01.04.16 I finally have my hands on the official textbook for this exam so my notes are coming along much quicker and in so much more detail thankfully! The weather today and generally this week has been amazing. It’s just lifted my mood so much 😁😃

Another productive day! I'm really enjoying learning new things! Even did some reading and practiced some questions.

I wanted to fill out some applications forms though, I couldn't do that. I think I'll do them later. Still got plenty of time.

Over all, things are looking up despite everything because I'm learning again!

The nuclear physics course has started becoming tougher though. Need to work more on it, which I'll do tomorrow.

It’s half-past noon, and the day is progressing quite well. I hope to continue this fresh burst of motivation, as I have an exam on Tuesday (Latin)! I hope this weekend is treating you kindly. I needed the sun filtering into my room and a clean desk as a balm for the very anxious week just past.

Transition metals Tuesday baby

ngl uni applications are stressing me out and i don’t even have to do anything for them ._.

Whew! I know I haven’t made an actual post here in a while, but here’s a quick update:

- I graduated with my B.S. in Physics and a minor in Astronomy !!

- I applied to 10 universities for grad school, which was extremely stressful. The fact the grad applications cost money is absolute classist fuckery

- SO FAR I’ve heard back from 2 schools and they have both accepted me!! Both are in my top choices too, so I am beyond elated and will be riding this high as long as possible.

- In the meantime, I’m trying to look for a job and doinh some work in a research lab on campus.

I want to mention my physics GRE score is absolute garbage and I don’t have any papers published (yet). So, to all my fellow physics majors who are worred about those things I want to tell y’all it’s still def possible to get into grad school.

You got this. We all got this. Let’s keep up the good work and support each other in this wild field.

How do you stay motivated? I've been in a slump for years

Definitely a tough question haha it’s different for everyone but personally whenever I’m feeling unmotivated I try to look at why I’m feeling that way. I usually journal to figure it out since writing it out helps me personally. A lot of times it’s an indicator that I need to take a break or that something needs to change in my life (getting more sleep, eating healthier, etc.).

About a year ago I also realized that most of my procrastination comes from a fear of failure, so whenever I’m feeling that fear come back then I remind myself of how getting started earlier on projects and studying for tests prevents the failure that I’m so afraid of. Just getting started helps a ton, even if you kinda have to force yourself to just do a little bit of work on it since it seems a lot less intimidating then.

And to be honest, you don’t necessarily have to have motivation in order to start working. I find the act of working hard very motivating personally 🤷‍♀️

In order to just start working without feeling motivated I like to use the 2-minute rule where you just start working on The Thing for 2 minutes and if you still really don’t want to work after those 2 mins are up then you can take a break and try again later. I usually just keep working once I’ve started.
