Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan by Ilya Repin
Easily one of my favorite pieces of art to exist. Look at the fear in his eyes, the horror, that as one of the many interpretations goes, he struck and killed his own son. That the blood of his own blood is currently seeping out in front of him. It's so viscerally and devastatingly human. Not that (hopefully) you or I have ever fatally struck someone, but the reminder that we are capable of it. That we are, as humans, are capable of harm. Especially when our own pride, self-righteousness, and anger blind us. To me, this image is a reminder that humility is a protection for ourselves and others.
