lewis hamilton, p3, is interviewed after the race, china - march 15, 2026
“It’s such a special day, honestly it’s been one of the most amazing weeks I’ve had. To travel out here with my mum, travel around and get those really special moments together, and then for her to see all the support that I get here in Shanghai… It’s phenomenal and I’m so grateful for how they show up for me here. “Huge congratulations to Kimi, it’s a real privilege to see him come, take my place, get to work with an amazing team – congratulations to everyone at Mercedes cause they’ve done a phenomenal job. To be up there with Kimi and with Bono was really really sweet. And then on top of that to be Mother’s Day, I gotta say, Happy Mother’s Day to my mum and a huge Happy Mother’s Day to my step mum, Linda, who has been here with me many many times and is such a huge part of my life. And to all the mums around the world.” Did the studying help? “Honestly, last night was the first time in 20 years that I took my mum through everything I go through and she was gobsmacked! I wish the world could see the work that goes on in the background, the amount of studying… Honestly it’s like studying for a test everyday, I’ve never really been good at tests, but fortunately I’m good at driving. I learnt a lot in the main race [in Australia], brought it into this race, still some improvements to be made. But my race pace has been really good, particularly on the hard tyre, in these first two races. In the medium I’ve got to see how I can have more potential, and in that mid stint there was something not quite right. I was in second and I lost the ground, fell to 4th, to fight back and get to 3rd was a hell of a push.” “Massive big thank you to Ferrari. It’s my first podium with them so it’s a huge moment for me.”

FINALLY I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR HIM TO BE IN THIS GRAPHIC
Q: Do you feel as though you're now back to your best after a bit of a tricky first year?
LH: I definitely feel like I'm back to both mentally and physically my best, yes. I still think there's room to improve. Training this winter has been the heaviest and the most intense that I've ever, ever had. And that probably comes hand in hand with being older. It takes longer to recover. But I've managed to pull these new tools. I've got a great new trainer, well, a great trainer that I've been working with in the past, but we were together since Christmas Day. And then the time at the factory, obviously a new engineer, and that's obviously been a real good boost as well. Great morale within the team.
And as I said, just decided on Christmas Day how I was going to start this season. I decided what I was going to do mentally. And I'm gonna to continue to tweak that. I do think there's more to come. I think I can still eke out more performance from this car. I'm still learning about it as I go, particularly with deployment and that. And then on the backside, mid to end of last year, really digging deep with the engineers and talking to them about the things that I wanted. from a car that I didn't have any part of developing last year to then developing the car with them this year. And to see them listen and put some of those things that I'd asked for on the car, I'm incredibly grateful for them for listening on that side of things. And it just makes you feel more united with everyone because you're moving in the same direction. So I'm looking forward to getting back next week to Maranello and seeing everybody. And yea, big, big push
I think I came into the season with the confidence that I used to have and I think I've stuck at it and I would say in combination with things like... this is the biggest crowd I've ever seen here in Shanghai. Like when we were doing the drivers' parade, we went up to turn 11, 12, and then that grandstand has been closed for 20, I think almost 20 years. And it was amazing, I was so shocked to see it completely full. And so I really have to say a huge thank you to everyone here in Shanghai that came out to support our sport.
And then teamLHchina... are unbelievable! They're just the sweetest and most incredible supporters, you know, and my mum got to see it this weekend which I think it was really cool for her to kind of witness the sincerity and the amazing support... so they lift me up.
And yea, definitely this result, you know, I've been pushing for a podium... It's the hardest thing just to get a podium compared to, you know, a lot through my career. It was the biggest challenge to get that. And I just had to bide my time. And I think coming into the season, really cultivate that really positive mental attitude. And I'm taking that forwards with me.
It's been so long to get here *laughs* When I joined Ferrari, I had no idea what I was in for. You know, last year was obviously a huge struggle and whilst I had my first sprint win here in my second race, but also the rest of the season was very very tough. So to then rebound, to rebuild and come back here with the team, lots and lots of changes. Come in here.. I'm feeling fit, feeling as good as I do at 41. And racing against these young lads, you know, 19, 28, 25 year old guys, I felt like I was able to give it as good as I got today, feeling really really grateful...
I had to sit here and listen to Max fans slander Lewis week after week last year. Now he's having his worst start to the season ever. It's not so fun when you're on the receiving end of being called washed!
❤️❤️❤️
