it'll suck, but I found it charming enough to be cautiously optimistic.

Shrek 5...looks like shit though, yeah, that's gonna be a rough time.

i didn't say tadc and iron lung were the only successful indie media of the year but okay 😭😭😭

and look, i agree with the whole "kids shouldn't be on ipads" thing, but we do not need a fifth toy story. it's cheap to keep reusing the same series and keep creating sequels because it's *guaranteed* that people are going to show up because they already know the characters. you can have the "technology bad" storyline, but in a different show. (also, look at the disney release date for the next year: they're mostly sequels or live-action remakes. it's exhausting. walt disney is rolling in his grave.)

not to mention the franchise should've ended with the third movie. we've had about two fake endings now, and at some point it gets exhausting and begins to lose its impact. jessie already got her arc in the second movie: she chose to go home with woody and return to a kid, embracing the fact that she might get hurt, but it's worth it. she's not a main character, she's a side character who gets a side character arc. love her just as much as the next person, but we don't need a full movie for her.

hexed also is just a knockoff of the owl house (quirky girl who struggles in school gets swept up into a world of witches and finds belonging thru magic...), which is cheap bc disney already cancelled toh. some parts of the trailer are charming, i guess, but it's the same "adorkable" archetype plastered onto a new movie. they're playing it safe with a quick cash grab.

i mean, who knows...maybe i'm wrong about that, and it'll be better when it comes out, but to me it just looks like a bunch of recycled tropes/storylines that have been mashed into a new movie.

i have TONS of plans for Sunstalker AUs (or alternatively, Stalker of the Sun AU!), but I wanted to see if theres a specific one yalld like to see first 👀 so heres a small breakdown of the current three main flavors of my Sunstalker AUs !

Simple Sunny is the closest to canon and the my personal focus (and favorite!) for future scene rewrites ! while she looks scary in the above art, this is of the SS Sunstalker AU, set sometime during the fifth book and/or in a dream sequence (no quite sure, but this is still our closest canon Sunny !)

Radiant Saint is our good Sunstalker AU ! Darkstalker had dreams of kinghood and becoming godlike, but due to his actions, that never happened, but in RR Sunstalker, Sunny is the goodest good ever and becomes the goddess figure Darkstalker could only dream of (of course, theres many….nuances to her godhood, but yk ✌️)

Solar Eclipse is our evil Sunstalker AU ! due to hearing other’s thoughts, she grows up a lot more bitter (though her personality is still v much Sunny!) and its before the escape that their Guardians push just a little too far and……well. emotions and animus magic are well known to become potentially explosive if repressed for too long..

ill draw a comparison of them all eventually dw, but im thinking of a couple more SS and maybe even SE Sunstalker pieces before that,,, :3

not sure if this has been elaborated on or mentioned at all (probably has) but also... the height difference between her and darkstalker surely means something, or could mean something in the radiant saint AU

like. she's known all her life to be "unusually small" and "adorably tiny", and when darkstinker came out of the mountain he was ginormous, bigger than any dragon on the continent at that time.

and obviously he had this huge ego; *he* was going to be the king of the nightwings, *he* was the most powerful dragon on the planet, *he* was exceptionally handsome and almighty and god-like...

on the OTHER hand, in this AU, sunny would have all his powers and *still* be ridiculously small. not sure what u have planned for the AU, but; sunny having all of darkstalker's powers and choosing to see the good within the dragons who raised her instead of the bad. sunny choosing to see the good in the dragons who manipulated her, seeing how sick and alone the nightwing tribe was, seeing it all in their thoughts (akin to the final battle in book 10 when their thoughts were broadcasted), etc. she's *humble*, she wants to help

in essence, super big egotistical deity-like being contrasted with super small humble mother theresa-like dragonet.

the height difference def is important here, i will be keeping up with this AU 🤭
