This was his heist. HIS. Months upon months of meticulous planning to be thwarted by the bat was nothing new, but a random newcomer? UNACCEPTABLE. With a snap of his fingers, a few henchman turned their attention from the bank tellers to this new rival, awaiting further instruction.
BUT– Ed has never been the type for senseless violence. Perhaps an alliance was in order.

he wasn’t sure what to think at this point. claude didn't know much about THE RIDDLER, but from what he had heard this guy was constantly getting caught by leaving clues. honestly, he sounded so smart from the ELABORATENESS of his plans- this guy's flair was more than apparent- but if he was indeed intelligent then why was it so EASY to catch him ?? claude would make sure that no riddles were left behind- he was far too clever to let his ego get in the way. he wanted success && he would HAVE IT. if this partnership was more than a one-night show, then claude would certainly make it a point to sit down && talk about. though with this guy he wasn't exactly to sure about how to act around him.

after chambers & chambers full of falls, TURRETS and a million other things trying to kill them, Katie only sighed at entering yet another. her and her coincidental companion seemed to have entered a little routine at this point and immediately her eyes were scanning over the area —— looking for buttons or boxes or things to reach. having a gun each certainly helped but still… these were getting harder and harder.
“ hopefully. ” the thought of actually LEAVING still seemed a distant one, and she wouldn’t get her hopes up. the hand holding her portal gun dropped to the side and she leaned carefully over the edge of the platform they had entered to try and get a full look.
“ nothing down there. i can see a few buttons but no cubes at the moment… ”

his hand immediately shot out to his right, eager to prove her wrong. claude then proceeded to just jump right off the ledge, landing on the small space in between the buttons. at this point, heights didn’t bother him at all- hell, one could say he LIVED for the free fall. he signaled to katie to move down there with him, pointing towards a hidden entrance. he raised his voice due to the distance && he loudly yelled,

“o-okay.. okay…”
as he heard the ambulance’s sirens, he knew he was gonna be fine. the sirens were there to help him, that was its job. but even if it was their job, he didn’t feel safe in their care. they weren’t the ones taking care of him. that was claude. there was a small sense of security that connected him with the other male. perhaps it was for the moment, but it was there then. he would flinch away when the paramedics tried to touch him. ‘it’s their jobs’ he thought; however, it didn’t help him calm down. the ride was less calming, but he stay silent. only holding onto the other’s arm every bump and turn.
it was when they were separated did he begin to have another episode of fear. his hands shook and chest heaved quickly like before. his eyes burned from the light and he wished it to be over.
“stop.. don’t..! don’t use those!”
his small pleads for clean instruments were carried on through the time he was under their care. he couldn’t tell if they listened to his wishes or not. even if they did, his inner thoughts would always say they weren’t. that they were infecting him further, and he would would just get infected. from his thoughts brought sobs out from him. he just wanted to leave.
the procedure wasn’t too awful, though he couldn’t remember if they had to knock him out or he passed out. either way, he woke up to the sound of the beeping monitor. dark hues fluttered open, gaze unfocused as he looked around. his hands were bandaged from the tips of his fingers to just a bit over the wrist. those were for different reasons than it was for the rest. marcarius’s shoulder felt numb, glancing over to see that it too had a bandage over it. he was attempting to sit up as the door opened and he saw claude.
there was no real emotion when he saw the other. perhaps there was a tint of relief that the other hadn’t left him alone in this place.
“you don’t have to lie on my account.”
he was joking then. he really didn’t think the other was lying. even if he was, he wouldn’t have been offended. being in a hospital didn’t really equal him looking any better than he had before. his hands automatically went to mess with the bandages around his hands, clawing against them.
“don’t know… they probably took it to the laundry.. um..” he paused for a moment, continuing. “i apologize.. i ruined a perfectly good jacket. i will buy you a new one, i promise.”
❝ hey- no need to apologize. you’re right- the IDEAL place for your blood wasn’t my jacket. it was your chest, but- well, we all can’t be winners, now can we ??❞
he had relaxed his body posture, willed himself to calm down, && truly- the site of the other was calming. so serene ... even the sounds of the heart monitor were calming. a steady beep in the span of a second, every noise the machine made, with every apotheosis it brought him closer to reality. but the reality in this case was bleach infested tile, && the promise of someone finding his mask. although now that didn’t cause him stress anymore, his regular identity of claude was a steady one. they had no reason to even suspect him.

claude had two purposes for this. one- he genuinely wanted to know how soon he could see him again. too many people he only talked to because of work or to maintain just an average identity. the second purpose was to see how serious the damage was. that would lead him closer to seeing who was responsible- if he only knew their motive...

this COULDN’T be happening. seriously, this was his place to rob, not some tacky guy in an obnoxious, green, fashion disaster of an outfit’s place to claim money from. claude was pissed at this point, buy still he was CAUTIOUS in how he would approach him. he didn’t want any trouble with the big-wigs, && if he remembered from the news correctly this was that “ riddler guy “ or whatever. made him feel better about how he felt his name was dumb.

marcarius could hear him, eyes turned to try and focus on him. claude. they had only just met and were making small talk when the robbers came in. there was a sense of calm when he looked at him, despite his irregular breathing. even with the short moment they spoke, marcarius trusted him. he had no real other choice than that. claude already knew of his condition, something that he lied about to others. in such a short time, he was comfortable with the other.
“no, n-no.. please claude..”
he felt the object pressed against his mouth. he couldn’t help but hate the other in that moment. forcing such an item into his mouth, where had it been before then? the disgust built in the pit of his stomach, the male felt like throwing up. dark hues watered as he breathed in and out; thus, making a few tears dripping down onto his cheek. it was VILE. even if it was helping him, he LOATHED every moment. the air began coming through more well, he could feel himself breathing again. however, there was still a bitter taste left behind on his mouth and tongue. marcarius tried pushing the hand away from his forehead, only to just have a weak hold on the other’s wrist.
“ don’t… please..”
had it been any other moment, marcarius would have been appalled that the other took a woman’s coat. then he would have returned it with apologizes following. however, this wasn’t any other moment. the warmth of the coat was welcomed, even if the idea of someone else had wore it was not. he tried not thinking of that. ‘What if they didn’t wash it properly? She could have some contagious disease–’ These kinds of thoughts flooded his mind, but washed away as he heard claude again.
marcarius did his best to follow the other’s orders. breathing in and out. repeating it and following. the breaths were more shaky now, but better than before. the shakiness was due to his tears, ones that silently fell down his cold cheeks. he couldn’t met the other’s face. but kept his weak hold on his wrist, not wanting to be abandoned for now. however, he could feel the blood soak through his glove, coughing out sudden sob.
“i can’t.. i-i can’t take them off… but.. but..”
but his hands would still get dirty if he doesn’t.

This was so new for claude ... he hadn’t been actually touched in a gentle way as opposed to shoving past him or throwing a punch or two in such a long time. it was hard to resist the urge to peel his hand away, but he knew marcarius just needed him to stay there. he continued applying pressure on his wound, praying silently for the first time in YEARS that he’d make it. He soon heard the sound of screaming sirens, && for once in his life the noise brought a wave of relief. the robbers were apprehended, the police rushed in, && due to hearing a gunshot a paramedic was on the scene too. she actually complimented on claude’s skills, to which he simply replied that he read way too many crime novels. there was still enough time for it to be taken care of easily- he highly doubted they would have to remove the bullet. The ambulance ride was hell by any definition. thankfully claude was allowed to tag along, though, which comforted him at least a little. at every bump in the ebony asphalt claude had to control his urge to yell at the driver that they had a scared && very important man with a gunshot wound tagging along for the ride. if he had it his way he would probably just knock him out && drive the damn ambulance instead, but he had managed to evade the law this time && it wasn’t worth it to go to prison for wanting to drive an ambulance. Once they got there he was exiled to the waiting room, reading old magazines with outdated information. still, there were some studies on various artists that he found in a time magazine which kept his mind pre-occupied. once he got the go-ahead to visit he practically rushed to his room, shoving past old ladies && little children on the way to see their dying relatives.

He was lying, he always found the position of how someone’s head looked while laying in a hospital bed to be unflattering, but he never had a problem with spreading a false truth. claude then proceeded to look around the room, noticing which machines they had hooked up to him. nothing too serious, thankfully, && so he simply went to searching for his blazer. it contained his mask, his signature trademark cyan mask ... he needed that back. Yes it was hidden, but still. he was not taking any chances today with the streak of luck he’s been carrying around for the past 5 hours. he must’ve accidentally pissed off of leprechaun or something.
