This St. Baldrick’s participant is donating their hair to raise money for childhood cancer research and stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer! Make a donation to support their fundraising efforts.
Alright, so it’s final! On Friday March 13th I will have the honor of donating 10 inches of my hair in support of childhood cancer. For those of you who don’t know, my hair has been a big part of my life and my self image for much of my childhood. The past five years or so has been a constant state of me googling how to grow my hair and even telling my hair stylist to cut off as little hair as possible— the length has remained at mid-abdomen level since before I started high school. And then I made a realization: I had an entire childhood with a full head of hair— and in three months top, my hair will be back. Kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment and I proudly want to join in to support each child battling daily, and to the angels who have already lost their fight.
Along with donating my hair, I am trying to raise as much money as I can for pediatric cancer. Unfortunately, I have joined this event late in the game, and I haven’t been able to receive as many donations as I hoped. So this is where I turn to you: my family, my friends, and all the others who wish to join in on the quest to conquer childhood cancer.
I’m not asking you to donate your entire savings, but if it is at all possible, St. Baldrick’s and all the kids fighting cancer could really use any help you’d be willing to give. As someone who is struggling to pay for her schooling at the moment, I understand if you cannot donate a monetary sum. However, if unable, I ask you to please spread the word. Reblog, tweet, tell your friends and family about this cause and foundation. Talk to your school, local recreation center, roller rink, etc. and see if they’d be willing to host a heartwarming event like this. With every dollar we raise, it’s another step toward ending childhood cancer.
