Take the road less taken And pave your path for the soul to awaken
The planet is our home ,paint it green
A poem to show how Mangroves protect our coastline from flurries and floods and tsunamis.
Mushy Mangroves of Mahim
On the muddy shores of Mithi and rusty creeks of Mahim
I once flourished creepy and plucking on the petals of panache
Waiting eagerly for the monsoon moon to smile
On the tides and shores of …amchi Mumbai
Year after year and mile after mile.
Alongside was the limit less July sky
Who witnessed one happy face
That blush of shy
I am the mushy mangrove of the facile waters
Along the cluttered coasts of Mumbai
Those were the days of good and old
In the city of shine and shimmer
Not many people on the city roads
Not much water to fail the harbor
Regular spills of rain on the rails
Fishermen of koli tribe worshipped the waters
of mithi
as they happily set their sails
Once again monsoon moon smiled
As I kept flourishing in those muddy facile waters
Now the bygone era smiles at me
Now the bygone era smiles at me
Only in the memories of sunset at sea shores
Only in the silver stud photos that walk you
Through the mossy mushy memory lane
Silently Crawls The mangrove of Mahim
Alas Alas Alas ‼!
Where are the green city parks of Amchi Mumbai now
Old highways have it to new sky scraping highways
And people who dwell in a satirical street
A street that is made of buildings and concrete
A street made of overtarred roads with more potholes
A street full of people busting in chaos camouflaging
To the beats of a honking sounds and hues of the traffic light
A street full of children who dwell in the nearby garbage dump
With less place to sleep ,read , play or jump
For the city is more of trash and less of tan and twigs
And there is less water in the storage hand pump,
A street where the old , the young
have less of Fresh air to breathe and follow
For there is more chemical baggage around
To smell ,eat and drink
And the children born or yet to be,
Have to push and pump and swallow.
And every monsoon moon year after year
Is losing its shimmer and is getting dimmer
As the high tides in the rain get more awry
Amchi Mumbai faces flood flurry
Traffic jams on roads and rails get bigger and bigger,
People stuck for days and nights in the downpour
Seems like there is no happy hour
Blaming them for sewage system and power blackouts
Putting tags and hashtags to the government systems
On twitter and instagram handles
City somehow limpingly boots up ,from the dialema of the downpour
And the flurry smiling and teasing, slowly dwindles
As if nature’s flurry confronts us and asks us
All that has been , has been and enough
For how long are we all going to allow
I am Mother Nature please listen
Don't delete and deplete my trees and forests
In the name of high-tech upgrades and automation
Don't erase the necklace of mushy mangrove
Alongside my once green sea shores
It is my amulet against disgrace and calamity
Please go green and plant trees
For children to play, let there be bees
Listen to the chirruping of birds
And to humming of bees
Listen to the panther spotted in city schools
And to the hissing of snake around your backyard
That they are not a specimen in the zoo to be
That this is our home and yours and theirs
So open your eyes and hearts and doors in green
To a new world for children and old
To a new world for people with paws and claws
For the planet earth belongs to all of us
For the planet earth belongs to all of us

If only I should have a son
If I should have a son ,
I would want the shining armour of
The rays of thousand splendid suns to welcome him.
Telling him in subtle tones of smiles and pun
That this world is quiet and calmer for those who stop asking and dreaming
But to become a boy with handful of pebbled dreams and eyes looking for
Thousand unanswered stripes of one big question.
How to live in a world like this?
The only way my child, I would tell him, wiping his soiled hands
He who loves the world, makes it His
Is the way to make your way in this world?
Look at people who pick others up
Look at the people who clean up the roads
Look at smiles of kids sharing food plates
Look how love makes up for all the verses of hates
Fear my friend is your enemy and with hands so small, eyes so big
You can’t have an apple for a fig
Smile your way through the world when fears come by
Smile and smile and just smile away your fears
Your little feet should give it a defeat
Get on your little feet to gasp an air of smiling feat
Om shirt satyanarayanay namah
Get out to explore the world that smells
Much like the wonderland of Alice
But forget not to find a friend like the white rabbit
Who never fears to go out of his burrow and help you out?
Do not hurry my child and holding hands with your pal
Jumping or jogging or hopping just keep looking at your way
Never lose a friend like this is what I shall say
Children your age should keep looking at the infinite sky
And reach out for the ever twinkling little stars
Never stop dreaming coz it gives hope to a world of despair
Dreams will open your eyes to infinite possibilities of the world
Where you can suddenly become a super hero and be a saviour
Where you can sail as Sindbad the sailor to explore the world of Lilliput’s
What they told the world is that men can be small and miniscule
But their deeds and hearts should be larger than life
Such soft hearts as yours my child are meant to be loved and nurtured
Such soft hands deserve to be held high in love and trust
They should not be soiled in lifting bricks or cleaning up piles
Of dirt
No child should be a kin to such a safari
These young minds like yours should wander in the wilderness of
Amazon or African forests and have fun at the night safari
Even in the plight of such world for little children like yours
Be a harbinger of hope, kindness and bravery.
Free it from child labour, abuse or slavery
Be the person everyone loves to be like
When you are anvil bear and when the hammer strike
Food, water and air is every child’s Mont go merry
But the people of world seem to be in a techno-hurry
Where some children are over fed, and others hungry
Water gets wasted in nature’s flurry
But you my child learn to share your food with needy friends
Love and care is the antidote for life’s hard bends
Such Diamonds of world can then shimmer and shine
And grow up to a green world like Edison and Einstein
And in the end my son, you will learn the moral of life
Take every day and everything peace by peace
And never let anyone move your cheese
For happiness comes as you take less, the more you give
Is the way to live and let live
Is the way to live and let live

If It Is Not Well Oiled , It Is for Sure Heat Spoiled
THE TRUTH ABOUT EDIBLE OILS- BE LIBERATED
Ever wondered that all the edible oils in the food industry ,ranging from unfiltered refined to triple filtered refined have been promising us to give low cholesterol , non diabetic , low sugar promoting and heart healthy life choices, but the reality is somewhat different .
Have you ever thought of the high temperature refining process and its harm on the taste , color and flavour including the nutrient density of the oils we consume . This treatment completely nullifies all those attributes of the edible oil .
Promising only to add an array of nutrients, artificial color and flavour to them later , after the completion of refining process , before packaging and sealing.
Also it reminds me of the saga of beauty related botox treatments to fade off wrinkles and look young . All these are methods to promote brand endurance and brand creation , rather than nurturing the consumer - retailer relations and add more value and years to their lives.
The same is the condition of refined edible oils (all varieties of saffola, fortune, geminietc) which as per the nutritionist rujuta diwekar disrupt the fatty acid bonds of these oils at high temperature causing more toxicity due to their unstable behaviour at high temperatures. As per scientific research cold pressed and filtered oils of sunflower, flaxseed ,seaseme, peanut , mustard oils are more beneficial as they have high omega 6 to omega 3 ratios and are stable at lower temperatures maintaining their nutrient value. For cold pressed oils may not be suitable for deep frying purposes , variant of filtered groundnut , mustard oils make a great choice .
So this independence day lets decide to break free from the bond of these duping oil industry brands and makefee an independent decision to follow these filtered non refined variety of hydraulic / cold pressed oils. Another good thing is that Indian housholds were not only and always built to use the expensive extravirgin varient of olive oil, rather if we remember we invariably had a childhood spent on either of unfiltered varieties of peanut/mustard or seaseme oil depending on which part of India we came from .
So this independence day , have the liberty to choose which ever non refined filtered variety of edible oil you want from the above and claim your liberty forever from all the industry created loop of diseases and lifestyle disorders. Let free , Be Liberated and Choose Life. Happy Independence Day :)
Dyslexic dimples of the dawn
There has been a long time since i was writing diaries of my own , maintaining do’s and dont’s. However now is the age of blogging via internet , and i do not have enough time to blog. I am an IT professional and so the reason .
Today i was watching the movie “Taare Zameen Par” an all time classic by Aamir Khan . Its a movie that is not an oft noticed phenomena as it speaks of very sensitive and touching topic called dyslexia .
Dyslexia is characterized by difficulty with learning to read fluently and with accurate comprehension despite normal intelligence. This includes difficulty with phonological awareness, phonological decoding, processing speed, orthographic coding, auditory short-term memory, language skills/verbal comprehension, and/or rapid naming.Developmental reading disorder (DRD) is the most common learning disability. Dyslexia is the most recognized of reading disorders, however not all reading disorders are linked to dyslexia . Children affected with dyslexia often can not follow multiple instructions and lack expressive language skills as adults .
Dyslexia as a topic is a tough ask but one that needs acceptance . It calls for parents to be more sensitive and rigid at the same time . Sensitivity should appeal to the child affected and rigidity should go in the minds of parents to become more supportive of their children. Sometimes parents are so taken by the word dyslexia that they falter at times to accept the situation .
Nothing in this fast moving world would be at ease and to accept that in sooner terms would be prudent and wise.
I have seen a case in my near neighbour hood of a girl who stopped going to school because of her poor performance . As an adult even today she has problems following multiple instructions and has a life revolving around the four walls of her house. She is dependent on others for her living and has her marriage at stake . She hails from a well to do family where most of her siblings are settled . All this happened coz probably she was not diagnosed of dyslexia and she was dyslexic .
Here is my sincere appeal to all parents to keep a check on overall cognitive behaviour of their child and help diagnose a treatable condition called dyslexia . If this is done we may help produce a confident, disciplined and independent citizen for our nation who will contribute to its prosperity and economy .
Below is a poem written by me on dyslexia , please read it .
ateet ki parchaio main jane kya kya dekha tha shabdon ke jaal pare mera lekha jokha tha matak matak jab akshar mujhse aakh micholi karte textbook , copy bharta jata mai bhi darte darte likhai kar ke copy textbook hote jate khatam lekin teacher ke ravaiye hote zyada garam
Thank You .
The Stubborn Munnibai
It was a lazy mid spring afternoon of April about 4-5years back. I was on a long vacation back at my native in Pune , after I had relocated for work and family reasons. Suddenly out of nowhere , I heard this high pitched yet croaky voice of hers , that instantly got my attention . She was trying to clean up the pile of utensils after the noon lunch in the backyard and was obviously answerable to my mothers questions. She was none other than the newly joined maid at my mothers place , Munnibai. She had tucked the pallu of her sari , across her waist to help her ease in doing the kitchen helping chores. Her face may not be as beautiful as the super working women of today’s times , yet she was an exemplary of the will that Indian women possess. It was this invincible look that she gave me , when I saw her ,that makes us stay connected. Over the years now , she is like regular family member at my mothers place , doing rounds between my aunts and mum’s residences for some or the other work , like massage , or watering plants etc , other than daily cleaning chores. She has 4 girls that our family has seen being raised , apart from hers . They help their mother at home and then do their schooling at a local corporation funded institution . The girls are doing good at academics and are more confident and can do better if supported well . Munnibai has helped my mother in major family gatherings and otherwise for other reasons. Her girls have had their first bout of Diwali sweets from my mother , and are very fond of them . My mother ensures that the girls get their food on time , when their mother is not around . Last time I met her , I helped her fill the details for special girl child scholarship below the age of 10 , that the PMO India initiated last year . All in all , in a world that is biased by the shades of cast , creed and religion , a helping maid who is able to support her family and earn on her own and tries to help the family , she is employed in , deserves an applause. Now I got know why I connected to her instantly. The human instinct is what makes us connect and stay connected . Stubbornly speaking , dialectical local slang of Kannada and Marathi , her ever smiling cheekbones and her rigid postures , that tell us about her strongly tucked will , inside of her . The same thing pushes me to ask a question . The question is that in times of rising unemployment , gender inequality and female feticide , this woman is raising her beautiful young girls , with love , sacrifice , hardwork and wanting to educate them , bonding to people across cast, creed and religion , spreading smiles across . Is there something to learn from her ? She may not be earning handsome salaries every month , but every night she sleeps in peace for sure . She may not have big plans for future , but she knows to live in the now and be happy. I have seen the bond between My mother and Munnibai grow over the years beyond their personalities and get only better. I read satisfaction beyond their smiles during their interactions . I guess this is a good way to spread Good Karma around and , the stubborn Munnibai has learnt it well . The answer is yes there is a lot to learn from her and women alike , if only we open eyes and decide to do so . Protect every girl and woman you know , it’s the basic human right for ever human to be safe and exist in harmony. Cheers to Munnibai and Team , cheers to feeling of being women !!!

Valentines Day Dazzles
The world gets painted in the verves of pink or red Roses or hearts shaped balloons infuse the air instead Some unite in the jasper of joy For some a moment of Ahoy !! Many shades of one rhythm called Love
“Valentine’s Day is a celebration of the joy called love ” What ever medium people use to express their version of joy on this day, love is one thing the world will hold on to everyday before this day and every day after. Expression of love changes with the passage of time , everyone ’s definition is different too . Someone may spend this valentine day with their family and loved ones , others will spend it at an old age home or at an NGO working on a spring Sunday to teach the underprivileged as per their capability . Others may go out on a vacation or someone may work for city civic social event to see their’s clean . Someone may do a charity event and arrange for some donations for causes like “heart health ”, or some “cataract free” or “cancer free” camps as per their ability.
All in all it’s a perfect opportunity to live out the day as per ones comfort to achieve the perfect love and peace on a personal or society front .
So let’s understand that every expression of love is different and every path of celebration of love leads to a society that is heart healthy , and built on good socio-economic pillars promoting good Moral values and free education to the children. Every day can be a Valentine’s Day if lived with the right spirit of spreading love and peace across layers of the society .
