Oh, he should have bowed. Or shown more respect to her. Fear perhaps. Not this. Not looking at Sin as if she were nothing. An equal even. Her face shifted and fires lit up behind her eyes. Muscles morphed until her face was stretched into an abnormally long angular scream - a scream filled with razor sharp teeth.

"How dare you underestimate me like this! How dare you treat me like this!" The hiss echoed around them... and then died down at his next comment.

"... You would speak to me? You would have a conversation?" The fearsome expression melted away and she almost seemed... soft. Vulnerable. Was she also shrinking? Not by any significant amount but ever so subtly, she shrank down to a more manageable size.

There was a trick to interacting face to- well, as close as one could call a face with entities that would threaten the sanity of whoever beheld them. One he had learned very early on and become quite proficient in- Don't bother trying to understand what you were looking at.

His fingers twitched around the butt of his gun, foot slid back half a step. It wasn't likely to accomplish anything, if things came to it. He was mortal. Completely and utterly mortal. He knew enough to be an annoyance, perhaps cause the equivalent of a paper cut to an entity of godlike power- but he would still certainly lose that fight. Luckily, it seemed as if that wouldn't be necessary. He had managed to strike upon something desired- that maybe no one else had even thought to offer. Interesting. "Yeah. Don't see any reason not to." None that would apply to him, at least. The prior display would have scared off most people, true. "Got a name you want to be called by?"

"Are you... ill then? Sickly yourself?" Or was there someone else beneath the story? Someone that E.L. was looking to help, someone that E.L. was willing to join a church.

And such a church if what Cain heard of it were true.

"I don't imagine your friends would like it very much to have me around. I am not exactly a good luck charm for those in my proximity." Especially if he came to care about those people. Harm wouldn't befall him, but the same couldn't be said about the ones sharing a house with him.

"... I would be honored if you would be willing to help me like that. Just... keep an ear out for me on anything that might help." Even this much felt massive in ask for help in. Something far beyond what he even deserved. Sheepishly, Cain glanced around - as if expecting the cruelty to lash out more. Make it clear how karma would repay him.

"I... I don't have much money currently on me to pay you for this service. But I'm glad to fetch any price you name if given the time." Cain had a number of skills to his name that he gladly would utilize for money.

"No." Despite the metal hand he had resting against the table, the burn scarring along the side of his neck. It was not for himself. He would not have bothered to go through the hassle of that for himself.

He shrugged, offered a hum. They had already been through all sorts of unfortunate events, doubted they would really are much about more of them consistently. It still wasn't worth pressing the matter.

E.L. waved his hand, reached for one of the rolls. "It'll depend on how much of a pain the ass it ends up being to get the information." This was different than specifically seeking it- just keeping an ear out. Less active effort, less need to possibly put oneself in danger to get it. "Specifically looking for something is different than just stumbling across information."

"You are so right. This is not a good conversation!" Dainty paws rose to rub at her ears and eyes, as if cleansing both from the words and thoughts of those morbid topics of death and despair. Bluebonnet took a moment to readjust her cap and straighten out her apron before smiling up to the stranger - former stranger, now burgeoning on acquaintance.

"I am enjoying the city! Thank you!" Bluebonnet bowed her head, "How long have you lived here? Or do you even live here?" Where he seemed more awkward and unsure how to go about a casual conversation, Bluebonnet was more than accustomed to ignoring dark subject just to tend towards meaningless small talk... In fact, Bluebonnet could distract herself with a great number of subjects, including but not limited to the weather, shiny rocks she found, and even random poetry she heard one time and barely remembered.

"Wait, sorry. What's your name again??"

It wasn't the kind of conversation he could avoid forever, he knew. It would come up with the crew, random other strangers he had to speak with for more than just purchases. But given his current company, it was likely for the best.

He normally avoided conversation when possible, kept to himself. Whatever conversations he had on the ship he tried to keep to strictly business. "Just passing through." Who knew how long they would be here, before they were back off on their quest to find whatever this map lead to. He didn't exactly have the luxury of distracting himself- or at least, that's what he had convinced himself.

He then blinked at the question, stood there a moment. "... E.L. Wallace."

What a fascinating specimen. Someone who learned abyssal to communicate with them as a member of the clergy? Of course, Sin had heard of such people, but they always felt so distant. Like stories one might tell, never fully believing in them. Until, she was face to (well, if you could call what she had) face with one.

"Oh, but I am evil. I am the Source of Evil. I am what drives every man to their darkest urges." Sin... didn't know how to handle this situation. In some ways, it only served to infuriate her further. Once again, somebody refused to acknowledge her, treating her like someone who could be forgotten and overlooked! Did they not know who they shoot against (clearly not)?

"Fear me! Bow before me!" Her voice reached a shriek as once more, Sin grew in size. Her breath hot enough to boil blood and blister skin, the tentacles more numerous by the second. Eyes flashing red and white and then back to red. Anything to cause more of a reaction.

"You are scum! You are nothing but scum beneath me! I should devour you whole!" Beneath it all, far beneath it, was a cry to not forget her.

If nothing else, the shriek had him flinch and make a face. Ow. That was loud. Unfortunately for Sin, this really wasn't anything he hadn't seen before. The suddenness was startling, causing him to slide back slightly though. He probably could bow, would likely make the situation better. But he would much rather keep her in sight, given the sudden shift in her demeanor. It would be safer, as far as his knowledge went.

"I mean, can't really do anything to stop you," that much was true, at least, even if his hand instinctively rested against where his gun was holstered. It didn't really help his nervousness. "But wouldn't it be better to actually have a conversation? Or at least have someone you know can speak a more comfortable language with you."

I love the concept of sutures. Like there was a time in history where someone looked at a wound that could not close on its own, that nature itself had deemed to be lethal, and just went "well how about I just sew it close fuck you."

If nature didn't want us flipping it off, it shouldn't have given us fingers.
