But it's not a fictional setting. The setting takes place in an actual historical place in time (a time which, by the way, the g*slur did not yet exist). Just because it's used in a movie that a bunch of white guys wrote doesn't excuse its use.
sweetheart, i’ve said my piece. i’m not willing to change it, simply becauseit offends you; whether or not it was historically accurate, a big piece ofesmeralda’s character through the movie was anchored in the fact thatshe fought the racism and prejudice shown toward her people. i’m notwilling to just ignore that racism in order to be politically correct.again, if this bothers you, you’re more than welcome to unfollow me.i’m aware that my choices are debatable by anyone, and everyone, butfinding ways to inadvertently call me racist or make me look ignorant isn’tgoing to change a thing.
❛ now here is a RIDDLE to guess if you can SING THE BELLS OF NOTRE DAME. ❜
Hello! I've noticed that you use the word gypsy in your tags and about page and I wanted to let you know that the word is widely considered a racial slur.
yes, i’m very aware of that, friend—and i apologize if it offends you.i have a significant bit of romani blood in me, and i would never usethat word in a context outside of role-play to refer to any person whoshares that blood. i’m only using the term based on the fact that i’dlike to retain my accuracy in regards to the movie. that word wasthrown around a lot by disney, and in esmeralda’s current setting, that word is fairly commonplace. it’s a fictional setting, and i do mybest to draw the line between fiction and reality. i will be using thatterm in my role-play, as it was used in the movie, even by esmeraldaherself at times. please note that i will not be using this word out ofcharacter, and do not intend it as a racial slur toward anyone.that being said, if the word offends you in the context that i’ve chosento use it, i apologize, and you’re free to unfollow me.
blessings are for blessed people.

❝ --Quasi...! ❞ Arched hollows of gold carried her voice through the dusty towers and hallowed ground--ringing, her voice joining their chorus, filled with joy. ❝ Are you here? ❞
”Stars huh? Sure. Why not?” Miguel shrugged. What harm could it do? Tulio could wait a few minutes.

❝ Alright, then--have a seat.❞ She directed him toward one of two overturned baskets, a wooden box settled between them, and a dark fabric cast over it. Make-shift--but it would do. ❝ Where are you from, stranger? ❞

”While you are probably correct in that, and I would love to get my palm read, I don’t have any money.” Miguel turned his pockets inside out, bits of paper falling out.

❝ First one's free. ❞ Charity bred good. Greed only bred evil. Besides which, if he had no money, then he was even worse off than she was. Golden bangles danced upon her wrist as she beckoned to him. ❝ What do you say? Wanna know what the stars can tell you? ❞

❝ How about a palm reading, stranger...? You look like a man with an impressive fate ahead of him. ❞
