There was a buzzing sound at first, the small piece of plastic persistently vibrating on the bedside table, until the familiar harsh ringtone awakened the tall Tamaranian from her slumber. She wasn’t sleeping per se, as she didn’t technically require sleep. It was ineffective for her species. Rather than that, she mostly used the standard earthian sleep cycle as a method to rest and absorb energy. But she admired the notion of dreaming, and if she could choose to dream of any number of fanfical, wonderous visions she would undoubtedly dream about him. Everytime. With a audible hmph, she disentangled the arm that was snugly wrapped around Tommy’s waist and reached blindly for her phone. Peering through the tangle of her locks to check the caller ID, her frown deepened as she recognized the familiar digits of her agency. Never one for blatant disrespect, she hesitated on ignoring the call. She was cozy and likely whatever her agent wished to discuss would require her attention outside the comforts of Tommy’s bed. “Hmm,” it took another thirty seconds of deliberation before deciding that her agent was sure to forgive her for screening her call with a little dazzling charm. And perhaps a fresh box of donuts of Jitters.
Silencing the ring, she returned to her curled position, placing an ear over Tommy’s chest to listen to his steady gentle heartbeat. Feel the length of his bones, the rhythm of his breathing, the comfort of his warmth. “Do you know what I’ve never done?” she muttered, sensing he was awake by the pattern of his breathes. Smile beaming brighter than the morning light as it crept gradually above the horizon and seeped through the gap in the curtains. “Spend all day, in bed, with a really handsome doctor beneath me”
It seemed of all the great adventures Kory experienced falling in love was the grandest of all. When did infatuation become this endearing sentiment? Truthfully, Kory made her rounds with a few impressionable beings over the last few years. Some of the more notable ones her own former teammates. However, none of them compared to the caring yet troubled healer who inspired her to marvel at the enchantment of a soul connection. Kory was irrevocably enamored with the way Tommy cared for her as well, with his consideration, and emotional warmth. With his ease of listening so deeply to her soul. It surpassed any glamour the universe had to offer. “I could make us breakfast!” she proclaimed with a little excited wiggle. “Actually, perhaps not. I don’t imagine setting your stove on fire again will be a good start to our day”
It had been weeks since Tommy slept peacefully. He slept, but was almost consistently plagued by insomnia, nightmares, or both. Though, knowing he was safe near Kory eased his mind more than anything else. He felt safe. Barely audible buzzing roused him for a moment, turning his head and adjusting his limbs in an attempt to drift back to his dreamless slumber. The brief withdrawal of the warmth that had been snaked across his middle for so many hours brought him even closer to wakefulness, but the seasoned doctor knew that once he opened his eyes, sleep would be hard to find once more.
Her head lay on his chest, and Tommy withheld a hum of content as he continued to lay still. At her question, he pulled his arm closer to Kory, his hand resting on her hip while his thumb traced a line back and forth. “Hmm?” He raised his brows in question as he hummed, unsure whether or not she could see his face. His mind was still on the border of sleep, and he was perfectly content listening to Kory’s lilting voice as she spoke.
“Oh?” Tommy murmured, voice thick with sleep. “That sounds ‘mazing, babe.” There was truly nothing better he could possibly think of doing on his 48 off. Staying in all day, pajamas (or otherwise) and barefeet, it didn’t matter what they did, because as long as he was with Kory, he was happy. “Mmm,” he hummed once more, smile creeping across his features before a breathy chuckle escaped. “Maybe we make breakfast together? We don’t need the fire department to make an appearance on our day together.” Tommy finally cracked his eyes open, slowly blinking the sleep away as he brought his free hand up to rub the haze from his vision. His eyes adjusted to the beams of light that peeked through the curtains, details becoming more clear with each moment.
“Your phone rang, did you need to call ‘em back?”
