Alrighty, folks. You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t really been around here all too often, and it’s that vicious cycle of ‘not a lot of interaction? doesn’t come on often. doesn’t come on often, so has even less interaction’ and so on. And, to be frank, Papa Holmes has been boring me. There’s only so much you can do with a man like this. “A good name for a good dog,” Del says, practically buzzing with pride. He’s had his pup ( not so much a pup anymore, but calls all dogs pups; regardless or not if they actually were ) for awhile now, but he’s always eager to show him off.

“You have dogs yourself, sir?”

Lindon shook his head, stilling running his fingers over the dog’s head. “We used to, haven’t for years, though. Been thinking about getting another, though, since the kids are long gone.”

MYCROFT:

Loans were dull. You borrow money, you pay it back plus a bit extra. Mycroft understood the idea. Banks, he quickly decided, must be dull too. How very disappointing.

“Father says bankers are scum. He says I’m not allowed to let you lead me into becoming one.” And that was a mild way of putting it. What had actually been said, Mycroft was certain he’d be in trouble for months if he repeated it.

The queue began the move again, and Mycroft compliantly trotted up a few more stairs. They were nearly inside now. Standing on his tip toes for a brief moment, he could just about see through the front doors.

Of course Mycroft’s father would stray him away from becoming anything like Lindon. But Lindon didn’t want to force anything onto Mycroft. He just wanted him to do whatever it was he wanted to do. “You can be whatever you want, banker or not. I’m not going to be upset if you don’t choose to be a banker.” He still didn’t like being called scum.

Lindon glanced down at him a moment. “Want me to lift you up for a better view?”

MYCROFT:

“Does it make you feel inferior? Knowing that you cannot keep up with your own son’s mental prowess?”

“Not really. You’re all smarter than I am. I’m used to it.”

SHERLOCK:

Sherlock TRIED to switch off his observations when around his parents, but it wasn’t something you could just.. not do. It was constant. A constant stream of information bombarding him, hence why ( whilst he WAS trying ) he caught Lindon’s change in expressions and body language when speaking to him – even his tone of voice. He noticed the evident look on his face when Sherlock used DAD, and it’d had it’s intended affect. Not itndended to rattle ;; only to make sure his father knew he was telling the truth. He scratched the back of his head, taking a sip of his tea whilst his dad spoke, allowing him to finish.

❝ Yes, well… trying isn’t good enough. I will be sober again, and plan to be for the foreseeable future. ❞

That’s all Lindon wanted - his sons healthy and happy. If solving crimes or being part of the government made them happy, with minimal visits home, then so be it. But if one was harming them- selves with drugs, then that’s when Lindon wasn’t happy about it. At least Sherlock was willing to go in an upwards direction.

“Everybody was.”

“It’s just a Sherlock thing, I suppose.”

Well, Watson couldn’t say he was surprised exactly. He didn’t tell his flatmate about his family life at all, though undoubtedly Holmes could find out easily enough with a single look.

“It is very good to finally meet you, sir. If you will pardon me for saying so, your son is not exactly the easiest person to live with. I sometimes doubt he even considers me anything more than someone he shares the rent with.”

Lindon was never sure what to think of his son. He was unable to understand him on any level and it was difficult, especially since he wanted to understand him. At least Sherlock found somebody who even remotely could.

“You’re a friend, I know you are. He would act worse if you weren’t, since he’d try to get you to move out.”
