Heya. I'm Mod Damien (any pronouns). I took over this blog a while ago and didn't update the intro post up until now. I'm AGABless and AGABpunk. I also use neoAGABs as a way of obscuring whatever my "legal" AGAB is in situations where I have to give an AGAB for some reason.

If anyone else wants to become a mod, feel free to DM me!

This is a new our-experience blog for anyone who considers themselves AGABpunk! AGABpunk is a broad term that involves rejecting the concept of AGAB as it is currently used and reinventing it for oneself. It includes AFAB transfems, AMAB transmascs, transmascfems, AFAB cis men, AMAB cis women, those who self-assign their AGAB, those who use neoAGABs and xenoAGABs, AGABless people, and so much more! My header is the AGAB non-conforming flag because there is no AGABpunk flag, which is also why my icon is just the default icon.

You can submit experiences starting with “My AGABpunk experience is…”, but you can also start them with a specific identity under the AGABpunk umbrella, such as “My AMAB transmasc experience is…”, “My AFAB cis man experience is…”, “My S-AFAB experience is…”, “My ASAB (Assigned Sleepy At Birth) experience is…”, or “My AGABless experience is…”. You can also include another identity in your ask, like “My bisexual AGABpunk experience is…”, “My plural AFAB transfem experience is…”, or “My AGABless transmasc experience is…”

Some ground rules:

1- Intersex people are pretty much the founders of the AGABpunk and AGAB non-conforming community, and continue to be some of its most important members. Intersexism is very much not welcome here. For a look at what casual intersexism in the queer community looks like, check out these posts:

2- However, intersex people are not the only members of the AGABpunk community. There are many reasons that perisex people would feel connected to the community and the labels under it. Gatekeeping is not welcome here, whether it’s gatekeeping the AGABpunk label itself or any of the labels in its umbrella. Both intersex and perisex AGABpunk people are important.

3- Another big reason people identify as AGABpunk is plurality. For that reason, I want this blog to be a safe space for all plurals. I will block anti-endos. Attempts to start syscourse here will also be blocked. I want all plurals of all origins to feel safe here. And I cannot do that while welcoming anti-endos.

I am not accepting any bigotry or discourse around labels (unless it's to do with certain labels like 'transintersex').

A note on AFAB transfems and AMAB transmascs: In the past I was accused of supporting the “fetishization of trans people by cis people” by supporting these labels. I was also told that I clearly didn’t think trans women were real women and trans men were real men for supporting them. These are both wild conclusions to draw. Mostly because they’re not true. Why does the existence of AFAB transfems and AMAB transmascs imply either of those things? If you repeat these arguments, I will assume you don’t actually understand what you’re talking about.

A note on self-assignment, neoAGABs, and xenoAGABs: I was also told that these terms were making light of an oppressive system by claiming that you could just be whatever AGAB you want and that AGAB wasn’t about what your doctor wrote down. That they harm the ability of people to talk about the way people are oppressively categorized into a sex binary. Which I understand. I do think that some uses of the terms come off as insensitive. But I also think that there are good-faith ways of using them. That claiming that they are bad in all contexts is harmful. I will continue to assume good faith with them. But I understand the opposition.

For the love of all things holy, please stop referring to anatomy as "Afab and Amab" anatomy. Call it a penis. Call it a vagina. Say uterus. Say peope with penises, people with vulvas, people with uteruses. Please, AFAB anatomy and AMAB anatomy means nothing.

So, Ive seen some real extreme piss on the poor takes in the reblog, and Id like to add my own to the conversation in support of Kova (hope you can keep taking your break and focusing on your health this way!)

AGAB means Assigned Gender At Birth. It refers to a specific point in time, when a person is born, and the arbotrary decision of a doctor to put a certain gender on the birth certificate. Full stop. It says nothing else. Let's see some of the arguments Ive seen in the reblogs:

"it only says whether you have a penis or a vulva" now that's not true. While that is what doctors try and base their guess of a baby's sex on, it hardly means that they are able to recognise "correctly" whether it's a vulva or a penis, especially because of the existence of intersex people who have genitals that don't fit in either category.

"it says what education you got, what you were raised as" again, not true. The gender you are assigned at birth doesn't dictate how you will be raised nor how others will perceive you and treat you as. Yes, people who are perceived to be a certain gender get treated a certain way, because of sexism, but it doesnt correspond to their assigned gender at birth.

"agab is important because it tells you how the world interacts with you", no, see above ^

"agab is useful for discussing misogyny" <- transphobic argument 101. It's not useful, see above, and to claim that it can say anything about who faces misogyny is transmisogynistic as misogyny isn't restricted to people with a certain agab.

"it says what gender you were assigned at birth, not your sex" correct! However that's not how people use it, and this is what op is criticizing. People use agab to refer to what genitals they have, both obscuring intersex people and assigning sex to agab, which is just plain false. Like it doesn't correspond with reality.

"we dont need to talk about agab at all" it's more complicated than that. While it is wildly misused by both the trans and medical community, it's absolutely an event worth discussing, especially in the way it correlates with corrective surgeries performed on babies and forcing kids to go on hormones to conform to whatever gender they have been assigned. Being assigned a certain gender at birth is an event that happens to everyone, we cant just decide not to discuss it at all, it just needs to be done with care and awareness of the nuances and varieties of experiences people have.

"we dont need to talk about genitals at all" kind of a wild take. Yes, when talking about gender, you dont *need* to talk about genitals. But if you're discussing medical transition for example, it's absolutely imperative that you do. Imagine saying "transitioning to be amab" that would be extremely contradictory and useless. "Transitioning into a male body" intersexist and transphobic, because there isnt a "male body". "Transitioning into having a penis and no brests" now I understand what you are saying and you arent spreading messages that convey bigoted rethoric, even if it wasn't your intention. Also if you want to warn people about cancer, like breast cancer or prostate cancer, you will need to discuss genitals. It's not something we can ignore.

Also additional take Ive seen: "we need agab to mean genitals because some people are uncomfortable saying what genitals they have or used to have". Listen. I understand the intense dysphoria or embarrassment someone might have from having to discuss their genitals. Im sorry to say it's inevitable. Not in a "suck it up" way, but it is not possible to avoid that discomfort or pain. Im really sorry. I myself am someone who feels like dying everytime I have to utter any genital related word, I get it! It's hard and uncomfortable, but there is no way to avoid it. Choose another name for the body part and you will create either a euphemism treadmill or be incomprehensible to others. That's why we need to teach children the names of genitals, it helps prevent child abuse and assault. We cant decide not to because it's uncomfortable.

And in online conversations about being trans and the trans community, we owe it to intersex people and other trans people to be clear with our language and not throw them under the bus because of our dysphoria.

also if we're talking about intersexism then lets talk about afab/amab. these terms were coined by the intersex community to put a name to our experiences of being incorrectly, nonconsensually, and often violently assigned a sex at birth. all afab/amab are SUPPOSED to mean is that the doctor looked at your external genitalia when you were born and decided you were male or female. ASAB TERMINOLOGY DOES NOT MEAN OR EVEN IMPLY THAT SOMEONE IS "BORN" OR "BIOLOGICALLY" A SEX. and we dont mind when perisex trans people use those terms! they were also incorrectly, nonconsensually, and often violently assigned a sex at birth and for most of their lives! the issue is that perisex trans and queer people have now changed the definition of afab/amab to mean "biologically/born female/male," which was not EVER the point of those terms. you can be afab and be born with xy chromosomes and no uterus, you can be afab and be born with a penis, you can be amab and be born with xx chromosomes, because all that afab and amab mean is that your doctor either looked at your external genitalia or forcibly surgically altered your external genitalia at the time of your birth and assigned you male or female based off of that. which is that, while i was technically afab in the sense that a doctor looked at my external genitalia and decided that i was female, i was not "born" female, i was born intersex. and you FUCKING PEOPLE have made this bastardized definition so mainstream that im having to fill out a referral for bottom surgery and it asks, "what is your assigned gender at birth" and i dont know WHAT to put because they are almost definitely using it as a "woke" way to ask if you were born male or female, but that question for me has two different answers depending on what the question actually means, cause i WAS assigned female at birth, but im biologically intersex and have ambiguous genitalia

ultimately, if you want to talk about being born a male or female, growing up a boy or girl, going through testosterone or estrogen based puberty, experiences as someone with a uterus, just say those things outright. and also, lets renormalize NOT asking trans people what sex they were "born as" by asking if theyre afab/amab. theres just no need. like i want to be charitable but im so over it

My agabless expirience is feeling absolutely ridicous both in cis and trans spaces.

I am a genderfluid (transmasc+transneu+transxenine) and I've never considered my way of discovering myself as "ftm". If anything, even before finding out im genderfluid and while thinking I'm a binary trans man, I thought it was hella weird that people are like. Outright telling people their private information by telling them a part of their life that no one is entitled to. I prefer to describe my way of self-discovery as ntmtn as in "nothing to man to nonbinary" and honestly it just feels like I'm alone in my expirience.

I've never seen anyone else apart from maybe one person even try to reject the whole concept of assigning sex/gender. It's alienating.

I'm nonbinary, and I refuse to disclose my AGAB. Being treated like my AGAB is relevant feels a bit like being deadnamed... deadgendered, if you like.

Is there a word for "I am not telling you what gender is on my birth certificate. What are you, a cop?"

I feel like Assigned [REDACTED] At Birth comes closest, but it feels like it comes over as kinda flippant. I want to convey that I'm deadly serious about this.

You could say you're AGABless. Or just simply "I'm not telling you."

I think just Transneutral by itself is absolutely an AGABpunk-aligned label (in the way of it being naturally aligned with many of the ideas AGABpunks uplift, like that not all trans people who were AFAB are automatically transmasculine and not all trans people who were AMAB are not all automatically transfeminine and such) but AGABless Transneu labels like Teabag Transneu and others DO have a reason to exist!

it is a lie/uninformed opinion to say Transneutrals are not stereotyped/unecessarily binarized like those who are Transmasc and Transfem are and thus “don‘t need AGABless or AGABpunk labels) Or that exorsexists and intersexists and all sorts of transphobes are not constantly trying to shove Transneutrality into the strict binary framework of “everyone was AFAB or was AMAB” aka rebinarizing us against our personal wills. Even other Transneu folks have an issue with constantly defining Transneutrality as being centered around one’s personal assignment.

If you are Transneumascfem (or another version of that term) you will be treated in negative ways similar to those who are Transmascfem/Transfemmasc. People will be exorsexist towards you and will try to “transvestigate” what you were assigned (aka your “true sex” even if they don‘t wish to say the bigoted part out loud)

If you are intersex aphroflux, with one of the modalities you flux being Transneutral, you will be treated the same, with even more intersexism thrown into the mix.

If you are assignmentflux (if this is not a term i‘m coining it. i’ll elaborate more if needed but aphroflux & it‘s synonymous labels are intersex-exclusive so i’m using one open to perisex/questioning ppl) and sometimes you are Transneutral, but other times you are Cisneutral, or Trisneutral, or Modalityless (if that‘s not a thing i’m also coining that), you will be treated in similar ways to Aphroflux ppl.

If you are intersex Transneutral (or Ulterneutral) you will have intersexists claiming you cannot identify as that because they believe you are “cis nonbinary” or some other bullshit based off of intersexist myths which center around the sex binary and how “AGAB” is weaponized/binarized. This is why one of my friends uses AGABless Transneu labels.

(Just because some of these are combination terms or “complex”, does not mean they are any “less” Transneutral. There is no one Transneu experience. None of us are “more” Transneu than the others.)

i mean fuck even originally in the 2010s “trans/MOGAI discourse” you had exorsexists trying to shove Transneus into “okay but are you feminine-aligned or masculine-aligned” to determine if some Transneus were “allowed” to be MLM or WLW. especially if we asserted we were not NBLM or NBLW. if you refused to disclose that or did not center your identity around assignment/alignment you were called a transphobic homophobe (lumped in with many aspecs who were also being targeted)

Similar to those with certain genders (like demiboys/demimen and demigirls/demiwomen), we face many issues in irl spaces because of how assignment is conceptialized and held up as this “immutable destiny“ type binary (by a majority-perisex community)

transneus who are assumed to have been AMAB are treated like “invading cis (binary) men” if they are lesbian or sapphic or even just enter very binary trans spaces (where they are also often assumed to be a binary women or “transfem/MTF in denial” regardless of their actual identity) and if they are assumed to have been AFAB they are treated like “invading trans (binary) men” (or “butches in denial” and thus treated like a GNC but very much binary women)

transneus who are assumed to have been AFAB are treated like “invading cis (binary) women” if they are gay or achillean or even just enter very binary trans spaces (where they are also often assumed to be a binary man or “transmasc/FTM in denial” regardless of their actual identity) and if they are assumed to have been AMAB they are treated like “invading trans (binary) women” (or “femme gay men in denial” and thus treated like a GNC but very much binary man)

the most common flag i‘ve seen used for transneus isn’t even a transneutral flag? not only was it based off of two of the oldest/most popular transfem and transmasc flags (which were actually trans girl and trans boy flags originally) and maintain the two outer stripes of those flags which represent assignment (or “assumption“) at birth of having been AFAB if you are a trans boy or having been AMAB if you are a trans girl....

(*not putting either slur down. you can substitute F or M. yes the one with F marker is used more right now by exorsexists but the other exists too. both just the equivalent of calling someone ”female nonbinary“ or ”male nonbinary“ or even as ”TIF“ / ”NBIF“ or ”TIM“ / ”NBIM“. Even if it‘s an acronym it’s gross to call others ”females“ and ”males“ especially if they do not use those terms to elaborate on their identity, or find them dysphoric, especially if ”transvestigating“ anyone online)

along with these issues and prevailing stereotypes, ”binary to non-binary“ or ”FTN“ or ”MTN“ are used and centered in most definitions despite not actually describing many transneus. so of course i am going to use an explicitly AGABless, AGABpunk, ”fuck your sex binary and fuck birth assignment. these mean NOTHING to me“ Transneu label. I AM tired of Transneutrality always having to come back to an assignment that has nothing to do with it. I transitioned to further embody my own internal neutrality and i am Transneu because it describes that and my own years long history of being in the Trans community along with my solidarity with every single Trans person i know.

(i would still do so even if i lived in an alternate timeline where transneutrality wasn‘t treated/viewed like this though. just showing my support for other trans people and the idea of a future where assignment means jack and hopefully, does not exist alongside the sex binary, is enough)

this one is more vent-y/personal. never had the chance to get this all out before? sorry but also not sorry because i know i‘m not alone in this. i’ve talked about it in private for years and years. i‘m not the only one fed up but i do have the spoons to ramble for a bit

2. wanna clarify my tone is upset but not at anon! i‘ve been here forever. actually before transneu was coined and even before that. my anger is at the supposed “queerest place on the net!” for doing this shit and then burying it (because most don‘t give a fuck when they’re the ones harassing other marginalized folk. website full of people who wish they could have been highschool bullies/mean girls sooo bad. or they were and never grew outta it)

i’ve seen every. single. one. of labels meant to “break the binary!” or “solve issues” with a synonymous older one go through binarization and also be labeled as “problematic”/dumped/scorned for another shiny new label one of them coined.... only for it to be treated the exact same way in a later “discourse cycle”! it‘s always tied to assignment in some way that doesn’t help anyone or actually weaken/destroy the sex binary.

always tied to a new “progressive” binary (or a trinary if you‘re feeling ~dangerous~ today) which doesn’t actually unbinarize everyone. always predicated on internalized stereotypes, always silently upholding the binary. let me attempt to summarize that for everyone who wasn‘t around or doesn’t dig around in ancient blogs going beyond even 2010 or 2011.

calling trans people females and males and female-bodied and male-bodied is bad for multiple reasons (<- not sarcasm: this is true and real btw. back to sarcasm.), so use MTF and FTM and (C)AFAB/FAAB and (C)AMAB/MAAB! oh those don‘t fit you either and still have the same issues? just use transfeminine and transmasculine! (we will still be calling you AFAB and AMAB though because transmasc = “AFAB trans” and transfem = “AMAB trans” and you need to be transitioning the “right way” for your box. asking not to be put in or get out of the box is literally the worst thing you can do btw)

oh none of those worked for you or you never used them? they still have the same issues anyway? and you‘ve got an experience that isn’t only “binary gender-conforming always and totally a (wo)man?” so you’re genderqueer? well queer is a slur and genderqueer is for AFABs and it could let those yucky cis men who do drag into our sacred community (which is also why we dropped Trans*, didn‘t you know drag is a mockery of Real Women?) so you should be using nonbinary instead. oh sorry, turns out nonbinary is actually bad as well because it lets “transtrenders” and “they*abs” pretend to be trans. “men in dresses” and “women who want to be special” are NOT trans. stop trying to let those faker cis people into the trans community!!!

if you don‘t put your real sex assignment in your bio the way I like it than you’re literally HURTING ME. we need to know what you actually are for the sake of protecting the community! what do you mean you‘re not using that label the way i do? you must be trying to assault me because you’re not a real (wo)man like i am you‘re implying i’m not my identity! words have meanings so don‘t even think about making new ones!

missing a lot but that‘s just. how it’s felt to be on here for years and years. so fuck the sex binary. fuck the gender binary. and fuck any attempted trinary used to placate anyone. i‘ve always been myself and what my junk MIGHT have looked like as a literal baby means nothing. how i MIGHT have been raised or what i might have been called at different points means nothing. fuck the faux-progressive idea that you need to know what’s in my pants or what MIGHT have been at some point. fuck your own internal biases that you project onto people when you hear them use certain terms. eliminate assignment NOW. prosecute every single doctor and hospital and government that ever performed or even SUGGESTED IGM in the name of upholding any binary.

eliminate exorsexism and the systems that make it so a doctor can look at an (arbitrary) assignment and decide that someone “isn‘t trans enough” to recieve healthcare just because “[someone AMAB] would always want breasts” or “[someone AFAB]”.

Eliminate assignment so that regardless of modality, no one will face scrutiny or disgust for needing things like a breast cancer screening or a visit to a “”“women‘s health”“” clinic for any reason.

Eliminate assignment because insurance companies use it to arbitrarily deny needing life saving care (transition-related but also for everyone with all screenings, check-ups, all forms of hormonal medications, etc.) and medical staff will ignore crucial information on charts (ex. total hystorectomy, taking any kind of hormone therapy, having gone through medical trauma, being intersex and agenitalspec, etc.) in favor of what they assume based on recorded assignment.

AGABpunk should include and is for EVERYONE ALWAYS FOREVER because we are ALL affected by the bullshit that comes from assignment plus everything interlocking with it. In a million visible and invisible ways it fucks everything over. I don‘t think a singular person should be excluded from it (or a single label because most if not all have these issues, which is why i am also fine with AGABless cis modalities and AGABpunk labels that aren’t even modality labels like the AGABpunk gender and presentation labels i‘ve seen floating around.)

Hey there! Gonna start off by saying, I'm just getting some frustrations off my chest, at this point I'm just irritated and don't understand how things work fully, KIND criticism and feedback will be accepted and read. Even with the opinions stated, I think people should use whatever the hell labels they want, even if I personally don't like it

I fucking hate the chocolate chip transneutral, or whatever transneutral equivalents there are for honeybee transfem and coffee bean transmasc. A main reason honeybee transfem and coffee bean transmasc labels exist is because people automatically assume you're afab if you're transmasc or amab if you're transfem. They're tearing down those harmful stereotypes by making agabpunk versions.

There are no such stereotypes around transneutral people. People don't automatically assume your agab based on that label alone. It just pisses me off because it feels like they saw our labels and were like "I wanna be included too!" without thinking about why the labels actually exist. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, feels very pick me.

Again, I'm of a very Inclusionist and "live and let live" mindset. If someone wants to use that label, it's none of my fucking business, and I'm not going to ask why they use it or bring it up unless they do. I'm coffee bean transmasc, and I'd be irritated if every damn person who didn't understand my label got on my ass about using it. Even if I don't like it, I see keeping my damn mouth shut as basic decency, which is why this opinion probably won't be stated anywhere else or off anon.

If anyone wants to explain why the transneutral equivalent labels exist or why they use them feel free to. I'll keep track of the notes on this post. Thank you for listening to my rant.

I've seen this argument a couple of times, and honestly? I'll have to disagree (though I appreciate you being civil about it).

First of all it's not just about whether people associate AGAB with a label or not, it's also about denying the idea of AGAB in the first place, like these are useful even for transneutral people.

Secondly, people do associate transneutral people with an agab. Just not to a huge extent. There's a reason why "theyfab" exists and many queer spaces get labelled for "femmes and thems", and enbies who aren't AFAB get ignored most of the time. (Of course, not all transneutral people are nonbinary, but exorsexism tends to impact them too).

So no, I don't think transneutral people just "wanna be included" too. Honestly, I really question how you got to that conclusion, because even if transneutral people did not have AGAB forced on them at all, there's nothing wrong with them joining the AGABpunk movement (which you acknowledge and yet the label "leaves a bad taste in [your] mouth").

Gonna quickly ask this as a follow-up because this is something I'm also intrigued to hear opinions about:

If you are against neoAGABs/xenoAGABs, is it to do with people using it as an identity, people specifically using AGAB (ie. if it was something like OSAB - observed sex at birth - it would be better), some combination of the two, or neither?

I'm asking because (as I've said multiple times) I use them as a placeholder for having to give an AGAB (if I don't just put nothing down) and that's not a usage that gets mentioned a lot.
