We're part of a small multiple system. Only two of us bother with tumblr (the others are wiser than we are). We don't really care to specify who it is on here most of the time, but if you know us, you'd probably be able to tell.
Mayfly (it/its): system steward, nonhuman and inhuman freak, constantly angry, loves the world so much it's a problem. If you see any politically-charged rants, that's Mayfly.
Aka (ae/aem): clown therian*, most of aes identity is determined in the moment based on what's funniest. Silly, whimsical, affirms aes gender identity by making typos in every sentence. Best friends with every single crustacean.
*This is a joke!
We're queer, aroace, intersex, fat, non-binary, neurodivergent, physically disabled, and alterhuman in several ways.
We're an adult (close to 30) but we're fine with minors following / interacting. We've been hanging out in online communities since we were 14, so interacting with younger folks is fine with us - we chatted with adults plenty as a teen, no reason we'd find the inverse uncomfortable.
Other presently-active blogs we have right now:
@words-of-wolf (Mayfly's therianthropy sideblog)
@encyclope-dae-a (shared daemonism sideblog)
#cave wall handprint is our art reblog tag (we think it's genius and get a little emotional if we think about it too hard)
#mayfly has opinions is our tag for Mayfly's various opinions on things, mostly political and usually radical in some way or another. Warning: may piss you off.
On the odd occasion we post / reblog any sex-related stuff (generally it's gonna be either jokes, sex ed or political in some way) we'll endeavour to tag it appropriately so you can filter if you want. Usual tags are #nsft and #sex ed.
We try to tag common triggers (e.g. #racism, #csa, #eyestrain).
We reblog a lot of bugs and often don't tag those, with the exception of parasites (usually #parasite).
Stances on some stuff below, so you can figure out if you hate us easy!
Endogenic systems are awesome and syscourse is bigotry.
Infinite love and compassion for folks with schizospec disorders, OCD, and personality disorders. You all deserve so much.
Nonbinary genders are awesome, xenogenders are awesome, trans women are awesome, trans men are awesome, gender non-conformity is awesome.
In this house we love allies. I think we need more straight cis perisex people at Pride actually.
Listen to intersex people now.
Being fat is cool and awesome. Fatphobia is real and awful. Listen to fat advocates now.
Children are people who deserve respect and autonomy. I don't actually give a fuck if teens watch porn. Learn about ageism.
Censorship and surveillance are inherently fascist.
White americans need to shut up every now and then and remember the rest of the world exists.
There are no ontologically evil people.
To be privileged means you have power, not that you are evil. To be oppressed means you lack power, not that you are good. You have to make the choice to do good. There is no trait or quality you could have that will do that work for you.
Everyone deserves the chance to learn to be better. Yes, even those people.
The penal justice system is gross and doesn't work. Punishment as a whole also doesn't work. Abolish prisons, ACAB.
Cultural appreciation is important. Learning about and engaging with other cultures, including practices you are invited to participate in, is the most anti-racist thing you can do.
Pro Indigenous rights and land-back.
Everyone needs to love Black people more and especially Black trans people. Everyone say thank you Black people.
Jewish folks are awesome. Shout out to all our Jewish friends!
Love the oppressed more than you hate the oppressor, or else.
Fuck generative AI (analytic AI is cool though).
Love the world.
Be angry and loud and obnoxiously righteous.
It's not too late. We have to keep trying. It's not too late.
Shipping discourse is so absurd I'm not even going to comment beyond saying that you have got to find some better cause to put your heart behind. Please. There's so many options that actually mean something. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen or something, I'm begging you.
a lot of people assume psychosis hallucinations are super intense all-consuming horror movie shit like the memes about the hat man or always horrible debilitating things that make you dangerous to be around
but in my experience 95% of my hallucinations are getting spooked by very clearly hearing someone knocking on my door or calling my name from another room or hearing footsteps walking behind me which are "just" my brain recreating the horror of an abusive childhood
i *have* gotten the "bugs crawling all over me" hallucination once or twice though and yeah that one is exactly as terrible horrible as it sounds AUGH
(not trying to put you on blast specifically, you're just a good example to jump off of)
media and pop culture hypes up psychosis a lot as The Worst That Can Happen out of sanism, so even when you try and filter that cultural bias out you still assume it's based on something
when, no, psychosis is actually very simple: it's just hyperactive pattern matching. it's your brain's signal-to-noise ratio being off balance, it's seeing images in random static. it's not always this special uniquely big thing, it's in fact quite mundane a lot of the time.
no one is immune to psychosis, it's not purely the realm of the insane. anyone is one bad night of sleep or one bad case of food poisoning or one bad fever away from being just like me on my worst days.
and this, indeed, is why solidarity with the insane is so important: you, yes you too, are just one bad day from joining us, and no perceptions of being a "temporarily embarrassed sane person" will save you from the oppression of the psychiatric institution.
Anyone else have comfort Topics That Make You Mad?
As in, it pisses you off but in such a meaningless way that it just lets you blow off steam and not get all bogged down or anything. Something you hate, but recreationally.
I have a few, but my main one is Fallout 4. It's a very good game to hate. Old enough to not be politically relevant anymore, stupid enough that you have a hundred different angles to choose from with different levels of severity and intensity.
Today's wasp of the day is the jewel oak gall wasp (Acraspis quercushirta)!
Credits: photo 1, photo 2
Formerly called Acraspis macrocarpae, this extra round nugget is like many gall wasps and has generations that alternate between sexual and asexual reproduction. In spring, both male and female wasps will emerge after overwintering in their galls and go on to lay eggs on oak leaves that will induce their own galls. With the falling of autumn leaves, out from the now detached galls pops the wingless females who will trek to another tree to asexually lay more eggs that will overwinter to become the next spring batch.
Alternating between sexual and asexual reproduction is a special type of what is referred to as "cyclical parthenogenesis". Many animals (notably some insects and reptiles) resort to this as a way to stretch out and conserve genetic resources when environmental factors are less than ideal. What makes oak gall wasps special is the very structured pattern of it they follow.
I don't know who my intended audience is here, so whoever needs to hear this, I am begging you to learn to participate in conversations that are about things you aren't interested in.
Part of socializing and having friends is being a good listener even when you don't actually give a shit about the subject.
Your are hurting other people's feelings when you bluntly respond with "Anyway..." and then change the topic.
It can not always be about your preferred topic.
You are being rude. Yes, even if you are neurodivergent. You can be both autistic and rude.
i had a dream last night that the entire world used a currency (?) called angrypennies which as the name implies are obtained by experiencing anger. the stronger and more intense your anger was, the more angrypennies you'd gain. an all-consuming rage would earn you more than a slight irritation, etc. so people were always searching for ways to fuel their anger and purposefully keeping themselves angry all the time because they wanted to earn angrypennies. unclear if angrypennies could be exchanged for goods and services, or if they were just a collectible.
anyway, as if this wasn't heavy-handed enough, at one point british comedian greg davies appeared and explained that angrypennies couldn't be worth feeling angry all the time. this was a real revelation to dream-me and i was finally able to break free of the angrypenny grind and allow myself to experience emotions other than anger.
it goes without saying that i will be using the word angrypenny as if it was part of the common vernacular instead of a term that my dreaming brain conjured up i.e. "he's all about the angrypennies" (derogatory way to refer to a guy who searches for reasons to be angry and possibly lacks introspection)
I love visiting people who have some kind of pet reptile because they're always like "would you like to hold the reptile" and I'm like "of course I would" and then the rest of the conversation happens with me just holding a random reptile and the reptile Has No Feelings about the situation. They always just sit there, probably vaguely wishing to return to their heat lamp but clearly exuding an energy of This Might As Well Happen. and then I put it back in its enclosure and go home and the reptile very clearly has no strong feelings about the situation.
very 🥰🥰🥰 when musicians leave bits in songs where they're saying 'is this thing on?' or 'it's still recording y'know.' chairs scraping, retuning guitars, saying 'let's do that bit again', 'was that take any good?'
