note: in the first fairytopia film, topaz is assigned orange and tourmaline yellow, but in magic of the rainbow they are switched. i went with the magic of the rainbow version. in the magic of the rainbow, we also get a better 'view' of the other guardians too. i think they also did some gender swapping here (good for them hehe)
this was a brief sketch to get a starting point for the overall layout. some things i am more sure about than others, but i think this is a coherent start.
i might make a seperate post breaking down all my reasoning for placement and stuff, but for now some of the main points:
we know that fairytown is the closest province to the magic meadow
after the spooky wood (which has not yet been included on this map) there is a small section of blue flowers that elina and bibble must traverse to reach fairytown. from the dvd game, it is assumed this area might be the bloom. i included this as a complete border to fairytown
the main layout was taken from the long, horizontal map, with at least the order from left to right: golden forest, crystal palace, enchanted (magic) meadow, fairytown, the river cutting between, then the flowerfields, spiderella's castle behind, the moonlight lakes, and the moonbeam marshes
i filled in the back with the majestic mountains, as the backdrop is filled with mountains, as well as the crystal palace shown in the film having a very mountainous backdrop
i think the bogs of the hinterlands would fit well behind the mountains, still kind of elevated. the map also suggests it could be around here (through the colours used), although there also seems to be a dragon wrapped around on of the mountain peaks? i've noted this as a blanket bog, and with hinterlands meaning "the land behind the coast or the banks of a river, or an area of a country that is far away from cities" (cambridge dictionary), it would make sense it would be quite an isolated area, cut off by rough mountain terrain from the rest of fairytopia
the map also doesn't include the wildering wood or the desert
to make it more ecologically coherent, it would make sense to have the desert away from the wetter environments (the marshes and the bog, which occupy two of the three main 'corners' of the map)
we also know that once elina and friends are in the wildering wood, they are pretty close to the desert, and the trees all seem to be suffering and dying. this then makes sense to have the wildering wood quite close
when nalu helps elina and friends get to the wildering wood, the journey is: fairytown to crystal cove, meet nalu and swim until they reach quite close to the wildering wood. (this section and journey still needs more work in terms of figuring out the map. perhaps i need more of a buffer between the enchanted river and the wildering wood, maybe the enchanted river needs to be closer to the magic meadow (inbetween there and the flowerfields?), with the river nalu brings the group up not being the enchanted river - this section needs work hehe)
and ofc the sea of dreams which will be mermaidia territory and the next area to tackle after fairytopia (enchanted river is also mermaidia territory, but interacts more strongly with fairytopia)
sorry, this all feels very messy atm, but once i have better worked it out, i will make a fresh post with clearer texts and thoughts lmao
