I love cowboy AU anything, when I first started shipping dexmatt, my thought went there immediately. I was so excited seeing your post about this, you need to be awarded.

Imagine how much friction there'd be between them. All those heated Mexican standoffs, Dex's huge boner for guns and artillery, Matt leather-clad on a horse, holding the reigns both literally and metaphorically. DEX on a horse, legs spread, my my.

The religious imagery with Matt would be insane. Him having a whole shootout (no guns for Matt) with Dex in a church looks different now. It'd be just a chapel on a hill then, instead of a cathedral. It'd feel so much more contained and crowdy, wooden instead of stone, warm instead of cold. They're breathing into each other's space, bloodied up by the time the sun's rising. Matt would be disgusted with Dex. He'd be enchanted by Dex. (He'd be more disgusted with himself for being enchanted by Dex.)

Those who fear Matt know him as the 'Daredevil' and those who praise him call him the 'Hand of God'. Both are blasphemous (not as blasphemous as fucking Dex rough in a snowy cabin) and both'd be true, and Matt would hate them equally.

Dex would just be pure animal.

Dex loves the fight. He loves the aggression and the blood and relishes in every hit he takes from Matt.

Which is why he acts out. So he forces Matt to give him what he wants.

BUT what if Matt learns the pattern and gets what Dex is doing, so he switches it up. When Dex is bad, when he kills or acts unnecessary reckless, Matt leaves him alone and lets him wallow in it.

But when Dex is good, Matt beats him up, pushes him down, breaks his nose, bruises his ribs, and gives him praise between each hit.

Dex’s brain fucking melts.

That’s when he switches up, he does what Matt says because he knows he’ll get what he wants.

Matt feels weird about it of course, it’s all backwards and wrong and ten different ways of fucked up. However, when Dex comes to him, loiters in the doorway, flicking a knife between his fingers while he pretends to not care, Matt can’t refuse him.

Matt and Elektra are going to Eiffel Tower Dex in DD:BA S3. I read the screenplay myself.

Dex has the sort of feline confidence that lets him claim Matt's personal space as his own without any hesitance whatsoever.

It makes Matt fluster and tense up every time it happens.

Every time Dex closes the four yard distance that he maintains during night patrols to lean his entire weight into Matt, Matt will go still and careful.

There's no reprimanding Dex. Or there is, for every other thing, except for this. Because there's nothing Matt can say that won't make him sound completely wrecked and give him away. Not now, not here, not in public. Dex would obey. He always obeys, listens to Matt's word like it's gospel. Good boy. But it's not what Matt wants no matter how hard he tells himself it's wrong for so many reasons.

That's why he freezes up. He'll tell himself it's caution. Caution from being nuzzled into by a remorseless predator. In truth, Matt stalls because the feeling of Dex's cheek against his jaw unravels something so archaic and hungry deep inside of him that it makes his teeth itch his muscles tense up with restraint.

Matt could remove him with his hands. Dex likes that. Dex would take to it, he wouldn't mind. Matt would mind, not only because putting his hands on Dex is in its own a sinful gratification. There's just no denying he loves the shameless, feline display of affection Dex performs with such trust. It makes him feel feral and possessive in all ways that are Daredevil and no ways that are Matt.
