I'm firmly convinced that if Star Trek: Janeway ever happened it would be the last nail in the coffin of JC. However, I still think there's so much about Janeway that would be amazing to see. I'd love a show that would give full agency and voice to older women, I'm talking 70+.

And Janeway is such a great role model because she was fully in acceptance and in love with her feminine side (even though she insisted on that whole no love and martyrdom theme but whatever). She was never trying to me more masculine. She embraced her femininity and led with it, not despite of it. And there is so much Kathryn Janeway still has to offer that I desperately want to see it.

What I'm imagining is something like what The Expanse did with Avasarala. Give me Janeway as a heavyweight galactic diplomat in a room full of admirals and ambassadors.

I want her to tell some raging, male politician "oh I'm sorry, it was not my intention to offend your tender sensibilities, Jeffrie," deliberately forgoing whatever title he holds

Hollywood is terrified of women over 60. Over 70 is basically uncharted territory unless you're Judi Dench or whatever. I want Star Trek, a franchise literally built on the premise that the future is better, to have the guts to put a woman in her seventies at the center of a political thriller and let her be the most formidable person in every single scene.

Give me Admirals Janeway with grey hair and and absolutely zero patience for bullshit diplomacy.

And if we're feeling particularly generous, let's not kill off Chakotay and explore a mature love, reclaiming second and third chances at personal happiness. Gimme old people in love.

Picard Season 3 basically ended with the Federation in shambles, let Janeway rebuild it to the ideals she always upheld. That should be sufficient brilliant for Kate (and I totally get and applaud her saying she wants and needs it to be brilliant to consider coming back...all thr shade to Picards first two seasons) and should connect both fans of the traditional Star Trek and Nu Trek (hate that wording, loved Discovery etc)

thinking about the episode where kathryn janeway tells an alien that while other kids were outside making friends, she was indoors doing quadratic equations. (Sacred Ground, fwiw). she does this to imply she was never very adventurous or friendly.

I read that woman’s biography (Mosaic) and her autobiography (The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway), and listened to her later tell her own crew of various adventures like sneaking out of the house and walking miles in a thunderstorm after losing a tennis match.

woman almost died cave diving because her friends chickened out and she went with a boy instead. got a commendation for sneaking off campus because she saved an old woman’s life in the process. built a replica of da vinci’s flying machine so she could pilot it onto the roof of the dean’s office.

Kathryn Janeway is a scientist in the way Indiana Jones is an archaeologist. undoubtedly qualified, but there’s gonna be a caper about it.

rather than view her statement as an outright lie or a bad characterization by the writers, however, the funnier option is that she thinks of herself as rather introverted, withdrawn, and nerdy. That she is so deep in the trenches of her own mental landscape that she doesn’t realize that other people view her pursuit of science and diplomacy as acts of extreme charismatic recklessness.

which makes it doubly hilarious that jock Kathryn Janeway, who destroys the entire ship at Velocity and routinely heads her own away missions and has single-handedly reclaimed her ship from hostile aliens multiple times, looks at herself and thinks: yeah, I’m very boring.
