To all the followers of this blog, I have moved some of the posts from this blog and moved them to a new Imagines blog. The hope being that the new one, being primary, will hopefully get more traffic.
You can go see the new blog here: http://overwatchimagination.tumblr.com/
New content will be posted there from now on. Thank you.
This is an Overwatch fanfic focused on an OC introduced in The Overwatch Intern, Saki Tomoe. To provide further context, she was more-or-less introduced as Genjiâs daughter, and it is implied that she was brought to the Shimada clan more as a pawn than a full leader. This fic elaborates a bit on her past and her reasons for going along with their plans.
âGenji, I don't know what to do. I thought we were being careful...â
âI don't know either. I am so sorry about this.â
âIt's that... I wanted something to happen between us. Well, not really like this. But I did want us to have a family some day.â
âAre... you sure about that? Fuuko... I don't know what to say... I will do my best to take care of you... of both of you.â
âYou promise?â
âPromise.â
It was already fourteen years since Saki Tomoe was born. Oh, if only time would stand still for a few damn months just so she can catch up, find out about the parts of her life that she didn't already know. Find out what she actually wanted.
For instance, about who her father was. Her mother did say that he did help raise her for the first few years of her life. But to Saki, he felt more like a phantom, a missing puzzle piece. She barely knew or remembered anything about what kind of man her father was supposed to be, so she could only go off on what her mother told her about him.
Sure, she had a nice life otherwise. Her mother and grandparents did their best to ensure she had everything she needed at home. The only thing they couldn't seem to help her with was... well, her own life.
What was she here for?
Saki couldn't help but envy the robots â the Omnics. Many of them were built and then sent out, already knowing what they were meant to do, even if they changed their digital minds later on. Even the monks of the Shambali knew what they wanted to do, sort of; they were more focused on contemplating meaning itself, and spreading the word on their findings. Overall it seemed like they would never hesitate to figure out what to do with themselves.
But Saki? She had some of the things she needed to figure out what to do with her life. She just didn't know how to assemble those things. And by the time she reached high school, or maybe after that, it might be too late. She was already starting to feel herself get pushed towards adulthood, to act more her age. Someone would might as well tell her to give a five-word summary of quantum physics.
So those were the two major problems with herself: Her father and her future. Naturally she believed that finding out about one would lead to the other.
Her mother had adamantly discouraged finding out about her father in the past. There was no need to dig that up, she would say. Pretty much every time the subject of Saki's father gets brought up, her mother would get a pained look in her eyes. Yet that wasn't good enough reason to stop finding out about him, rather it was a reason to keep the search secret so that she wouldn't hurt her mother any further.
Finding out the truth would be easy however, so Saki thought. She just needed to see a doctor and get her DNA looked at, right? So she went to a hospital to do just that. But something happened while she was there.
Another doctor showed up instead of the one she initially approached, asking her to come with him. She was confused and apprehensive, but she had to trust him; he seemed to know what he was doing. Instead she was led to a car and told to get inside.
âWhy? What's going on?â Saki demanded.
âYou wanted to know about your family history, correct?â The man asked.
âWell... yes. Not climb into cars with strangers!â
âThis has to do with your father,â he said. âYou come from a very important bloodline. We have been seeking someone to help us lead what we once lost back to its original glory. You may very well be that person. But first we need to take you out of harm's way.â
Saki started raising more questions. What was he talking about? What original glory? And who the hell was her father? And what about the people back home? But as the man continued to insist that she come with him though, she had little choice but to comply and climb into the vehicle.
Where they went, however, unnerved her. They arrived at a run-down shrine, and a red flag went off in her mind. This was how kids were kidnapped and killed, right? She started to wonder if she made some sort of life-ending mistake...
As they opened a trap door and went down however, the scenery became somewhat different. It became more of an underground base. And once they were there, there were already people to greet them.
âThis is what remains of the Shimada legacy,â The man who brought her explained. âWe want to come back to how things were before, when we had all of Japan in our hands. Back when there was a solid leadership.â He then turned around to face her. âThis will be a long road, but we've already taken the first step. We have you, the true blood-heir of the Shimada clan. With training, we hope to see you bring our empire back to how it was.â
As she stood there and listened to the man talk, a mixture of emotions went through her. Fear, anxiousness... and... and pride. Was this really how it felt to have a purpose? To have something in one's life to look forward to? Saki wasn't really certain. But she did realize that she had a reason in her life now, an ambition.
And there wasn't going to be any way she would let that go, now. She would help rebuild the Shimada empire.
It was Anaâs turn to take care of D. Va today. Though she was only slightly more... enthused about it than the others, all of whom collectively despised the idea.
Well, it would be obvious why when someone were to look at the gremlin; a voracious, messy appetite for snack food, very poor manners, a high aggression towards strangers, not to mention the strange tendency to use âleet speakâ, which apparently is some sort of language the gremlins adapted from the internet of the olden years. It was unknown how or why the D. Va gremlin came to headquarters, just that no one there was able, or perhaps rather willing, to get her to leave.
So far, sitting at a remote table of the cafe, Ana was relieved that D. Va remained quiet, though she also knew she was getting into the potato chip bag.
The waitress came to the table with Anaâs tea and a cinnamon roll. Once they were placed on the table though, the older woman could tell the waitress could notice some movement in the purse.
âYou might want to avoid getting to close,â she advised.
But it was pretty much too late. The gremlinâs head stuck out, sniffing out the cinnamon roll.
âOh, goodness!â The waitress clasped her hands in front of her mouth. âWhy thatâs an adorable pet you have there.â
Ana could only have a slight grimace in spite of the compliment. D. Va however didnât seem to care about the two women, as she crawled out the purse and onto Anaâs lap, trying to get at the cinnamon roll. But Ana managed to push it away.
âNo, D. Va,â she chided. âYouâve already had your food.â
But the gremlin was undeterred, trying to reach out for the pastry. âY U HAX!? Imma report you!â Then the gremlin started to bite at Anaâs hand.
âWell thatâs a fiesty gremlin you have there,â the waitress said. âAre you two going to be okay for now?â
âWell... yes.â As okay as it will be, all things considering. The waitress left while Ana was left to wrestle with D. Va by herself to save her cinnamon roll.
Reaper wasnât exactly sure why or how he got duped into attending a sleepover. All he could recall was that Lena and Hana - or rather, Tracer and D. Va - were talking about doing something after the mission, and out of curiosity or boredom he wanted to investigate for himself. But then somewhere along the way he was caught spying and brought into Lenaâs bedroom.
Though for such a strange and somewhat annoying circumstance, he did find it all amusing, such as how Hana was filing his gauntletâs claws. The playlist wasnât half-bad either, and was finding himself enjoying songs such as âCake By The Oceanâ.
âAlright!â Lucio announced as he took an empty glass bottle of root beer, and placed it in the middle of the circle comprised of the four of them. âItâs time for some Truth or Dare!â He spun the bottle and after a couple moments the neck pointed towards Hana.
âOh, my turn! I pick Truth!â
âAwright then,â Lucio said, studying her face. âHave you ever thought of streaming yourself playing video games again?â
âAre you kidding? I was just thinking about that this week!â Hana had a look of surprise on her face, and Lucio could only laugh, Hana starting to giggle in turn. âAlright, alright...â
Hana then took the bottle and spun it, and soon enough it landed on Reaper.
The merc remained silent however. He knew little of what went on in these kidsâ heads, but he certainly didnât want to subject himself to whatever humiliating ordeal they might have in mind. But Hana soon enough prodded him with her elbow.
âYour turn, edgelord! Truth or Dare?â
He took a moment to register what was asked of him, and then let out a sigh. Guess he had to get things moving somehow. âI pick Truth.â
âAlright, hereâs something Iâve been wondering for a while,â Hana said. âHow many of those guns do you have?â
Relief washed over him. He was expecting something deeper such as something about his past, but that was something more easier. âI have six.â
âYou sure about that?â Lena spoke up. âI was pretty sure it was more than six.â
âYou have fallen in combat before, correct?â Reaper asked, his mask turning to Lena. âYou need to heal up and get your gear fixed up before going out into the field again. That is more than enough time for me to reload my guns and get back out there.â
âBut... what if you donât fall in combat?â Hana asked.
âYouâve already used up your question,â Reaper said, dodging what she asked in a heartbeat. He reached out to the bottle and deftly spun it, and within a minute it landed on Lena.
âOh, my turn! Okay, Iâm gonna make this good! I pick Dare!â Lena had a bold look on her face.
Reaper lifted up one of his hands, pointing to Tracer... but then paused. She was one of his enemies. Another mark on his list. Surely he would have to come up with something to degrade her. At the same time however, he was at a party. It wouldnât do him any good if he got her into anything that directly reflected back on him. So it took a few moments to register before he finally settled on something good. It would be off his hands what would happen to her given the Chonal Accelerator on her person.
âI dare you, Lena Oxton... to jump into the pool outside.â
âAre you sure about that, love?â Lenaâs face faltered from its fearlessness. Bingo.
âIt is a dare isnât it?â Oh, if only Lena, if only Tracer could see him smirking from behind his ma...
âI mean itâs so cold outside tonight!â Lena then shook her head. âBut youâre right. Iâve gotta do it for the dare.â She then stood up, and due to the accelerator, she left the room in a literal flash, leaving behind a gale and her voice crying out, âALLONSY!â
âYEAH! GO LENA!â Lucio cheered.
And then there was the sound of a splash outside.
Reaper realized that she really did just do it. She did the dare. A couple minutes started to pass before he started to give off a chuckle. It really did happen, didnât it? She likely took her own life...
Then however, he started hearing footsteps heading back to the bedroom. Lena stood outside again, drying herself off with a towel.
âWell that was more refreshing than I thought!â
âShe really did do it!â Hana said, failing to hold back her relentless giggling. âThis partyâs going to be great!â
âReal greatâ, Reaper thought to himself. Now he wasnât so sure what would become of this party... or his own pride.
Person A and Person B both trying to break into the same place on the same night by accident, only to be chased by the police upon meeting and having to hide in a closet/cupboard/safe together until they leave.
âFrigginâ... Itâs still so cramped in here!â Junkrat didnât seem to care that the police could hear him, he was trying to budge Roadhogâs girth from inside the gardening shed. Roadhog himself however didnât budge an inch, since being shirtless he could cut himself on a gardening tool. And of course neither of them could see in the very, very scant lighting of nighttime.
âGood thing this place is cold,â Junkrat said after a while once he settled down. âOtherwise weâd be sweating like... Ah, you know.â
Roadhog only gave his typical silence in response.
âAnd so quiet too... I can just hear an echo in here! Hellooo~â He paused to listen. âWell just a bit of an echo. Oi, am I being too noisy?â
Roadhog finally spoke up. âYes.â
âGood to know. Iâll be quiet then. Reaal quiet...â
But after some several minutes, Junkrat had a thought come into his mind. âBy the by, I thought we agreed that Iâd be taking the bank down the corner and youâd be at the one at West Avenue... Or was that the other way around? I could never keep track when we split up.â
âItâs just an empty houseâ, Hana thought to herself. âItâs just a stupid idea,â Hana thought to herself. âTheyâre just making a big deal out of nothing,â Hana thought to herself.
Really, she needed to convince her squadmates that it was really an empty house and that those rumors of noises at night were nothing. Said squadmates were around her age, fellow gamers like herself. Though as much as she didnât want to admit it, she needed the occasional reminder that not all of her team had nerves of steel, nor played through several survival-horror games without getting spooked. Ironically, for someone obsessed with video games, she knew that she was dealing with polygons. Nothing that would seriously hurt her in the real world.
As she walked up to the empty, abandoned household however, she knew she wasnât separated from monsters by a screen. Well if monsters did exist, and she knew they didnât. Really, she had to be more worried about whether or not whatever was in there could potentially hurt or even kill her. In the end she just had her pistol on her to defend herself; she was a mech pilot, not a soldier for crying out loud. Though her mech was left back at base.
Taking a flashlight out of one of her jacketâs pockets, Hana pushed the front door of the building and stepped inside, using the light to navigate in the mostly darkened first room. The place was devoid of furniture, the stench of dust clung to the air. She wasnât really sure if bugs wanted to stay in this miserable place, though she wasnât all that eager to find out.
She continued to carefully step over the wooden floor, keeping whatever creaks come out of them to a minimum. Her free hand was on the pistol holstered and hidden under her jacket; she didnât want to use it, but she would have to sooner or later.
Eventually her flashlightâs light came across a single door, next to where the kitchen would have been. She gently pushed the door open at first, but froze still the moment it started to creak loudly. She looked around the room to see if anyone was around. If someone did hear it, she would start hearing footsteps. But there wasnât a sound.
âOkay, now youâre just starting to be silly,â Hana thought to herself.
A nervous chuckle quietly came out of her, mainly she needed to do something to vent this nervousness out of herself. But then she took a few breaths, trying not to cough or sneeze, before she more carefully pushed the door open.
Shining her flashlight through the doorway, she could only see stair steps leading down into a dark unknown place, though she figured it was some sort of basement. She began to take one step at a time, slowly starting her descent.
Four... five... six... It was around the eighth step though that caused her to slip, causing her to yelp out as she fell down, and landed on her rear end with a loud crash.
Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap...!! Someone heard that, theyâre coming for me, Iâm in for it now...! Her heart pounded in her chest as her shaky hand pulled out her pistol, holding it close to her. She didnât want to use her flashlight to show her who was coming, that might give her away instead. She just had to wait and listen for whoever was going to approach.
Two whole minutes appeared to pass by before Hana realized that there likely wasnât anyone there after all. She had broken into a cold sweat, but something was stirring up inside her... laughter. She tried her best to contain it, but it turned out to be useless. She laughed and giggled over how much she scared herself silly over what really did turn out to be nothing after all.
But then... she heard a growl from in the dark.
âWhat are you finding hilarious?â
Hana suddenly gave out a yelp, and scrambled back on her feet. Oh crap, oh crap! Someone did hear her and would likely start chasing her. She didnât even want to look behind her, she just retraced her steps as she ran outside the house and out into the open air. Hell, she didnât stop sprinting until she was several feet away from the property.
Once she did stop, she panted for breath, her legs shaking from the experience. She took some time to recuperate, but something nagged at her mind. What if...? Hana looked back over at the house to see if something was out of place... and there was.
She saw a figure clad in black, looking back at her. And then they vanished into black smoke.
âThere really was a ghostâ, Hana thought to herself. âBut how the hell do I explain this after that act I pulled earlier?â
May I request for headcanons for Reinhardt, Hanzo, and McCree as best friends? General ideas of how they would act around you if they were your best friend! P.S- I bless this blog with my holy powers and wish good fortune and luck to you~! ~Mod Rose
Why thank you~ And here they are!
Reinhardt - The two of you would have a blast traveling in his van, and heâll let you have the honor of listening to something other than David Hasslehoff. This is a very prestigious honor according to him, since he doesnât let anyone else (except maybe Brigitte) tamper with the radio. Heâll show you some of his favorite places, mainly pubs. If youâre willing, heâll also challenge you to spar with him, the two of you taking turns to choose what weapon the two of you will fight with.
Hanzo - Heâs not really one for hanging out, but when the two of you do meet up, heâll treat you to some ramen and sake - or whatever food of your choice, but he prefers to stick to his favorites. Heâs willing to teach you some of his archery and martial arts, and is mostly patient in that regard. But really, itâs mostly just the two of you hanging out somewhere, mostly someplace remote and shooting the breeze.
McCree - While you do hang out and chat at a bar or tavern, he is also one for the occasional good time. Heâs willing to bring you to a carnival - at least once - so the two of you could partake in rodeo or the shooting gallery. Heâs also a sucker for western films, so if any of those are playing in theaters, heâll certainly ask you to come watch with him.
