Feeling less than fab so wearing a piece to brighten my mood. This cool coral and fresh water pearl ring with chunky setting has been with me for 17 years (bought in Brazil, in a nondescript, inexpensive jewelry shop). I've never tested the coral, because I'm 99.9 percent sure it's either a look-alike stone (red carnelian, bloodstone, agate) or dyed, and I like living in denial, thinking it's the real deal. Did you know that most fresh water pearls are baroque (not round or in a defined shape) because they are mantle-tissue nucleated, not bead nucleated?
