I questioned was the best thing to work a full time job and have the children in full time child care or stay at home and cut the cost of child care, or perhaps do part-time work and juggle both responsibilities?

Why own a business? Being a mother and earning an income is why you should own a business.

There is no doubt that the world of careers are changing.  Years ago, you worked for one company and the company was your career. You worked hard and faithfully and the company rewarded you for your commitment and service.  It is a bit laughable to think about earning a living like that now.

Enough was enough.  I was really lucky and took a redundancy.   I started looking at a businesses, I wanted a business to give me the things I was after, so, why own a business?

Ready to make the change to shop local? Why is it important to shop local?

It is inevitable that our society and economic conditions will change, and they are changing.  As they say, change is the only constant in our lives.  The world’s largest companies grow, and continue to grow and have a firm grip on the supply and marketing of goods.  To prove how much of a firm grip there is, let’s discuss a scenario.

Let’s say the scenario is around the company that develops the world’s best apple juice, not only is brand X the best flavour, it contains the least amount of preservatives and comes within a dollar of the leading brand.  How would you market it?

The large grocery chains wouldn’t even let you in store due to supply agreements in place with their huge supplier companies and unless you are will to sell the brand X apple juice to the grocery to market as their own, there is no way to get on the shelf.

When the large grocery stores market their own products they generally take the top selling product and have their analysts calculate the ingredients and remake the product as their own with using their own ingredients.  Generally the grocery can produce the product cheaper, with paying less for ingredients and can sell for a higher profit.

So quality of product is the first reason you should shop local.

The second reason is that when you shop local and support those in your community, the support comes back to you.  

Local businesses are able to participate in fundraising and assist with donations for local causes.  The money spent on products bought when you shop local (usually a better quality product) the money goes back to ordinary people, not the huge companies that receive a staggering amount of money in turnover and profit.  The large companies have policies in place, and can’t support local charities, schools and local sport.
