JUST HAPPENED: Tiara by Tracy Dizon SECOND SERVING (Part 1)

It had always been my dream to dress up like a doll or princess since I was a child. Little did I know that as a young adult, I would come to realize this and that someday, I would meet and mingle with people with the same fashion dream. As an artist, I feel fulfilled to finally bring out that extreme girly aesthetic in me that has been hiding and waiting to explode in an event that welcomes and accepts girls who dress up like dolls and princesses! Ahhh, I have found my fashion tribe.  It feels great. . .and how! :) How i wish I could dress up this way in public everyday! 

Anyway, enough about me.  Let me welcome you to Tiara by Tracy Dizon Second Serving Tea Party! 

As we entered, we were given a bag full of freebies! Guess what were in the bag?! Tokyo Travel Guide pamphlets, Japan maps, Harajuku Press magazines, Canmake Cosmetics blush-on, along with a Canmake Cosmetics nail and cream lotion, and last but not the least, a Tiara by Tracy Dizon headdress!

The event had very generous sponsors! Aside from having awesome freebies, the Vanilla Cupcake Bakery had very accommodating waiters and waitresses who were so kind to serve our drinks and french fries as soon as we sat down. Our lunch was what Barney of HIMYM would call “legendary”: unlimited cupcakes in different flavors; vanilla and strawberry iced tea; carbonara and pesto pastas, and fish fillet! My tummy was just too happy that I went back to the buffet table for more servings three times! HAHA! My favorite was the carbonara pasta. It was just too good to be true!

But the thing that got me all excited the moment I got to the Tea Party was seeing the cutest girls in their personal rendition of Kawaii Fashion! I saw the extremes from Lolita to Gothic fashion. It came as a surprise to me when I found out the others were already moms! I thought they were just the same age as my friends and I. They even brought their kids who were all dressed up too which made the tea party even more fun and cute! The highlight of this event was the launching of Tiara by Tracy Dizon, a new collection of headdresses inspired by pastries, having cupcakes and doughnuts on them. All so truly adorable! It dazed me so that until now it keeps me thinking I want one so badly. LOL!

I’m proud and glad to have been a part of Miss Tracy’s first tea party that was held not too long ago. I feel very fortunate to witness the second Tea Party grow into a bigger one. I saw the friends I met in the first tea party and it felt great to see them again. There were new attendees as well and it was such a pleasure to meet them all. . .more kawaii friends! YAY! <3  This Tea party was not just any ordinary social gathering; it’s an event where you keep connected with the friends you share the same fashion culture with. Being in this tea party makes me feel at home because we share the same Kawaii love.

Fuji Instax made the event more memorable as each of us got  copies of photos to take home as a remembrance of this event. And to wonderfully end the day, we each got a free cupcake to take home that was placed in the cutest box shaped like a tea pot.  YAY! 

Thank you Miss Tracy for making a magical event like this happen! WE WANT MORE TEA PARTIES!! :D

The Little Tea Party Gets Even BIGGER: Tiara by Tracy Dizon Tea party SECOND SERVING!

Reminiscing from the first Tea Party of Miss Tracy Dizon, I just can't help but think of how exciting it was what more for the SECOND SERVING coming up this November 29! It's going to be in the cutest venue, the Vanilla Cupcake Bakery in Trinoma! For those of you who haven't heard of this event, it's a Kawaii Fashion Affair organized by Miss Tracy. She is the owner of Tiara by Tracy Dizon, it's a brand of quirky and whimsical hats, headpieces, and fascinators that she designed herself and is now hit in Tokyo! She aims to spread the Kawaii culture in Manila through this event. What is this tea party you ask, well we ooze out our love for Japanese culture especially the Harajuku fashion culture. There's a lot to love about Japan, not only fashion but also the people, the place, the food, and so we learn and exchange thoughts about it in this intimate gathering. This is one event where we can actually dress up to the extreme cute or any fashion subculture of Japan like lolita, mori, visual kei, gyaru, gyaruo, decora, fairy kei, and a lot more!

Japan Day 3 (Part 1) : Shibuya 109, The Touching Story Behind the Glam

Okay, so it’s time to explore Tokyo! Our meals were again of course buffets in different hotel restaurants in Tokyo ~ WOOO! We transferred to another hotel in Tokyo on this day, we got to experience a more Japanese feel of a room. We stayed in Tokyo Washington Ariake Hotel. After lunch, we went to SHIBUYA! And i just was so “kilig” seeing all the shops and being able to see very fashionable Japanese. The aura of the city was just FAB! Being around uniqlo, forever 21, and other shops that were 3-4 stories high made me feel so fabulous! HAHA No wonder people in Japan just love to dress up!

We went to this famous shopping center called Shibuya 109. It was a 10-STOREY building filled with Japanese brands. Just imagine that! You would see different styles from Gothic, Lolita, Decora, Conserva, Mori, Gyaru, Gyrauo, Fairy Kei, and Visual Kei. Seeing the extremes of different styles was the amazing part of visiting this shopping center. I just loved the variety of stockings they had and I couldn’t help but buy a lot of them! I took the chance of hoarding stockings since it was a lot cheaper in Japan than in the Philippines!  It was my lucky day!

After shopping, we met the owners of Shibuya 109 and learned about the real story of this shopping center. It was surprisingly very touching and you shouldn’t close this window because this story is worth it. This building was brought to life by 14-year-old Japanese girls when they wrote to the President of Shibuya 109. At that time, Japan just had a tragic tsunami disaster in Kamaishi, a coastal city in Iwate Perfecture. They wrote to ask the President to help them revive the spirits of the youth through business and fashion. It was to help the youth gain their confidence back after the tragic disaster and give them the chance to express themselves again through the art of fashion and for others participate in the business. These little girls designed shirts to be sold and part of the income be given to the victims of the tsunami disaster. It is amazing that 14-year-old girls would think of something like this and to use fashion as a tool for bringing back the happiness to the youth. Art, as I believe can emotionally fill-in that missing part of a person, it’s like the love of a person in making art can be felt by others as they look at that piece of art.  In a way, Fashion communicated the joy of the artists to create pieces and brought that joy to consumers. Fashion, as I learned, is really like an “inborn” thing for Japanese and this project proposed by the 14-year old girls really brought back the spirit of fashion in Japan and filled the hearts of the Japanese with utter joy.  :’)

An inspiration not only for artists but for everyone. A 14-year-old can do it for her Nation then so can we. :)

Japan Day 2 (part 1): EAT EAT EAT and SOCIALIZE!

WHEW! Our morning was perfect! Waking up to a beautiful view at the hotel and the oh so endless breakfast buffet! First thing to do on the itinerary was meeting our fellow delegates from around the world! I was so excited to meet new friends from other countries. Of course this trip was not only about learning Japanese culture but also learning the cultures of different countries. Since there were 290+ delegates, they had to divide us into groups: I was in  group Aichi B. After dividing us into groups, we sat in a circle to get to know our groupmates. It was fun but it wasn't easy to remember their names coz most of their names were hard to pronounce and most names were in their language so it was really new to me!

The JICE (Japan International Cooperation Center) was the coordinator. They briefed us on what to do just in case an earthquake occurs and gave us an overview of the activities lined up for the duration of our stay. 

After the introduction, briefing, and socializing. We were off to another amazing buffet feast for the night at the Serena. The food was really amazing at the Serena! Complete greens and salad dressings for the appetizers. Main Course: steak, chicken, seafood, pasta, miso soup, noodles, tempura, oysters, gyoza, dimsums, name it and they have it! Dessert was indeed a treat with the sweetness of  ice cream, crepes, cheescakes, chocolate cakes, chocolate fondue, green tea pastries, and more! They even had Vitamins available for you to pick! 

BEST PART: EVERYTHING WAS FREE!

Japan Day 1

I got accepted to this program called JENESYS 2.0 which stands for Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths. It was a learning experience to get to know the Japanese Pop-Culture and I was in the Fashion category! There were 3 categories for this program: fashion,  entertainment, and animation. They chose 6 per category so all in all there were 18 delegates from each country: Timor-Leste, New Zealand, Australia, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and the Philippines. I was very fortunate to be part of the 6 who were chosen for the fashion category and I was with my blocmate, Pamela! 

We went through an interview at the NCCA (National Commission of Culture and Arts). It was nerve-wrecking since the panel was composed of ASEAN heads and people who were in respectable positions. But after finding out that we got in, we were all excited and couldn't believe that we were going on an ALL-EXPENSE PAID trip to Japan that was supported by the Japanese and Filipino Governments! It was an honor to be part of the delegation and to represent the Philippines was really something. 

As we entered our hotel room, Pamela and I just hugged each other with excitement! Just look at what greeted us the first night!

Just showin you some pics of a playful day with my friend. Our outfits were inspired by the 60's: geometric patterns, knee/thigh-high socks, polkadots, t-strapped shoes, teased hair to add that extra puff on top, and that dull pink shade of lips.

Tea Party Hosted by Tracy Dizon!

This was a really fun experience. Tracy Dizon, owner of Tiara by Tracy Dizon, hosted an invite-only tea party for Kawaii girls. It was so generous of her to host something like this (free cupcakes and 10 rounds of purikura! LOL). I really felt blessed to be part of this intimate gathering considering that Tracy Dizon, who is now a famous designer here in the Philippines and in Tokyo, invited us herself. I could not ask for more, she gave us the opportunity that a fashion design student always dreamed of-- to be actually be in the same table as the designer that we look up to! She really inspires me especially knowing that she too was a BS Clothing Technology student from UP Diliman. She was very humble and open to share her experiences and journeys in the fashion industry. It was truly an experience that I will keep in my heart forever. It was nice to be around people who shared the same fashion interest as I did in Kawaii fashion. We all dressed up in our kawaii dresses and it felt so free to finally be with people like them. 

The ambiance of the cafe matched our outfits! It was just the perfect place, I wish my room looked like this! The place is called Vanilla Cupcakes Bakery Cafe and is located in Trinoma. It's a must-go-to cafe!

BORACAY!

Last February, my cousins and I decided to go to Boracay together. This was our first trip together as cousins without any parents. It was really fun considering that my cousins and I are really into partying and adventure. We did all we could in Boracay: eat, eat, eat, club, drink, sing with a band, swim day and night, shopping, HELMET DIVING, snorkeling,isalnd hopping, henna tattoos, hair braids, and watched the very talented and entertaining fire dancers!

Boracay is definitely for people who love to have fun.

Dress Up for the Beach!

This was actually a last minute plan. My friends and I were supposed to go to Bicol for the summer and stay in my mom's house there but then due to some problems we decided to go to Zambales instead.

We arrived in Zambales at around 4am via bus, then we took another bus going to Palauig that took about 2 hours or so, and then we took a long adventurous tricyle ride going to the beach. Upon arriving, we took a 5 minute boat ride going to the island. 

The tricycle ride was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Since we all couldn't fit in the tricycle, Lorena and Mav were partners in another tricycle. It was super bumpy and Julia and I laughed and laughed coz we kept shaking inside the tricycle. We went up and down the rocky road for almost an hour! Finally, we arrived at the destination and we took a 7 minute boat ride to the island. :)

gradWe, the sophomores. were given the opportunity by our seniors to do the opening of their graduation show. There were about ten of us who volunteered to design. Our professor informed us ONE WEEK before the gradshow so we were all in a state of panic especially because it was our finals week too! 

We were all stunned with the designs of our senior class. One of my blocmates said "oh guys, nagset na ng standards ang seniors, dapat ganyan din tayo!" Our seniors have created names in the fashion industry such as famous fashion blogger Tin Iglesias, and designer RJ Santos. A number of them have their own clothing brands as well! 

We were so happy to have done dresses in a span of one week! 

Was so fortunate to have Lee San Diego there to shoot our dresses. He has the most stunning runway shots! If you're reading this Lee San Diego, thank you so much!

Was so proud of Mav Abata too to have taken shots for our fashion show! And of course, Teena, who I always choose to model my dresses :) 

More importantly I would have not done this without the help of my mother, Frances Picart, who is a designer as well. thanks, mom! :)

Classy Everyday Fashion

Look classy despite the hot weather. Put on shorts, a sleeveless top, some accessories and a belt. Who says you can't look classy in shorts?

Lace has been becoming more popular lately: you'll see them in dresses, blazers/ jackets, tops, shorts, and even pants. Lace beautifies the garment, it is one of my favorite fabrics because it can match a variety of garments and can create contrasts with leather and geometric patterns. When did lace come to exist? It came about in the 16th Century and it was seen in Queen Elizabeth's costumes. 

I love lace for its classy look, it can almost make anything look classy. This is perfect for those who love to look feminine or girly. :)

See, even shorts can look classy. It just depends on what fabrics were used.:)

Candy Color Blocking

Color Blocking is a technique in fashion wherein solid colors are matched. These may appear in cut shapes sewn together or in graphic garments using traditional shapes to match solid colors. 

For this look I matched turquoise and bright pink. I wanted a cute look so Teena styled my hair in a side ponytail in this way as directed by Mav. The makeup was done by me, myself, and I. LOL. It was fun shooting this look because it was more playful and the poses were not that hard to do since I was just being my hyper self.  

The pleated skirt had a cute effect while I was turning, it stretched out like a fan. The accessories I used were colorful as well: the necklace was of baby blue, orange, pink, and gold; bangles were of pink, baby blue, and purple; and the ring I used was in a shape of a disco ball that had colorful gems on it! :D

Barbie Meets Kesha

From the title: the look speaks for itself. Barbie meets Kesha: This is for the Barbie and pink fanatics who love to party and have fun! Barbie's hot pink look and feminine personality is matched with Kesha's glitzy rock style and party girl personality. Match bold colors with geometric patterns to give that youthful, outgoing, and fun feel. Never be afraid to get out of the box and mix colors and patterns together. Mixing two different personalities is not bad just as long as it expresses yourself. 

And yes, the hair was intentionally teased to achieve Kesha's look as well. Thanks to Christina Stanley for the hair :) 

I love pink and I usually match my pink skirts or tops with something plain but eventually I got bored with it and this time I tried putting on something different. The top shouts "loves to have fun" and "is not afraid to be different!" 

Be fearless and  just have fun! :D
