Well, John thinks, at least it’s not an exploding experiment. One would think he’d have experience with that considering he’d been living with Sherlock for a very long time, but while that’s true, it certainly doesn’t mean that he’s immune to the damage.

“Is this supposed to be edile?” He then asks, moving towards one of the tables to gently put it down onto one of the old newspapers. “And where did Sherlock go? Wasn’t he supposed to watch you?”

      “NO, silly- you don’t eat it,” could be heard called back from the kitchen. A splash of the kitchen tap running, then turned off. Another thump and wood scraping on tile. 

     Then the youngin is running back into the living room, hands still a little damp - and what he had dried off had been on his trousers, said fabric splashed and also damp. “Da’s talking to Uncle Greg- they went to Nan’s.” talking about ‘adult stuff’ which meant William wasn’t allowed to hear it. Which meant it was something super duper important. Because usually his Da didn’t make it a big deal if William was around and playing whilst the DI was around.

He Is Shape

“oh, good, you’re here! hold this.” - ( William ) @williamhamish​

        “Uh…sure?” John’s barely been able to slip out of his coat and hang it by the door when he’s handed the item, glancing down to take a closer look at it. “What exactly…is this?”

     “I’s too sticky-” Is what it is. As if that had any clear definition of an answer. And just like that he was scampering away again, into the kitchen, where some shuffling furniture could be heard scraping across the tile.

     What William had actually handed off was the remnants of an art project- most likely. A colorful paper with some patterned scissor cut edges, glue and paper scraps, a little too much glitter (of course), and ... was that a peanut butter and jam sandwich smear? Or biscuit jam? Either one, something not quite art medium. And finally, crayon and marker doodles across the whole page. There was a semi recognizable collection of letters that could be his name. Something that looked like ‘Da’ ... or was it for ‘Nan’, Mrs. Hudson downstairs? It would take some more deciphering.

       John waits with a smile until the other returns and sets up the game, before nodding. “Alright. Well, how about we play a game and you explain the rules to me as we go?” He then offers, sitting back in his chair.

     “Mhmhm,” he nodded, little pudgy fingers setting out the plastic disks. “I’m red, cause i’s like Spiderman and i’s my favourite,” he decided aloud, pointing John out to the black disks. “So, ya gotta go angle-ly, like this-” a flat palm made a diagonal motion, before William moved forwards one of his pieces in the same way.

“Oh, absolutely.” John replied with a chuckle. “Let me see.”

     The little one ran across the  room to go collect said item, making his way back with a very stiff and careful walk so he wouldn’t spill.

     “It’s kinda like Da’s chess, but not really,” he explained (as if Checkers was a whole new concept to anyone in the world).

    “Of course,” John smiled warmly, nodding towards the young boy. “What kind of game would you like to play? A board game?”

     “Erm...” face contorted into deep concentration. That was such an important question to answer. The decision a BIG one. “Oh! Wanna see my checkers?”

     “... Thanks?”

     “Ah well, you know you’re not supposed to watch too much telly.” John smiles. “Do you want me to read you a story? Or play something with you?”

     “We can play a game!” he suggested with an enthused nod.

“I’m sorry.” He offers a smile. “Traffic was awful. Is everything alright?”

     “Nan says I can’t watch no more telly,” the little one huffed a sigh. “An’ I’m bored.”

“No.” otherwise preoccupied fiddling with his     camera. He still doesn’t look up.

     “ -- What are you looking at? ”
