baby daddy!toji coming over unexpectedly to see his baby ♡
there was a soft knock at your door just after lunch.
you frowned as you adjusted your daughter on your hip, wiping your hands on your sweatpants as you wandered over. you werent expecting anybody, and certainly not him. It wasnt his weekend, and he hadnt texted to say he was coming.
the second you opened the door, there he was. broad shoulders, hands shoved into his pockets, standing there with a soft grin like he had only popped out to grab milk or something.
"...hi," you said, blinking at him.
his expression shifted immediately at that, something in his eyes easing. "hi baby." he replied.
"...missed my girl." he added, tilting his head.
you blinked, not fully understanding what he meant. "who?" you asked softly. his gaze didnt even stay on you long. It dropped past you immediately, already searching.
"the baby," he grunted, even though in his head he was definetly talking about you too.
you couldnt help the little smile that slipped onto your face. "..right," you replied.
his eyes had already wandered past you anyway, landing on the tiny girl sitting happily on your hip. the second she saw him, her whole face lit up.
her mouth fell open into the biggest gummy grin youd ever seen, little legs kicking excitedly while she squealed loud enough for the neighbours to probably hear.
"dadadadada!" she babbled, all her chubby limbs flying around. tojis entire expression softened before he could stop it, and a soft snort left his lips.
"there she is."
her face lit up in that soft, glowing way babies do when they recognize love, eyes widening, mouth opening into a delighted grin. her little legs kicked with quick excitement as she leaned forward from your hold, little body wriggling like she couldnt wait another second. when you passed her over, she went willingly, but gently too, reaching for him with both hands.
she landed into his chest in a warm, familiar tumble, her small body folding right into him, settling like she belonged there. her tiny fingers immediately grabbed his sweater, bunching it up in soft fists, and she tucked her face under his chin for a second, pressing close.
one of tojis arms slid around her back, big hand spreading wide between her shoulders, steadying her against him. the other adjusted her closer, lifting her just enough so she sat comfortably against his chest, the muscles in his arm shifted under her weight.
"easy," he muttered with a quiet huff.
she answered by patting his cheeks with her small hands, slow and affectionate, like she was greeting him properly. then she grabbed his nose.
"aye." he grunted, his face scrunched slightly under her touch. "lemme keep that."
she giggled, soft at first, then spilling into a fuller baby laugh that made her whole body bounce lightly against his chest. her feet kicked in little bursts of joy. and then toji finally looked at you.
"missed er," he said simply, like it was obvious, and then his gaze lingered a second longer than it needed to.
"and you."
It came out rougher, a little bit lower. "dont look at me like that," he murmured. It made your expression shift anyway, something shy creeping in before you could stop it.
a faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth before he turned back to the baby like he hadnt just done that to you on purpose. she was still pressed against him, calmer now, one hand resting on his sweater. he rubbed slow circles over her back, grounding and easy.
"shes growin every damn day," he murmured, like he was still half complaining. your daughter responded by patting his face again, gentle and content, toji huffed a quiet laugh through his nose.
"yeah? thats funny?" he bounced her lightly on his hip, eyes soft when he looked at her again.
"couldnt wait till friday huh?"
