[Flag IDs: Two rectangular flags consisting of 7 main horizontal stripes with a hexagon in the center. The colors of the stripes, from top to bottom, are as follows: Dull red, dull orange, dull yellow, dull green, dull yellow, dull light blue, dull purple. The hexagon in the center is offwhite and divided into 6 equilateral triangles by dull brown, which also outlines the hexagon. The first flag has additional flavor stripes. There is a dark red, scalloped stripe before the dull red stripe; the dull green stripe is scalloped; and there is a dark purple, scalloped stripe after the dull purple stripe. End ID.]
Dextra Attraction: A tertiary/fragarian/non-rose attraction type defined by an attraction which is spurred on by an individual's skillset. The attraction exists because the object of one's attraction holds a particular skill. It may or may not also cause other forms of attraction.
To define a particular skill as causing one's Dextra attraction, one could use (theoretical) terms such as artdextra or sciencedextrous.
Coined in tandem with @painbottomtext, our best friend and freshly initiated mogai enjoyer /silly!
Terminology using sexual attraction as reference for equivalents:
Dexterity -> Sexuality
Dextra, Dextrous -> Sexual
Anticipated questions:
"How is this different from sapio/mental attraction/artistic attraction/etc?"
- Dextra is most similar to Artistic Attraction out of all of these, but its coining is intended to expand beyond the arts. Sapio is a term with a controversial history that focuses on the vague concept of intelligence/competence, and we were seeking something deeper. Dextra encompasses the effort put into developing a skill, the execution of the skill, the results of the skill, etc. It's also possible for it to be used as a way to define the source of another type of attraction, or for it to be combined with other types of attraction.
"Why the hexagon?"
- The hexagon is meant to mimic a radar chart (link)! Radar charts are often used to display several attributes and their intensities, such as in Persona 5, where a radar chart is used to display social skill levels. It's also used on the RAADS-R lol.
"Why the rainbow?"
- Gay! Just kidding, it's moreso intended to represent the spectrum of types of skills. Red: athletic, orange: education, yellow: academia, science and medicine: green, trade/blue collar: blue, arts: purple. Benny came up with these color associations!
Fidanthic
— (adj., noun; from Latin fides “trust” + Greek anthos “flower”)
An aroace tertiary attraction label for individuals who experience nonromantic, nonsexual connections rooted in clear boundaries, understanding, and trust—without the expectation of progression or the desire to escalate their relationship.
Within a fidanthic bond, a person may be called one’s “sanctum.”
Definition
— Fidanthic describes a form of nonromantic, nonsexual attraction or orientation rooted in deep emotional trust and mutual understanding.
It is characterized by connections that blossom slowly and organically, often grounded in safety, shared emotional space, and a sense of untraditional intimacy. A fidanthic connection may look like friendship to others, but is often experienced as uniquely significant and affirming.
Label Form
— Adjective: a fidanthic bond, fidanthic attraction.
— Noun: I’m fidanthic, I experience fidanthity.
Flag Stripes' Meanings
— Magenta-Red: Being moved by someone's presence, without needing to define it, or act on it.
— Light Burgundy: Intimacy without ownership or escalation.
— Coral Pink: Capacity for tenderness.
— White: Nothing is owed, and nothing is assumed.
— Corn Yellow: Reading and being read with gentle clarity, not intensity.
— Light Moss Green: Emotionally affected, but not entangled.
— Sea Green: The feeling of rest—not because of a bond, but because no such bond is demanded—untethered from traditional romantic or sexual expectations.
Label coined by me; definition written by the same. Any similarities are coincidental, but I'd be happy to see identities that are similar! Also, sorry if this is a mess—it's my first time trying to make my own label, so I wasn't sure how to go about it, or what to include—either way, I've been trying to find a label that suits me for a while, and I ended up deciding to do it myself. ❤︎
