I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I find this practice interesting because I’ve heard about people hiring sex workers for rather similar purposes - they don’t necessarily want sex as much as they want someone to talk to. They want someone who will listen to them without judging. This seems similar, but more like buying the company of a best friend with the potential bonus of a level of detachment so that you can tell them controversial things and not have to worry that they won’t like you anymore. That isn’t exactly what a good relationship with a therapist should look like - there shouldn’t be as much emotional investment in a therapist as there is in a best friend. If there is - time to find a new therapist. I think what some of these women need probably is someone who’s licensed to listen to them and offer insight, but I’m betting some of them don’t even realize that. They probably see a counselor as someone you go to if you’re seriously depressed, anxious, having psychotic symptoms, etc. If they feel unhappy because it seems like their career has stagnated/they’re not having much luck with dating/they’re having trouble figuring out how they’d like to redecorate, these things may not seem like ‘big enough’ issues to go to a professional for. Personally, I’m very in favor of therapy for any reason. I think it can just be great to have someone to talk to! But not everyone sees it like that (or even knows that’s an option). There can also be issues with insurance refusing to cover therapy unless the client is diagnosed with something, and some of these ‘life instructors’ may actually be cheaper than a session with a psychologist.

I understand that Dreamcatcher makes catchy music, I understand liking their aesthetic (most of the time) I know some of them might share your hobbies but like, it’s not okay that Yoobin Lee/Dami wore a nazi hat on Halloween. It’s really frustrating how everyone is just ignoring this. I understand that there is not a lot of holocaust education in South Korea, and some people may not really hear anything about it. but that doesn’t mean everyone should just shrug it off. If she really didn’t know why that was a shitty thing to wear, give her a chance to learn. Don’t just pretend it didn’t happen because she’s your fave.
