Can anyone tell me what happened to the New Zealand leather jacket brand “Macalister”?
I can’t find a single shred of information on them online, the only proof I have that they existed is the ratty early ‘90s jacket I have sitting on my couch waiting to be done up, with a Macalister logo sewn into the hem
I feel like I’m going crazy, I know they were made in Christchurch but… beyond that, I’m stumped
So… I’m thinking we need to rewind to the latest election and vote again… this government is insane.
Turning against the indigenous people in this day and age? Seriously?
Deciding to turn away from the Maori version of the Treaty of Waitangi is CRAZY, and could literally get us removed from the UN (which is a ridiculous risk to take in the current global climate), AND could even technically get all non-Maori kicked out of NZ (seriously, look it up, it’s terrifying)
Dammit. I guess we have to hope that Australia’s offer to let us be part of them still stands. Probably a couple of centuries too late though.
If there's one thing that'll never happen, it's kicking non-Maori out of NZ. If Māori were given the self-autonomy we're asking for, that's not how we'd use it. And if the government succeeds in breaking the treaty, they're doing that so non-Maori can stay here without worrying about what Māori have to say.
(just to clarify, both Māori self-determination and permission for non-Maori to be on this land are given by the treaty. The government wants one without the other, which has been how the government has acted for the majority of its existence since 1840)
It's often used as a scaremongering tactic, saying that if Māori get their way, all the Pākehā will get kicked out blah blah blah, but that's not true. I know you're kinda using it backwards, but it's still a fear with no basis when there is very legitimate fears to concentrate on. Like the UN one, I know they don't do much but that still seems bad.
Thank you for explaining!
I’m sorry if the intention was lost, I just meant that Māori could very much legally remove all non-Māori from NZ without the Treaty, if it was so desired, but I definitely didn’t mean to imply that I thought that it was the intention!
Sorry, I just wanted to make a point about how insane the government is being, so thank you again for putting things straight :)

"We're collecting our kids in bags! In bags!" "We're finding body parts that we don't know who it belongs to"
A massacre after another, and the world is silent. This has to stop.
Plan:
If NZ First gets to pass their ridiculous bathroom law, then we do the following:
1. We all wear kilts and skirts, and we gather around public bathrooms
2. We paint skirts on all the bathroom symbols so they all look the same, because anyone can wear a skirt, regardless of gender
3. We use whatever damn bathrooms we want
These next three years are going to be so long and tedious.
To anyone else in NZ who is upset about the election result, I just wanted to say I feel your pain
Today I seriously spent 4 hours worrying that my best friend of 12+ years hated me for a simple example of normal friend banter, and was thinking of ways to cut off contact with everyone I know and run away to another country and/or planet
I think my brain likes to torment me 😑
Is it called anxiety when you make a comment to a friend, and they send “that’s mean” and you spend the rest of the day freaking out and wondering if it’s possible to cut ties to the universe and run away because you think you’ve ruined a friendship you’ve had for over twelve years with one single comment that wasn’t actually bad??
Only for them to send you a sausage party gif and continue the conversation from 4 hours ago and there’s nothing wrong and why would there be coz you know them and they’re your friend and they’re a sarcastic jerk anyways and you spent 4 hours legitimately trying to figure out how to physically disappear from the universe or maybe run away to Antarctica without anyone noticing and cursing your stupid brain like an idiot for wasting a good chunk of the day??
Asking for a friend, thanks :)
