When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee. When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
'When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.'
You might not believe that someone came back from the dead, that a Virgin got pregnant with a super Human baby, that there is a divine being 'floating in the sky' looking over us, even that a greater God of some sort created us, BUT, when you are physically and emotionally alone and feel buried alive, remember there is always something there if you need to start talking to them. Mother Nature, God, a past relative, the universe even.
If you think of this book of stories as simple life lessons just like Dr. Seuss. The stories of people who lived much simpler than us; you might just widen your perspective and learn something like 'Love is patient, love is kind, it isn’t jealous, it doesn’t brag...' or 'Honour thy father and thy mother' , 'Thou shalt not kill', even 'Thou shalt not commit adultery'. Simple and essential lessons we should all live by.
You don't need a ticket into heaven you just need to live here on earth as a good person, love and be loved, Forgive and be forgiven. God will always forgive if you ask.
Believe there is something bigger than you and you just might gain perspective.
