guys be so honest, how do we think clark found out you can eat the fucking still lives
Clark saying the creatures don't feel anything and then later in the same scene the woman anomaly is seen attempting to run away from the pirate, seemingly in fear. Something something devaluation of life seen as different than him.
convinct clark au cus i think its unfair backrooms is being excluded from crossover crackship
I really did like the ending of the Backrooms 2026, actually. The twist that the Backrooms is a space that you can physically exit but a part of you mentally will always be trapped in is a great subversion and really effectively inverts the concept. The main scientist character looks directly into the camera and reveals he is still caught in the same nostalgia trap that Clark was, stuck in a repetitive motion and going nowhere. Mary got out but she's still in there. You can leave but you can never escape
i don’t think you guys understand how much i love clark
idk idk i struggled a lot with anger and emotional disregulation when i was a kid and ive spent a lot of time really mentally unwell convinced that i was a destructive force in other peoples lives or just generally resentful which in turn gave me habits that actually were destructive and his situation is just so realistic and hopeless and he’s not a good person but he knows that and he doesn’t want to change and oh my god there’s absolutely an alternate timeline where i grow into the exact kind of person he is.
his button up shirts and beaten down demeanor have captivated me
I didnt notice until rewatch but look at this.
Its the same room, the dining room is a memory of his office
if you come out of the movie with a main cast of a black man and a women both with fucked up interesting issues and i see your ass ONLY posting abt the white boy who was on screen for 10 minutes. i am actually the evil leftist who thinks your evil for that and i am going to block your ass. fuck off
The Passenger + Tumblr snek game
ok I know I seem insane for watching project hail mary for the fourth time in 10 days but I got to watch it with the directors commentary tonight and it’s incredible how much thought and love went into this film by EVERYONE. the directors, ryan gosling himself, the sound department, costumes, set production, cameras. everyone has so much pride and the story is so beloved by all. anyway here are some of my favorite things from the commentary
no one knew how to pronounce eridani (air-id-ah-ni or air-re-deni) so they just literally never said it in the film
the “good luck” at the beginning is supposed to have been written by the astronauts on the ISS who delivered ryland to the hail mary
the mop ryland was dancing with was called moppy ringwald
when ryland calls stratt after successfully breeding astrophage and he says “carl and I made a baby,” that was ryan gosling calling sandra hüller on her day off and she had no idea that’s what he was going to say. that “what” was her genuine first reaction
the scientist whom ryland called a stagnating waste of carbon was the bearded guy sitting next to him and stratt in the initial phm meeting
the idea of the soundtrack being so hopeful was supposed to be like there were two different planets cheering him on
when ryland is sitting on the beach in that don’t-go-crazy room and sees a figure walking towards him, that’s him on erid at the end. he’s seeing himselfÂ
among the markings on rocky were the petrova line mission patch, his rank, family crest, and wedding band
rocky always stamped his claw on the ground twice for a question
they wanted to make it so that eridani could have different tones. so it could be a given series of keys for one word and then you could change the frequencies for happy, sad, scared, etc.
after rocky wakes up and asks ryland if they caught the taumeoba and ryland shakes his head no and then yes, the directors went “what an odd thing to do”
ryan gosling wrapped all the gifts that ryland gave to rocky himself
the entire reason that exchange panel was put on rocky’s ball was so that ryland could pass him the little beanie earth
the movie starts with an upside down shot of ryland waking up. the epilogue starts with a right-side up shot of ryland waking up. he also makes his bed and brushes his teeth to show how time has passed LOL
their headcanon for explaining the rocky nature of the beach is that the eridians tried to emulate sand but got the scale of the grains wrong
rocky had them create a beach, and wave machine for the beach, and a tree for ryland so that he felt closer to home, but rocky was all he needed for that
I think it’s really cool that in Project Hail Mary the astrophage, which are literally killing all life by eating stars, aren’t really treated as the villain or evil? From the very start Ryland is treating it with curiosity and fascination, wanting to understand more than destroy.
One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is when he’s IN the Petrova Line, and he’s having a moment. Because it’s beautiful. It’s destroying galaxies, uncountable lives, but it’s still beautiful.
The astrophage is a problem, yes, but it’s treated as any other organism. It’s just doing what it does, because it’s also alive and happens to eat stars. Ryland is just happy to have the chance to study it because it’s from space.
i really love a lot of the comments on the phm subreddit
(canon typical discussion of suicide methods at the link)
You know, one of my favourite things about Ryland Grace is how sociable he is. How easy it is for people to fall into his orbit. They show it time and time again. How much his students obviously love him, how he manages to hype up the dour suits whilst he's testing the astrophage, Carl playing with him in the Home Depot, the other government people eating his Skittles, Eva Stratt dragging him around everywhere and allowing herself to be just that little bit more vulnerable around him, Rocky and the Eridians embracing him as not just as a savior but family.
I know it's not explicit that Grace is aroace but so often, aroace people are portrayed as distant and independent and happily isolated. Sometimes even to the point of misanthropy. It's so nice to see a character like this who loves connecting with people. He's a rambler, he's excitable. So what if he doesn't have a family or a dog. He doesn't need them because he has everyone he meets and that's enough.
me: so you see, even if andy weir says he didn't intend for your story to be political, there remains an intense underlying political message in your earth's journey to survival. hope and collaboration are just as political and perhaps even more radical as dystopia in this day and age. and to just throw all that away and say we're all reading into it is a disservice both to the readers who fell in love with you as a character, and to the very ideals you represent.
book!Grace, who i just transported into a pocket universe specifically to rant to him: RYAN GOSLING??? I'm RYAN GOSLING??
me: yes obviously, now stay on topic here. what im trying to tell you is that all art is political, no matter its supposed intentions. the global trolley problem of it all, ortiz's portrayal of rocky as an alien who gets to be as weird as he wishes he could be, the world's decision to choose a woman to be the scapegoat of humanity's survival--
movie!Grace, also trapped here: they did what to antarctica???
you should get a second evening for reading fan fiction. And you should get an extra day in the week to do arts and crafts.
at times like these i think wistfully of richard milhouse nixon
Sometimes i think of reagan and get so angry steam starts whistling out of my ears
The idea of Mario and Peach having any kind of relationship beyond the occasional kiss on the nose and "mama mia" is like viscerally incomprehensible to me
Not like in a prude way I just can't conceive of Mario experiencing... urges. He's a character outside the scope of that. I'm not saying he's asexual either cause positioning him on the allo/ace spectrum implies that it's a dimension of his character that at least exists, that he has at some point noticed it. I think he just jumps.
been playing a video game with my housemates lately and the other night I was trying to persuade my boyfriend in law to join me in hunting for the current boss in an underwater temple map and I truly got like. possessed. started out going "come on brother... it's all fine in the brine... we're all set in the wet..." and ended up saying shit like "nobody's frantic in the Atlantic... it's always mail call at the whale fall..." truly incomprehensible
