This artist is brilliant. You must prevue their artwork on any of (her?) websites!
Cheers, Longestdistance!
Owls' hearing is exponentially better than our own. The owl on the left in this brief clip is attempting to figure out what the heck the camera/person below them, pointed upwards & clearly looking at them, is. Their ears (which are essentially just holes in their head) are placed asymmetrically on both sides of their skulls.
The asymmetrical placement of their "earholes" (officially called apertures) allows them to pinpoint the exact location of a noise in 3-dimensional space through the process of elimination when rotating/bobbing their heads around. The feathers on their heads naturally direct sound to their "earholes"; therefore, their heads are like little satellite dishes!
Very cool!
