Hi there 🌱 I hope you are doing well. My name is Naser, and I’m from Gaza. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, but I wanted to share a piece of my story — because right now, it’s the only way I know to try and survive.

This war has changed everything. I lost my mother and my sister. Our home is gone. What used to be a normal life — school, family meals, laughter — has been replaced by fear, rubble, and silence.

Now, I’m displaced with my three younger brothers. I’ve become their protector, their parent, their hope. We sleep side by side and I try to make them feel safe, even when I’m scared too.

We are trying to raise funds to rebuild our lives — to find a safe place, to go back to school, to have something to believe in again. I dream of going to university. My brothers have their own dreams too — of being a doctor, an engineer, just being kids again.

I think I'm demiromantic. I used to think I was alloromantic until I met my partner and what I felt for them felt so different from all the other feelings I thought were crushes. It's so hard to figure out though because most "figuring out your orientation" resources are targeted towards people who are dating/in new relationships and not towards people in long-term, especially monogamous relationships because that way it's hard to even properly remember anything before, especially if none of it ever ended up in a relationship. The more time passes the harder it is to remember, the less I can try and even remotely compare other feelings to how I feel about my partner, the more I doubt my experience, the less confidently I can say that I'm aromantic or alloromantic. How do you all figure this out like? I don't understand love at first sight or enemies to lovers, I feel alienated from a lot of conventional ideas of romance (but I'm also ace, enby, childfree and maybe bi). I don't know anymore. I hate questioning.

Im going to add some ace/biace tags in here, because it crosses over and those folks may be able to offer advice, too!

my demiromantic experience is realising that i originally entered my romantic relationship out of a need for intimacy and a trauma response of latching on to people, and only developed clear romantic attraction later and feeling like a horrible person for it, like i cheated my way into it, even though this was nearly 10 years ago and i'm more stable now

What do you all think about the alternative "only experiences secondary romantic attraction" definition of demiromantic? It's not super widely talked about but I find it personally useful because emotions and emotional connection is way harder for me to grasp.

the blog fully supports this definition. I've mentioned it before, but can't find it now. Respectful conversation in the comments is encouraged but we don't allow exclusion.

woah woah woah what do you mean you still want to say your opinion? demi and greyros 100% count as aromantic and we don't discriminate on this blog no sir!!

having said that - yeah, it sucks how little representation for any kind of nuanced aro experience there is in the media, but i promise there are people out there who share your experiences!! i myself am greyro, cale is demiro and there are loads of tumblr blogs you could check out - try @our-demiromantic-experience or @greyro-problems, or the greyromantic and demiromantic tags on tumblr to see what the community is up to :)

My demiromantic experience is feeling less attached with the label after experiencing heavy phobia towards aroace individuals and specifically people telling me demi isn't real and always having to explain myself.

Even other LGBT+ people do this.

this is my demiromantic experience. its just gonna be me yapping about how i fell in love with my boyfriend who is also demiromantic.

i met him a year and five months ago in school. he clicked with me automacially in my opinion; same sense of humor, similair likes, and just got along very easily. he helped me accept the fact i am transgender so i hold him high on my respect and admiration list. he's such a funny, sweet boy and i just adored him. slowly i fell in love with him i guess.

i was very confused at first, because ever since 7th grade i always thought myself to be aroace but now i was falling for my best friend. what made it offical of my attraction towards him was when i went over to his house and we cuddled and watched funny videos. that was literally the cracking point of me confirming mentally that "yup. im in love with this boy. the only person ive ever romantically liked in my life."

the day after he sent me a message asking if we were dating. and we talked about it and thats when we offically started dating.

it's been nearly five months now since we started dating. and i have never been more happier in my life. he is such a fun person to be around and i couldnt have asked for a better boyfriend ever.

My demiromantic experience was never "falling in love with my best friend" because i've never had a real close friend. my demiromantic experience was super hard to figure out because trauma means i don't really get close to people. My demiromantic experience is really hard to figure out still because I've not had a crush on anyone since being with my partner so it's all based on hindsight. My demiromantic experience is hard to figure out because sometimes I do het close to people and want to be around them but i dont know what exactly constitutes romantic attraction. i want to have deep conversations with people at night by the beach watching the full moon, getting to know their mind and passions and interests and how they work. I'm desperate to know people especially those i kinda hyper fixate on but i don't know if that is romantic attraction. if someone could help that would be great <2

I learned I was asexual in November, then in the spring I was starting to question my gender and romantic identity. I started looking into panromantic. And I liked that, but something still felt off. I knew what demiromantic was but I started doing more research to understand it. I was very confused for about 2 month. Then I really stared to think and I realized I hated the thought of trying to date someone I don’t know, or even someone I slightly knew, I didn’t understand it. I eventually realized I was demiromantic, I’m still trying to really come to terms with it, but I’m getting better

i first though I was aro because I never had crushes but Im pretty sure I'm demi since I've had crushes on 2 of my friends (which have mostly sizzled out) but still I find it kinda funny because I learned the term demiromantic from a wikihow quiz. Yes, a f--king wikihow quiz.

I am not sure if I am demiromantic or not (I believe I am at least somewhere in arospec), but in some way demi qualities or demi material?...I'm wondering if there is something like that.

The reason I don't know if I'm demiromantic or not is because I don't really want to date anyone or kiss anyone or marry anyone or seek anything sexual. But I often seek a deep bond or a built-up kinship and, although it's few and far between, when I can build those relationships, they always seem to be sitting in the corner of my head. And there have been times in the past when I've surprised myself with my devotion to people who mean a lot to me.

Whether this is romance or not, there are times when I think, "Wow, am I a demi?😳" .

i suddenly feel huge impostorism about not being bi enough. i've known i was ace since forever and realised i was bi+ while in the monog relationship i'm still in today, not by actually being romantically attracted to people but because i realised i could technically picture myself with a partner of any gender (i know the potential for attraction to more than one gender is a definition of bi). once i admitted that to myself i actually started feeling physical attraction to people, thinking i wasn't ace after all for a bit. everything fell apart when i learned about other kinds of attraction and realised the physical attraction wasn't sexual but sensual, more in a "i'd make out with this person" way than a hugging and cuddling way because the last 2 are romantic to me. that's also when i realised i'm on the aromantic spectrum because i only ever experienced romantic attraction to one person who ended up being my partner to this day. and now here's the thing. my bi attraction has become less defined kinda? it's less about kissing now and more just feeling drawn to someone based on appearance but it feels like more than what people describe as aesthetic attraction? the attraction i feel is also not really anything i feel an urge to act on, it's just there. idk maybe that's because i'm in a monog relationship so my brain shut itself off from that. when i feel that attraction it does feel decidedly queer/bi though idk. i'd also feel like a liar calling myself biromantic because despite the potential for attraction definition i've only ever felt romantic attraction once towards one gender. i feel like i'm not bi enough and like i'm just holding on to this identity even though it doesn't actually belong to me, like i'm just making it into more than it is because what if it's always been nothing more but aesthetic attraction, not actually me being bi, what if the queer feelings about this attraction are just me trying to convince myself i'm bi when i'm not.
