Dean was born to a Muggle mother and a wizard father, who left when he was very young. Dean lived with his mother, believing he was a muggle up until he got his letter to go to Hogwarts. Dean was sorted into Gryffindor where he met his life-long best friend Seamus Finnigan.
During the Second Wizarding War, Dean was forced to go into hiding to avoid imprisonment by the Death Eaters, which caused him to miss his seventh year at Hogwarts. He was captured by Snatchers, but later escaped and was safely returned to his friends.

Seamus Finnigan - Dean and Seamus have been best friends ever since starting their first year at Hogwarts. Dean worried constantly about Seamus while on the run during their seventh year. They were, however, returned safely to each other. It’s been speculated that there might be something more between the two.
Harry Potter - Dean and Harry have been close friends ever since starting Hogwarts. There was some tension between the two in their younger years when Dean was dating Ginny, but the two have since made amends.
Ginny Weasley - Ginny was an old flame of Dean’s in Hogwarts, but the two have since split up and remained good friends. Dean is happy for Ginny’s life with Harry and her children.
