Whenever Haymitch insulted Effie's outfits during the main triology, it wasn't his fault, he was being possesed by Maysilee's ghost
Haven't gotten to that part yet but I know it is TRUE

I love the covey girls so much (also im only halfway through the book so no spoilers please I beg)
SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!

.
From my account sotr_sunriseonthereaping on Instagram!
.
To anyone who thinks Lenore Dove is a redhead, she's described as having a hint of red in her hair, not red hair. Rachel Zegler was amazing as Lucy Gray but she wasn't Romani and while the Covey are loosely based on them, I think this is their chance to give an unknown Romanichal actress a chance and diversify the film with people who still face severe systemic racism until this day. Many Europeans who claim to be anti racist will have the most baffling racist opinions about them.
I will describe that a bit so,
Trigger warning! I'm going to share some sad facts and experiences with other people
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
From the 1960s until 2012, Czech Romani women underwent force sterilisations. These people are untrusted, unwanted and cast out by the society, s*xualised at the same time and harassed. Everyone will give you a story of how a Romani person did something to them (as the famous comment I saw on YouTube: "They stole my bucket"). What do people expect them to do to survive when they cast them out? In some countries, they have good lives with racism and in some countries, they live in slums (Serbia). A Turkish guy I thankfully don't know anymore claimed that they shouldn't mix with the rest of us. Horrible, right? When the Romani culture is given the chance to be represented, Hollywood butchers the language and plays on stereotypes or they race-swap/whitewash characters (I'm looking at you, Scarlett Witch). It could help bringing Romani culture to others and maybe fight racism just a little
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
Casting a Romani actress could also come with problems. More racism and also the Covey aren't Romani, they're loosely based on them. This is a good YouTube short about it: https://youtube.com/shorts/6TF--HdIPHY?si=MCWRGJTsT6c0xJEm (adding it to my bio)
Suzanne Collins is my queen but she had included a review from "The Times" for TBOSAS on her website using the SLUR. I don't know if it's still there
I got my copy!!! We are sooooo back!!!!!
While rewatching season 1, I realised how amazing it was and how much potential the show had. I stopped watching in season 9 a long time ago but that's why I'm rewatching right now. The first episode was so cinematic, I'd actually pay money to see it in a cinema! Rick waking up in the hospital, the suspense, Morgan shooting walkers, Rick mercy killing the first walker he saw.... beautiful episode with a beautiful score. The score as Morgan shoots walkers and looks at pictures of his wife...i haven't recovered. The episode where Jacqui stayed with Dr. Jenner and they weren't alone when it happened....they shouldn't have fired the first showrunner
I hope the TWD fandom is also on tumblr because the Instagram algorithm is annoying me! I'm rewatching the show right now, I'm in S2 E1 and I have so much to say just about season 1 alone. I'll post that in retrospect I guess. Rewatching it made me realise that season 1 will forever be the best one
Finding out that a French singer you like is going to participate in Eurovision is amazing! I've been a fan since our French teacher made us listen to her and watch a movie with her back in 2016. This is crazy and cool!
When Elphaba sings "Nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was, is ever gonna bring me down!" or as seen in the Dutch version "Niemand, die mij pakken kan, geen tovenaar, geen vrouw, geen man" (nobody that can get me, no wizard, no woman, no man)
I realised that person who would eventually bring her down is not from Oz, nor a wizard, nor a woman nor a man. Just an American kid. Maybe this is a painfully obvious realisation but I think it's cool how much lore they put in this movie.
Elphaba was right, no one from Oz could do that!
Watching Wicked for the third time tomorrow but in DUTCH 🇳🇱 for my Dutch skills. And for the fourth time on Monday in IMAX. And hopefully a fifth time with my boyfriend in a week or two!
nobody asked for this post BUT has anybody talked about the beautiful metaphor of all the call and response choreography in the Wicked movie??? how the dancing shows the influence that characters have over each other. cuz im about to.
okay okay look at this. everybody at shiz copies Galinda during "what is this feeling"
okay standard expected yeah but THEN we get to "dancing through life" (AKA everybody's horny for Jonathan Bailey) and Fiyero has to "corrupt his fellow classmates"
WATCH them follow along! watch them LEARN the dance as his influence spreads over them. BUT not just them! because for the first time in her life, Galinda is NOT the center of attention. she's nor in command of the crowd and she JOINS IT. SHE JOINS THE CROWD.
now of course she eventually finds her way to the center, she finds a place of influence in the dance because that's who she is. When Glinda isn't in control, she joins the influence to take control of it.
but you know who isn't dancing? you know who's the one person refusing that call? of course you do you watched the movie too.
and yes. I know, those of us that are familiar with musical theater probably already saw all of this. but shhhh this is fun to talk about anyways. AND we're getting to the fun part. that's right... it's the
🧊🐟✨️ozdust ballroom✨️🐠🧊
now THIS is what's special about the call and response aspect of the choreography. THIS is the part that makes all of us cry whether or not we consciously realize it.
because whereas Glinda is able to FIND her place of control in the influence, Elphaba doesn't have that ability. she's NEVER had that. she can't join a crowd because she's different and she sticks out no matter what.
Elphaba has to do her own thing. She always has to go it alone. that's why this dance is so strange and so beautiful!! because it's so uniquely her! and THATS why the call and response motif of the choreography makes this moment so sad. because it's not just Elphie not caring what anyone thinks.
it's a desperate call for anyone, ANYONE to respond to her.
And Galinda sees her. FINALLY, a response. finally, Elphaba has broken through that wall. for the first time in her life, she's reached out a hand, and someone else took it.
and i just think that's beautiful. 🥺
i definitely have more to say about this but for now I will end it here anyways thanks for coming to my OZTEDtalk.
Yknow, the fact Fiyero has been kicked out of several schools, likes to go against doing what he's told, but also likes to posit that "nothing matters", part of me wonders if at least one time he got kicked out of school he didn't have a bit of a "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" moment
I wonder if the first time he got kicked out it wasn't for inspirating students to party or slack off, but because there was some sort of injustice he saw occurring. He took a stand against it, but didn't have enough support from others, he got reprimanded and kicked out for going against authority, and, having not made any difference he gave up on that and developed into the party-boy
Because, clearly, he does care about things. He cares about the Animals and about Elphaba, but he doesn't show it much, not in the first Act anyway. But he, like Glinda, has a decent amount of social power... Why not use it? And why is he so depressed beneath his party persona? I dunno, I think it would make a lot of sense if he has tried, in the past, to make a real difference on some sort of issue, only to be shot down and give up on that.. until Elphaba inspires him again
Currently working on an S+T version of the ending of Defying Gravity in Dutch! Would you mind supporting it when I upload it to YouTube? 🥺 I will post a snippet here, if I can! Unfortunately without the video as I fear it'll be copyrighted
Maybe controversial but I wish there were less book series' and more standalone books
Before & After photos of the grand staircase on the RMS Titanic
heartbreaking to see all the parallels of wicked to today’s politics. the demonization of activists and the abuse of power to discriminate and harm marginalized people. the silencing and targeting of protestors.
while reading the book, I came across this quote and felt ill.
“The thing is, my green girlie, it is not for a girl or a student or a citizen to assess what is wrong. This is the job of leaders, and why we exist.” - The Wizard (Wicked, 1995).
do not be fooled when those in power tell you you do not know what is right and what is good. leaders must be held accountable. your voice matters.
I just finished reading "The Giver". What's your take on the ending? Is the movie worth watching? I'd have to rent it
