spring in london on film!
in a large sense scarcity is a necessity for true happiness as it gives the human the ability to savor, to find beauty, meaning, etc. If my every desire is met then what is the point of living? I am thankful when I do not receive what I want, only so that I can sink deeply into presence when I do. I think that we must allow suffering to find us, we must sometimes accept lack, and know that it's all part of the rhythm too.
in a way john watson is a fantasy (what if you had this brilliant enigmatic friend and what if he liked you in particular and what if he offered you the excitement of youth and adventures and a way out of boring society life and all without having to actually give up your status as a gentleman so you could have the best of both worlds) and in a way sherlock holmes is a fantasy (what if someone never got tired of you despite your various strange habits and mood swings and instead of simply tolerating you they genuinely liked you and what if you didnโt have to live alone forever and what if you never had to give up doing the things you love) and of course thereโs the most fantastical part of it all (what if you could afford london housing prices)

I SAW THIS IN THE PORTLAND ART MUSEUM! ITS HUGE!
it shimmers like no gemstones i've ever seen: green as malachite and emerald but shot through with opal, gold, copper. photographs can't do it justice because of how it shines, as well as the way the actual material elements have their own dimensions. you can lean in and study all the fine lines of the circuits or step back and admire how the rearranged whole forms new patterns. it's one of the most beautiful creations i've ever seen.
cheese sits on the toilet while we take showers, and i like to stand on my tip toes and draw his silhouette in the steam from a high angle, then stand back to see how warped it is from his actual shape

Felix Gonzalez-Torresโsย Untitled (Perfect Lovers), 1991
[The work] consists of a pair of inexpensive, plain-faced wall clocks, ticking away side by side. The instructions for installation insist that the two be set at exactly the same time, but because of their imprecise mechanisms, it is only a short time before one of the clocks falls a second or two behind the other. โThe beauty of the piece is that it is a very perfect image of what a couple is, trying to stay on the same page but never actually being able to,โ says Molesworth. (via)
Gonzalez-Torres dedicated the work to his lover Ross Laycock, who died of an AIDS-related illness the same year.
reminder to visit museums, even if you feel out of place. you feel out of place because there is an established concept of inaccessibility of "high culture" to the masses, purposefully developed to distinguish between social classes.
take up space, read the plaques, get the audioguides. you are just as entitled and right in being there. visit museums, boycott museums, be expressive about your opinions about museums.
a lot of museums are free, or discounted for youth and students. take advantage of that. check your local art museum. check your local history museum. museums are there for you, they are there to educate the public, not to distinguish between class. it isn't a private collection, it's a public exhibit.
GO TO MUSEUMS!!!!!!!
